Hearing her husband’s voice, Wang Huijuan quickly started preparing the meal.

Chu Ziheng noticed it too, but it had nothing to do with him. He wasn’t one to meddle in other people’s business.

Soon, all the educated youths returned, waiting for the meal, so no one mentioned it again.Full novel: 1970s: The Charming Pregnant Beauty Tames the Bigshot — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

With so many people, if they didn’t start cooking quickly, there wouldn’t be enough time before afternoon work.

Gu Yunsheng watched Wang Huijuan’s every move from the gate.

She couldn’t help but think how perceptive she was and realized even more that it would be best to have a separate kitchen or even a separate house.

Gu Yunsheng actually preferred building a separate courtyard, ideally farther from the village.

She was pregnant now, and she was willing to spend extra money. She didn’t want to risk her health.

She thought about it and decided to talk to Huo Chengxuan that evening.

Just as she was thinking about how to bring it up, the door opened.

The moment they entered, the smell of meat reached them.

“Dad, Mom, you’re back. The meal is ready. Wash your hands and eat.”

Seeing everyone, Gu Yunsheng smiled as she spoke.

Huo Wan initially stepped into the yard, seeing the door properly closed, and felt frustrated.

She already suspected Gu Yunsheng was up to something, and as expected, it was revealed just after arriving in the countryside.

Maybe she had already run off.

Pushing the door open, she saw Gu Yunsheng sitting inside with the meal already prepared.

The aroma made her stomach growl even more.

Luckily, she hadn’t said anything foolish. Thinking of her eldest brother’s past torment, she let out a sigh of relief.

Huo Chengxuan came in and quickly closed the door.

“Shengsheng, thank you for your hard work.”

“Mom, that’s not true. You’ve worked hard too! I went to the commune early this morning. Autumn harvest is tiring; the meals can’t be poor.”

Huo’s mother quickly pulled Gu Yunsheng to sit and examined her carefully before speaking.

“Shengsheng, the commune is so far. Are you okay?”

Gu Yunsheng looked at her mother-in-law’s anxious face.

“Mom, don’t worry. I’m fine.”

Wow, this family couldn’t be any kinder.

“Come on, let’s eat.”

Gu Yunsheng urged everyone to start.

Everyone had eaten her cooking before, but today’s meal tasted even better than usual.

Perhaps it was because they were exhausted.

Even the simple egg soup was delicious.

After eating, their tired bodies felt considerably lighter.

Gu Yunsheng had prepared more food, knowing everyone’s appetite, especially after a morning of labor.

Even so, everything was finished.

The buns dipped in the braised pork sauce were exceptionally good.

Huo Wan squinted in satisfaction, glad she hadn’t said anything negative about Gu Yunsheng.

Though she still didn’t fully believe Gu Yunsheng had changed, it didn’t stop her from enjoying good food.

Huo’s mother and Huo Zhenguo looked increasingly pleased with their daughter-in-law.

They hadn’t married the wrong person. They would treat her like their own daughter.

Once the meal was over, Huo Chengxuan got up to wash the dishes.

Gu Yunsheng silently gave him a high score. Good, he didn’t treat her like a servant.

Cooking was something she enjoyed, and the Huo family treated her well, but she didn’t want to become a housemaid.

Household matters couldn’t all fall on her.

Huo’s father and mother were elders and already tired. It wouldn’t be appropriate to leave chores to them.

That left only Huo Wan and Huo Chengxuan.

Having the man take the initiative saved her the trouble of speaking.

Huo Chengxuan worked efficiently and quickly washed the dishes before entering the room.

“Huo Chengxuan, what time do you start work this afternoon? Is there anything you want to eat tonight? I’ll cook for you.”

Seeing him enter, Gu Yunsheng asked a string of questions.

Huo Chengxuan paused briefly, then sat beside her.

“Two o’clock. I’m not picky.”

Gu Yunsheng looked up at him, instinctively leaning closer, her bright eyes meeting his. Her hand already held his.

“Huo Chengxuan, do you really like the meals I make?”

Huo Chengxuan: “……”

What a completely unrelated question.

“Huo Chengxuan, can we pay to build a courtyard ourselves?”

He just stared at her, a trace of confusion in his eyes, silent.

Seeing him dazed, she asked, “What’s wrong? It’s not possible?”

Huo Chengxuan relaxed, his gaze softening.

“Not now. We can ask about it after the autumn harvest.”

He didn’t ask why, but he understood that with so many people at the Educated Youth Point, cooking was inconvenient.

Gu Yunsheng was very particular about food.

Being stared at by such a handsome man, she felt she could let everything else go.

No, that wasn’t acceptable.

Just as she was about to speak, he interrupted her.

“In the evening, I’ll check the small room in the house to see if it can be converted into a kitchen.”

“Hmm?”

Gu Yunsheng looked at him, wondering if he had some special ability to read her mind.

“Wouldn’t it be troublesome? I can’t help with the field work, and also…”

“No.”

Before she could finish, Huo Chengxuan interrupted.

Though their marriage had been her plan, he had agreed willingly.

Combined with her acting cute after marriage, he couldn’t resist.

Though there had been previous chaos, when he learned she was pregnant, he found it understandable.

Now, with her following him to the countryside and still cooking while pregnant, he felt concerned for her.

He couldn’t give her much else right now, but he could at least ensure she didn’t have to sneak around to eat.

He knew she loved her meals.

“You don’t need to worry about the fields. Being able to cook at home is already enough. Even if you don’t cook, no one will say anything.”

Huo Chengxuan looked at her and said.

Gu Yunsheng wanted to tell from his eyes whether he was sincere or just being polite.

Seeing his serious expression moved her slightly.

Though he might have been speaking as if to the original owner, it didn’t matter.

The original was gone; she just needed to know he was speaking to her now.

There was no reason to overthink and imagine the man impure.

“Hmm, but I can’t wake up early in the morning~~”

Gu Yunsheng pouted, holding his arm.

Huo Chengxuan squeezed her hand and said,

“You don’t need to wake up in the morning. I know what Mom makes. I’ll get up early and prepare it for you.”

Her body wasn’t suited for heavy labor now, and cooking was tiring enough.

Helping her this way was the only thing he could do for now.
