Thinking about what happened to Wan’er in the novel after she was sent to the countryside, when she was violated by a hooligan and ultimately chose to end her life out of humiliation, Gu Yunsheng could not help but feel a deep sense of regret.

But things are different now.

She would not let Wan’er suffer such a fate.Full novel: 1970s: The Charming Pregnant Beauty Tames the Bigshot — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Can you manage? Do you want me to bring the food up here?”

Huo Chengxuan shifted his gaze away from her enchanting face and spoke calmly.

“I can manage.”

“Mm.”

Gu Yunsheng tried to get up, but immediately sucked in a breath of cold air and frowned slightly.

That damn man really had no idea how to be gentle with a woman.

Gu Yunsheng stretched out both arms in a gesture asking to be held and looked at him pitifully.

“Husband, can you carry me downstairs?”

“…”

Huo Chengxuan looked at her completely natural expression as she asked to be carried. His brows furrowed slightly, but he still picked her up.

By the time Huo Chengxuan carried Gu Yunsheng out of the room, Huo’s mother and Wan’er were already gone.

Gu Yunsheng wrapped her arms around Huo Chengxuan’s neck and glanced around the surroundings.

No wonder the original owner had tried so hard to climb into Huo Chengxuan’s bed. In the 1970s, being able to live in such a small Western-style villa meant the family was extremely wealthy.

Unfortunately, this house would soon no longer belong to the Huo Family.

After going downstairs, they arrived at the living room.

When Gu Yunsheng saw the members of the Huo Family sitting around the round dining table, her face immediately turned red.

“Um… maybe you should put me down. I can walk by myself.”

“Don’t move.”

Wan’er saw Gu Yunsheng in her brother’s arms and instantly became furious.

“Gu Yunsheng, that’s enough! If you want a divorce then get one. Why are you tormenting my brother? He’s still injured!”

Only then did Gu Yunsheng remember that Huo Chengxuan was injured. Feeling embarrassed, she tugged lightly on his sleeve.

Huo Chengxuan tightened his arms slightly. He glanced at Wan’er before steadily carrying Gu Yunsheng to the dining table and gently placing her on a chair.

“Brother, why are you treating her so well? Are your injuries even healed yet?”

Wan’er had absolutely no good feelings toward Gu Yunsheng, who had used her to enter the Huo Family.

She had used Wan’er to get into the Huo Family and shamelessly climbed into her brother’s bed. After doing such a thing, she still did not cherish the marriage.

Now that her brother was injured and something had happened to the family, she could not wait to divorce and cut ties with them.

She was simply a complete gold-digger who despised the poor and chased wealth.

Huo’s mother also looked at Gu Yunsheng with a complicated expression. However, maintaining her usual composure, she still reprimanded gently.

“Wan’er, that’s your sister-in-law. How can you speak so harshly?”

She had indeed resented Gu Yunsheng before, but after overhearing her earlier saying she would not divorce and might even be pregnant, she could understand a little.

Life in the countryside was extremely hard. If she was truly pregnant, then even if she divorced, it would be acceptable. As long as she gave birth to the child, the Huo Family would be deeply grateful.

Thinking of this, her expression softened considerably. She stood up, scooped a bowl of porridge, and placed it in front of Gu Yunsheng.

“Eat first.”

Gu Yunsheng touched the bowl and found it pleasantly warm. She sweetly said, “Thank you, Mom.”

After saying that, she picked up the bowl and began drinking the porridge in big mouthfuls.

Only after finishing the bowl did Gu Yunsheng feel her stomach become much more comfortable.

She had been starving.

When she set the bowl down, she noticed everyone at the table staring at her in surprise.

Only then did Gu Yunsheng remember that ever since the original owner found out the Huo Family had encountered trouble, she had been constantly causing scenes at home and demanding a divorce. Not only did she refuse to address anyone properly, she had never eaten a single meal at home.

The original owner had a very picky palate, but after the Huo Family ran into trouble, the housekeeper was dismissed. The meals cooked by Huo’s mother were barely edible.

Thinking about this, Gu Yunsheng felt a bit embarrassed under everyone’s gaze.

Only Huo Chengxuan looked at her with complicated eyes.

How had she suddenly become like a completely different person overnight?

Wan’er was the first to react. She immediately began questioning Gu Yunsheng.

“Gu Yunsheng, what are you trying to do this time?”

Something strange was definitely going on. Whenever Gu Yunsheng behaved abnormally, it meant she was about to stir up trouble.

Previously she had taken advantage of knowing Wan’er to get close to the Huo Family. Every time Wan’er thought about it, she hated herself for it, feeling that she had ruined her brother’s life.

“Wan’er!”

Huo’s mother’s usually gentle face was now filled with anger.

“Mom, what did I say wrong? Every time she acts like this, it’s the prelude to another scheme.”

“She shamelessly married my brother, and now she’s demanding a divorce. The family is already in this situation, yet she still spends money extravagantly eating out every day.”

Seeing that another argument was about to break out, Gu Yunsheng quickly spoke.

“Mom, Wan’er isn’t wrong. I really did do many things badly before. It won’t happen again.”

As soon as Gu Yunsheng finished speaking, everyone clearly froze.

Wan’er, however, sneered.

“That sounds nicer than a song. Who knows what you’re plotting now!”

“Wan’er!”

This time it was Huo Zhenguo who spoke. His voice was deep and carried unquestionable authority.

Wan’er pursed her lips resentfully and stopped talking, though she still glared fiercely at Gu Yunsheng.

“Dad, Mom, I won’t divorce him. And I will give birth to the baby in my belly.”

The dining table once again fell silent because of Gu Yunsheng’s words.

After quite a while, Huo’s mother finally reacted.

“Shengsheng… what did you say?”

Even Huo Zhenguo spoke with a trembling voice.

“Child… is what you said true?”

Huo Zhenguo was a highly respected man and rarely showed such loss of composure.

Yet now, because Gu Yunsheng said she was pregnant and intended to give birth to the child, he was clearly shaken.

Regarding his children’s marriages, he had never insisted on matching social status. However, the way this daughter-in-law had entered the family had made him somewhat displeased.

Later his son was injured and the family encountered trouble. This daughter-in-law began causing endless problems, leaving him helpless.

Who would have thought that she would suddenly say she was pregnant?

The family was about to be sent to the countryside for reform. Since their daughter-in-law was demanding a divorce, they had already assumed their family line would end.

Now it was like seeing light at the end of a dark tunnel.

He even suspected he had misheard.

Everyone else, including Wan’er, stared fixedly at Gu Yunsheng.

For the original owner, this might not have been true. But Gu Yunsheng genuinely believed it.

The original owner actually did not know she was pregnant. She only discovered it after divorcing the male lead.

Later she even used the child to deceive the Huo Family out of the last of their belongings. After giving them hope, she heartlessly aborted the child.

When Huo’s mother heard about it, she could not bear the shock and fell seriously ill. She passed away within a couple of days. Huo Zhenguo was also deeply affected and died not long afterward.

The original owner felt no guilt at all. She even said that a family like the Huo Family deserved to have their lineage cut off.

Thinking about it, the Huo Family had truly been cursed to encounter such a woman.

Huo Chengxuan stared at her intently, unable to understand what Gu Yunsheng’s real motive was.

And what about her claim of being pregnant. Was it actually true?

If it eventually turned out to be a lie, how could his parents possibly endure such a blow?

If Gu Yunsheng knew what Huo Chengxuan was thinking, she would definitely give him a thumbs up.
