Chapter 19: Scamming Old People

10,000x Rebate System: Every Return Makes Me Stronger

Amon arrived at a completely different part of the city after riding the bus for nearly forty minutes.

The upper lane area of Evergreen Town.

The moment he stepped off, he immediately noticed how different the area looked compared to the crowded districts around Walton Academy.

The streets were clean and quiet, with large stone buildings lining both sides of the road.

Many of the buildings had been constructed decades ago, but they had been maintained so well that they gave the entire district a vintage and elegant appearance.

’So this is where the rich people live.’

Amon looked around with interest. Unlike the busy commercial districts, the place didn’t have many ordinary shops.

Most of the businesses were expensive restaurants, jewelry stores, magical artifact shops, and antique stores.

It was one of the wealthiest areas in Langton.

Amon eventually spotted a large wooden sign hanging above an old-fashioned building.

[Evergreen Antiquities]

’That’s probably the place.’

He pushed open the heavy wooden door and stepped inside.

The interior of the antique shop was considerably larger than Amon had expected.

Wooden shelves covered almost every wall, with glass cabinets displaying old weapons, jewelry, paintings, statues, books, and strange objects whose purposes were difficult to determine.

Several wealthy-looking customers were walking around the shop.

Some were accompanied by servants, while others were discussing the history and value of different antiques with the employees.

A faint smell of old wood and dust filled the air.

Amon’s eyes immediately lit up. ’Perfect.’

He activated his [Merchant’s Divine Insight].

Information began appearing beside the various objects.

[Actual Value: 17 Gold Coins.]

[Seller’s Price: 120 Gold Coins.]

’Overpriced.’

He moved toward another shelf.

[Actual Value: 80 Silver Coins.]

[Seller’s Price: 20 Gold Coins.]

’Trash.’

Amon continued walking through the shop.

He wasn’t particularly interested in buying ordinary antiques.

He wanted something that had been overlooked by everyone else.

After several minutes of searching, his eyes suddenly stopped.

An old knife was sitting inside a glass display near the side of the shop.

Unlike the other weapons, it looked completely ordinary.

The blade was dark and slightly rusty, while the wooden handle was covered with several cracks.

Amon activated his [Merchant’s Divine Insight].

The information immediately appeared.

[Nameless Ancient Knife]

Seller’s Price: 10 Gold Coins

Actual Value: 100,000 Gold Coins

Grade: Unknown

Condition: Sealed

Additional Information: Contains an extremely powerful ability that cannot be activated through conventional methods.

Bonus: It can unlock an ancient seal.

Amon’s eyes widened. ’Hundred thousand gold coins!’

That was ten thousand times more than the asking price.

He didn’t even hesitate, his body moving on instinct.

Amon immediately called one of the nearby employees.

"Excuse me."

The young employee approached him with a professional smile.

"Yes, sir?"

"I’d like to purchase that knife."

He pointed toward the display case.

The employee glanced at the knife before nodding.

"Certainly. I’ll have someone bring it out for you."

The employee called another worker, who unlocked the display case and carefully removed the ancient knife.

Amon waited patiently. However, before the employee could hand it to him, an old voice suddenly came from behind.

"How much is that knife?"

Amon turned around.

An elderly man was standing several steps away, looking directly at the weapon.

He was wearing an expensive dark coat with several subtle golden decorations.

His white hair was neatly combed backward, while his face was filled with the wrinkles of someone who had lived a long life.

Despite his age, his posture remained straight and his eyes were surprisingly sharp.

The employee immediately became respectful. "Sir, this knife is priced at ten gold coins."

The old man’s eyes narrowed slightly as he examined it.

"I’ll take it."

Amon’s expression immediately changed.

’Of course.’

He had seen this kind of situation before.

If he tried to compete with the old man using money, there was a good chance he would lose.

After all, someone willing to casually spend ten gold coins on an old knife probably wasn’t worried about a few extra coins.

If he raised the price, it would only hurt the old man’s ego.

Amon’s eyes quickly moved across the old man’s body, and an idea appeared in his mind.

He immediately changed tactics.

Amon looked at the old man with a serious expression. "Young man."

The old man’s eyebrows twitched. "Young man?"

Amon nodded solemnly like an old man talking to the younger generation.

"You shouldn’t buy this." Amon pointed toward the knife. "That is a cursed item."

The old man’s expression immediately became suspicious. "Cursed?"

Amon nodded confidently. "Yes."

He looked at the old man as though he were dealing with an ignorant child. "Kids these days really don’t have any respect for their elders."

The old man’s expression became strange. "What?"

"I may look much younger than you, but I am much older." Amon sighed dramatically. "You should listen to your elders once in a while."

The old man’s eyes narrowed. The way Amon talked made him look like an ancient being.

There was something strange about this young man, and the old man could tell. "What exactly are you implying?"

Amon stared at him for several seconds before making a wild guess. "You have a serious heart condition."

The old man’s expression instantly froze.

Amon continued before he could respond. "It has already started affecting your circulation, hasn’t it?"

The old man’s eyes widened. "How do you know that?"

Amon remained completely expressionless.

Inside, however, he was screaming.

’Holy shit, I guessed correctly.’

His [Merchant’s Divine Insight] hadn’t actually told him anything about the man’s health.

Amon had simply noticed the slightly irregular rhythm of the man’s breathing and made a gamble.

Now that the guess had worked, he wasn’t going to waste the opportunity.

"There is more."

The old man’s face became increasingly serious.

Amon slowly looked toward him. "I also know about your granddaughter."

The old man’s pupils contracted. "What do you know about her?"

Amon remained silent for a moment before speaking in an extremely confident tone.

"Her condition isn’t normal."

The old man’s expression completely changed.

"How do you know about that?"

Amon folded his arms.

"I know many things." He pointed toward the ancient knife. "Just like I know that this thing is cursed."

The old man’s gaze immediately moved toward the knife.

Fear slowly appeared in his eyes. He took a step backward. "You can have it."

Amon nodded as though this was exactly what he had expected. "Good."

The old man looked at him with newfound respect.

"Then..." Amon paused before adding another layer to his lie. "I’ll visit you sometime."

The old man immediately looked surprised.

"I’ll take a look at your family’s condition." Amon smiled calmly. "If possible, I may even be able to help."

The elderly man’s expression changed completely.

He looked at Amon as though he had just discovered a hidden master.

"Then I’ll be waiting." The old man immediately bowed his head.

Amon’s eyes widened slightly. ’This is going way too far.’

He quickly turned toward the employee.

"I’ll take the knife."

The employee was still standing there in confusion.

"Of course, sir."

Amon immediately placed ten gold coins on the counter.

The employee counted the money before handing him the ancient knife.

Amon grabbed it and immediately walked toward the exit.

He didn’t want to stay long enough for the old man to start asking difficult questions.

"Wait!"

The old man suddenly called after him.

Amon’s footsteps immediately became faster.

"I’ll visit you!" He waved his hand without turning around. "Take care of yourself!"

He then practically ran out of the shop.

The moment Amon disappeared through the door, silence filled the antique shop.

The shop owner slowly stood up from his chair.

His face had become pale.

He looked at the elderly man standing in the middle of the store.

"Sir..."

His voice trembled slightly.

The old man was none other than the father of the Duke of Edinburgh. A man whose influence stretched throughout the entire kingdom.

The shop owner had watched the entire exchange from beginning to end.

He had also heard every ridiculous claim Amon had made, yet the old man had believed every word.

The shop owner swallowed nervously.

’That kid just scammed the Duke’s father...’

He looked toward the door through which Amon had escaped.

’And somehow convinced him that he’s a hidden master.’

Meanwhile, several streets away, Amon was still running.

The ancient knife was tightly held against his chest.

A huge grin had spread across his face.

’Ten gold coins for a hundred-thousand-gold treasure.’

Amon couldn’t stop himself from laughing.

"Merchant’s Divine Insight is fucking amazing."

He slowed down after making sure nobody was following him.

Only then did he look at the ancient knife again.

His smile gradually disappeared.

A new set of information appeared when he touched the knife’s handle.

[The seal will react to a compatible bloodline.]

Amon’s expression turned blank. ’Ah, fuck my life.’
