A number of words came into his head.

He was thinking of all those times he was with the family in the functions.

Jeffery knew his family was not exactly the normal kind.Full novel: 100 Faces — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

They had strict thoughts, but this was just not something he was able to think properly about.

There is so much issue here.

Too many people ignored this violence.

Does this mean the women of the family, all of them, are treated the same way?

Jeffery shook his head as he thought.

“Do you know what the irony is here, Jeffery?

I chose you.

I wanted to get married to you.

However, you declined.

I wanted to be friends with you, but you left.

I wanted help from you, and you ignored me.

It is you who abandoned me, Jeffery.” Martha’s words were scary to him.

“I asked, when did all this start, Martha?

Answer me.” He asked again, trying to hold onto the breath.

He was scared of the question he asked, but there was a need to know.

He needs to know the whole thing.

Martha was thinking of avoiding explaining much, but she was here to hurt him after all.

“It started just after a week of the wedding.

I was a discarded piece thrown away by you.

Anthony could not accept me, and rage built up in him.” She took a deep breath as she moved her face away to the other side.

“I thought his hatred was justified.

He must have had someone else he wanted to marry.

I offered to divorce a lot of times, but he did not accept; instead…”

Jeffery’s eyes went softer as he concentrated on her words.

“He was never alright with you being his brother.

He always looked up to you.”

Martha pointed back at her.

“But then again, he was jealous of you as well.

I blame you for not making things proper.

I blame you for not helping me out.

This is all your fault, Jeffery.

You should not have left me in trouble; you did this to me.”

Martha could not stop; she was lashing out at the man who silently heard what she was saying.

He was still in the middle of processing the news of his brother’s scandal only to have been washed with so much more.

Martha suddenly stopped and watched the man.

For a moment he was fighting back; he was like a defender of the family; next he was very different.

It seemed that his face went cold.

His eyes were lifeless.

He wanted to crush anything he could find, but there was not a possibility.

He was just staring at her.

Now Jeffery seems to be a child who understood what happened and wished that he did not do it.

Martha sighs and steps back; the closeness was making her uncomfortable.

“I suffered enough for this family; now I want freedom, and this is the only way.”

She raised her head and put the paper back on the table.

“It will be good for the family to accept the hearing and let me go with the alimony, or else these will come out to the media.”

She expected the man to hesitate giving her the device back.

Jeffery seemed to have turned into a mannequin.

His eyes only followed the device; he did not care anymore.

“This is the last bit of sanity I can offer to the people who were my in-laws.” Martha’s words broke the man.

He was ashamed to even say a bit of words for condolence.

“I….

I will take care of everything.

Please do not make those photos go viral.” He took a deep breath and searched for his phone.

“Yes, thank you for your cooperation, Jeffery.

I hope no other problem occurs for the future.” She was talking in a snide comment.

While her hand pocketed the phone.

“You do not have to worry about anything else.

I will call my lawyer, and we will arrange a private meeting.

You will not have any other problems in the future.

I request you to have patience for the time being.” Jeffery asks.

His eyes no longer staring at her instead he was looking at the ground.

The smoking cigarette in his hand was burning by itself.

It burnt almost half of what was there, and there was no puffing in the middle.

Jeffery watched the woman standing with an irritated face.

She was not thinking with emotion.

She was someone who wanted what was missing in her life.

“Very well, I agree to your suggestion.

Then there is nothing else to say.

I only came here to give you choices.

It is a good thing you decided to listen properly.

Unlike your family.” Martha fixed the purse on her side and started walking back.

She took a few steps and stopped close to the door.

“I wish you had chosen me, Jeffery.

You wanted to dream your own dream, but you forgot to take care of the trash that you left; you ignored the sins that were happening.

I wish you were sincere in this.

I wish you had chosen me.” Her voices were soft and a hint of crack in the moment, making Jeffery jerk his face up.

Jeffery felt the heat from the cigarette in his hands start to burn in the corner of his fingers.

He was thinking hard and almost ignored the leaving of Martha.

The woman was sad but this is beyond the thoughts.

Jeffery was thinking of him and left the family; if he did not leave, then would the situation change?

The guilt was killing him from the inside.

He turned the chair around and sat down.

The cigarette was left on the ashtray as his hands came over to hide his face from the rest of the view.

Martha left the room in anger.

She wanted to give Jeffery mental torture as the person whose choice made it tough for her.

But for a moment there, she was thinking again.

What is going on in there?

She entered the office with the intention of vengeance and came out with a feeling of hurt.

This is not what it was supposed to be.

Why is this like this?

She gritted her teeth and thought in anger.

‘Why do I have to think like this?

Why is it making me feel this bad?’ Her mind was in the middle of thoughts again.

As her steps reached forward, she crossed the hallway to the lift.

Her heels are making the sound in the silent hallway as most of the people have left with only the guards and one woman at the information desk.

She raised her eyes up as Martha came out of the lift.

She recognized the face when Martha entered the office and quickly informed Jeffery even though she asked not to.

Her eyes followed the confident woman as she left the office.

There was no escort with her.

The daughter-in-law of the famous family was not escorted into the office where Mr.

Jeffery was staying.

This was a reason to have curious eyes, but there was nothing to be done right now.

She thought of the scandals that would come out if she revealed them to the reporters, but the next moment she decided to stop.

The scandal surrounding Mr.

Anthony was enough; this family does not require any more scandals.

The guard at the front door bowed as the woman left the building.

She only had the etiquette to nod back a bit before leaving.

Her hand was clutching the purse on her side.

There was a frown on her face.

She was desperate to leave the premises this instant.

The white car blinked its light to unlock.

It was parked in an almost empty lot.

There were only a few cars parked.

Martha walked towards her car without a break.

She stopped only after reaching the door.

The feeling of dread in her mind.

She breathed out the air that was in for the time being.

Her lungs were desperate to breathe in air and fill it up.

Her shoulders sagged as she hugged closer to the door.

“What are you doing?

You should be strong right now.

Not someone who should be weak just like that.” Martha murmured and forced herself to stand straight.

She opened the door and quickly sat inside the car.

“I am not a weakling.” She repeated and tried to calm down.

Her left hand threw the purse on the passenger seat beside her and clutched on the wheel.

Martha felt her body shake.

Her hands gripped on the rubbery steering before her.

“I am almost free; let’s be strong for a while more.” Her words were shaky as the words came out one after another.
