The next afternoon, Damon stepped through Velour’s glass doors expecting the usual calm.

Instead, the air was thick with tension.

Staff moved carefully, eyes down, folding garments in silence.Full novel: 100x Return System: I’m a Lustful Villain — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Even the soft music felt buried.

Near the counter, Eleanor stood with her back to the entrance.

Her posture was straight, but her shoulders were locked tight.

Her fingers pressed hard against the marble, and she stared at a tablet with barely contained irritation.

Before he could cross the room, a sharp engine roar rumbled outside.

A sleek, midnight-black sedan pulled up to the curb.

The driver’s door swung open, and a man stepped into the afternoon light.

Tailored Italian suit.

Silver timepiece glinting at his wrist.

He pushed through the front door like he still owned the place.

“You’re behind on your floor reports, Eleanor,” he said smoothly.

His voice was deep, laced with mockery.

She turned slowly.

Her face became an impenetrable mask of cold.

“You don’t own this store anymore, Julian.

You have no right to my reports.

And you certainly have no business walking in here without an appointment.”

He smiled faintly.

He didn’t lose his temper.

His arrogance came from years of holding leverage – capital, networks, legal influence.

“A formality,” he said softly, strolling toward the center racks.

His fingers brushed a silk blouse.

Then his gaze drifted to the private lounge.

His eyes narrowed.

The restructuring hadn’t escaped him.

No price tags.

Secluded displays.

Ambient lighting.

“I came to see how long my former capital can keep this little vanity project afloat.” He glanced back at her.

“Though I must admit, you’ve made adjustments.

A bit ambitious for a shop running on borrowed time.”

“My business is fine.” Her voice cut like a blade.

“Get out.”

He didn’t move.

His gaze shifted past her, landing on Damon.

Damon stood near the entrance, leaning against a display pillar, hands in his pockets.

He watched without a word.

Detached.

Precise.

Julian’s eyes swept over him.

Young.

Simple clothes.

No deference whatsoever.

Amusement flickered across his face.

“And who’s this?” He turned back to Eleanor with a faint smirk.

“Don’t tell me you’ve hired a young consultant to keep the boutique relevant.

Or is he just a distraction from the divorce liabilities?”

Her hands clenched at her sides.

“He’s assisting with operational strategy.

Not that it’s any of your concern.”

Julian laughed softly.

No humor in it.

He faced Damon directly, looking down at him.

“Strategy?” His voice echoed.

“Son, let me give you some advice.

High-end fashion isn’t about moving mannequins or changing lights.

It’s supply chains.

Exclusive distributor contracts.

Institutional capital.

None of which you or Eleanor currently possess.”

*Interesting.* Damon watched him without responding.

Julian hadn’t come to humiliate Eleanor.

He’d noticed the changes.

The increased interest.

The new displays.

Movement in the luxury section.

He wanted to know who’d done it.

And whether Eleanor had found someone capable.

Damon almost smiled.

*So that’s what this is.*

Julian wasn’t protecting territory.

He was checking whether she’d become dangerous.

He turned back to Eleanor and stepped closer.

His voice dropped, the pleasant veneer gone, replaced by quiet threat.

“I spoke with Vance at SilkCraft this morning,” he murmured, adjusting his cuffs.

“He mentioned you were inquiring about autumn allocations.

I reminded him who holds primary distribution rights in the North District.”

A pause.

“It would be a shame if your new strategy ran out of premium inventory before the season starts.

Remember who built this industry in Vesper, Eleanor.”

His gaze flicked to Damon.

“Enjoy playing businessman while you can.”

A faint smile.

“People like you usually learn the cost of interfering with the wrong person.”

Then he walked out.

The moment he was gone, Eleanor let out a shuddering breath.

She turned from the door and leaned heavily on the marble counter, forehead resting against her hand.

Her composure cracked, revealing the weight she’d been carrying alone.

Damon walked over.

Stopped a few feet away.

“Julian,” he said simply.

She lifted her head.

Anger and frustration flashed in her eyes.

“Julian Sterling.

My ex-husband.

He owns Sterling Apparel Group – the largest luxury distributor in the state.

When we divorced, he tried to force me to surrender Velour.

I fought to keep it.

He’s been choking my suppliers ever since.”

A bitter laugh escaped her.

“He saw our numbers improve this week.

He realized I was stabilizing.

So now he’s cutting my supply lines before I can launch the online expansion.”

Damon listened.

His expression gave nothing away.

He felt no rage on her behalf.

No urge to play hero.

Instead, something dark and thrilling ignited in his demonic consciousness.

A powerful, wealthy antagonist.

Capital.

Networks.

Arrogance.

Julian Sterling wasn’t an obstacle.

He was an asset waiting to be stripped.

A catalyst that would push Eleanor straight into Damon’s control.

A fountain of wealth ready to be funneled through his system.

“How much damage can he actually do?” he asked.

She looked at him, surprised by his calm.

“If he pressures SilkCraft to hold my autumn inventory, I won’t have stock for the digital storefront.

Within two months, cash flow stalls.

I won’t cover the lease.

He wants to starve me out and buy this shop for pennies.”

Her tablet vibrated against the counter.

She glanced down.

Her expression changed.

Damon noticed.

“What happened?”

She hesitated, then turned the screen toward him.

*SilkCraft Logistics — Allocation Notice*

*Your requested autumn allocation has been placed on indefinite review.*

Her fingers tightened around the tablet.

“He already did it.”

Damon looked at the message for several seconds.

Then he smiled.

Not reassuringly.

Almost amused.

“Good.”

She stared at him.

“Good?

My supplier just froze my inventory.”

He looked at the tablet again.

“Exactly.”

She frowned.

“What’s wrong with you?”

“Nothing.” He handed it back.

“You’ve spent days worrying about how to expand.

Julian just showed us exactly where his influence begins.”

Her expression shifted.

He turned toward the window, watching traffic.

“Don’t call him.

Don’t argue.

Don’t threaten anyone.”

“What are you planning?”

He smiled.

“Nothing yet.”

That clearly irritated her.

“Then why are you smiling?”

“Because he made the first move.” He slipped his hands into his pockets.

“People reveal much more when they think they’re winning.”

She stared at him.

“And what exactly am I supposed to do?”

“Nothing.” He glanced back.

“Keep running Velour.”

“And you?”

His smile widened.

“I’ll look around.”

She narrowed her eyes.

“Look around for what?”

He walked toward the exit.

“Everything he doesn’t want me to find.”

He pushed open the glass door.

Behind him, Eleanor stayed silent.

For the first time, she wasn’t looking at him like a strange young man who happened to understand business.

She was wondering what kind of person could look at Julian Sterling and see opportunity instead of danger.

Outside, Damon glanced toward the road where the car had disappeared.

His smile returned.

The game had finally become interesting.
