Amon stood in front of the enormous building that dominated the street.
A massive golden sign was mounted above the entrance.
[ADVENTURE BUREAU]
The words were large enough to be seen from several streets away.
Amon looked up at the building before taking a deep breath.
’So this is where adventurers register.’
He had taken a day off from Walton Academy specifically for this.
Getting an Adventure License wasn’t something that could be completed in a few minutes, and Amon didn’t want to waste time after school.
’Better to get it done today.’
He adjusted the strap of his bag and walked through the enormous entrance.
The interior of the Adventure Bureau was considerably larger than Amon had expected.
Several reception counters were arranged across the enormous hall, while dozens of awakened individuals moved around the building.
Some were wearing heavy armor, while others carried swords, bows, staffs, or various magical weapons.
There were also several large crystal screens displaying information about available dungeon expeditions.
Amon glanced around with interest.
’This place is basically a workplace for adventurers.’
The atmosphere was unsurprisingly busy.
People were registering for dungeon expeditions, selling monster materials, accepting missions, and discussing recently discovered dungeons.
Amon eventually noticed a large sign pointing toward a separate counter.
[NEW ADVENTURER REGISTRATION]
’That’s probably me.’
He walked toward the designated area.
A glass wall separated the receptionist from the applicants.
A young woman was sitting behind the counter while organizing several documents.
She looked up when Amon approached.
A professional smile immediately appeared on her face. "Good morning. Are you here to register as an adventurer?"
Amon nodded. "Yes."
The woman reached toward a crystal tablet. "Then I’ll need a valid form of identification."
She paused before looking at him. "Have you awakened recently?"
Amon reached into his bag and pulled out his Walton Academy student identification card. "Yes."
He placed it against the scanner, and the crystal tablet immediately lit up.
The receptionist glanced at the information before nodding.
"Walton Academy." She looked at him again.
"The academy acts as a guarantor for its students, so your identification is sufficient."
Amon nodded as he already knew that. ’That’s convenient.’
The receptionist began entering his information into the system.
"Before we can issue your Adventure License, you’ll need to complete three examinations."
She raised her fingers one by one. "A mental examination, a Spirit examination, and finally, a physical and potential assessment."
Amon listened quietly, taking a mental note of all three.
’...Well, I thought I would only know my potential on the day of the assessment.’
It was a good thing to know it beforehand, and Amon was really curious to find out about it as well.
The receptionist looked him up and down before giving him a slightly curious expression.
"Judging from your build, I’m assuming you’re registering as a Mage?"
Amon nodded his head and replied, "That’s the best for me."
She typed something into the tablet. "Then which affinity would you like to register?"
"Ice."
The woman paused briefly before writing it down.
"Ice affinity."
She checked the information one final time before handing Amon a small registration number. "Please wait in the designated area. The examinations may take some time."
Amon looked toward the large waiting area.
"How long?"
"Probably around an hour."
Amon sighed.
’So much for getting this done quickly.’
Still, there was nothing he could do, so he found an empty seat and sat down.
Nearly an hour later, Amon finally heard his registration number being called.
"Applicant 728. Please proceed to Examination Room One."
Amon stood up and followed the directions posted beside the rooms.
The first room looked surprisingly ordinary for such a fancy place.
There was a desk, two chairs, and several pieces of equipment that Amon couldn’t immediately identify.
A woman sitting behind the desk gestured toward the chair.
"Please sit."
Amon sat down as the woman picked up a crystal tablet.
"My name is Evelyn. I’ll be conducting your psychological examination."
Amon raised an eyebrow.
"Psychological examination?"
"Yes."
She smiled professionally.
"I’ll ask you several questions regarding your emotional state, your reactions to stressful situations, and your general mental condition."
Amon frowned slightly.
"Why does the Adventure Bureau care about that?"
Evelyn’s expression became slightly more serious.
"Because adventurers regularly encounter situations that can severely affect the mind."
She placed the tablet on the desk.
"Some dungeons contain monsters capable of influencing emotions, memories, or perception."
She looked directly at him, trying to make sure he understood the consequences of being a dungeon crawler.
"We need to make sure the people we register aren’t suffering from serious mental instability before allowing them to enter dangerous environments."
Amon nodded slowly. ’That actually makes sense.’
The examination continued.
She asked him about his relationships, his reactions to danger, how he handled failure, and several other psychological questions.
Some questions were surprisingly strange, while others were simple enough that Amon didn’t have to think much before answering.
After nearly twenty minutes, Evelyn finally put down the tablet.
"That’s enough." She smiled. "You passed."
Amon stood up. "That’s good."
Evelyn nodded before pointing toward the next room.
"Your Spirit examination is next."
The second examination room was considerably smaller.
Amon noticed a large milky-white stone positioned in the center of the room.
It was connected to a crystal screen beside it.
A female examiner stood next to the stone. "Place your hand here."
Amon walked toward the stone and placed his palm against its smooth surface.
The moment he did, the stone began glowing.
A faint white light spread across its surface before flowing toward the crystal screen.
Numbers slowly appeared, and the examiner glanced at the screen.
Her expression immediately changed.
"...Huh?"
Amon noticed the change on her face."What’s wrong?"
The woman stared at the result for several seconds before looking back at him.
"Your Spirit is unusually high."
He remembered that he had already integrated the Soul Tempering Crystal.
His Spirit had originally been only 9.
After absorbing the crystal, his Spirit had jumped to 19 in a short period of time.
The examiner looked at the result again.
"For someone who awakened only recently, this is significantly above the normal range."
Amon smiled awkwardly. "Is that good?"
"Very." The woman nodded. "High Spirit is extremely valuable for adventurers."
Amon quietly looked at the stone.
’Right, high Spirit means they’re much more capable of fighting against dungeon corruption.’
The examiner recorded the result before gesturing toward the door.
"You can proceed to the final examination."
Amon entered the final room, which, unlike the previous two rooms, was considerably larger.
Several crystal devices surrounded a massive stone positioned in the center.
Amon immediately recognized it. ’That’s an Affinity and Potential Stone.’
He had seen similar stones at Walton Academy during last year’s examination.
The stone was used to measure a person’s potential after awakening.
Amon slowly approached it, and the examiner standing beside the stone gave him a few instructions.
"Place your hand on the surface and circulate your mana."
Amon nodded as he stood in front of the stone and slowly raised his hand.
His fingers touched the cold surface.
The moment his palm made contact, the massive stone began to glow.
Amon felt mana being pulled from his body.
The crystal devices surrounding the stone activated one after another.
Numbers began appearing across the screen.
Amon stared at them, eagerly waiting for the information he wanted to know.
...His potential.
’How high is it?’
The stone suddenly flashed.
BEEP.
A new set of numbers appeared on the crystal screen with a large letter in the middle.
