My Charm had grown naturally with age, but the other stats hadn’t budged. No matter how much I worked out or how many push-ups I cranked out, they just wouldn’t increase.

With every level-up, I got three stat points to spend however I wanted. I had decided early on not to waste any on anything except my physical stats. Even though I could’ve finished the quest a long time ago, being a gamer, I knew better. If I rushed it without proper prep, the next quest might be even harder. So I saved up the points until the deadline.

That five-year deadline ended tonight.

I decided to wait until I got home to finish it. I’d dump that last point into Stamina to push it to twenty and complete the quest. After that, I’d figure out what to do with the rest of my stat points.

Classes ended without any major drama, and I headed straight to the doctor’s office.

Why?

Because my childhood crush worked there—the only woman who had taken one of my virginities with a handjob in the middle of all that pain years ago.

Plus, I owed her. If she hadn’t handled the situation so well back then, I’d still be a laughingstock.

“Afternoon,” I said cheerfully as I walked in.

Lana, the school doctor, sat behind her desk, checking files, glasses perched on her nose.

I set my bag on the side table next to the medicine cabinet, slipped on a gown, sanitized up, then put on my scrubs and gloves.

“Good afternoon,” she replied, still buried in the paperwork with clear frustration on her face.

“Need any help with that?” I asked.

“No, the help you already give is enough,” she said.

That was because the school didn’t allow her a real staff. Students were encouraged to join clubs, and the doctor’s office counted as one. Kids were supposed to volunteer as helpers, and it was up to Lana to recruit them.

But let’s be real.

Who wanted to play nurse and actually do work when they could join any other club and slack off?

Sure, some guys showed up because of Lana’s looks, but they usually quit fast once they had to deal with bloody injuries from the sports teams.

Lana even offered to pay a few to stay, but money meant nothing in this school— even the losers carried a couple of hundred bucks for lunch.

I was the only one who had ever applied voluntarily.

It surprised a lot of people, since I was already fit as hell—better shape than most of the instructors. But I still chose to do it for free.

Some enthusiasts tried to talk me out of it and even went to the principal, but he knew better than to push me. I had my grandmother as backup.

The excuse that I dreamed of becoming a doctor also helped sell it to her. Of course, she immediately started building a hospital in my name so that by the time I got my medical degree, I’d have a whole facility ready.

That was also why I decided to major in medicine. Once the lie started, I figured I might as well go all the way.

“How was your day?” I asked as I sat across from her.

“I have no problem answering that, but if I ask you the same question and you just say ‘A good day,’ I’m gonna snap,” Lana replied, head still down in the files.

“Then I won’t ask,” I joked.

“Good choice.”

“So what’ve you got planned for vacation?” I asked.

“I’m gonna cry myself to sleep every night, reminding myself how terribly single I am,” she said.

“Then why not go out?”

“Because for some reason, I only attract nutjobs. My dating experiences have been so bad that I’m scared to even try anymore,” Lana answered.

Lana’s dating life had always been rough. In the two years I’d worked with her, I’d only seen her get ready for a date once—and the next day she told me it had been a disaster.

It wasn’t that she wasn’t beautiful.

At 5’6 with piercing green eyes, sharp features, and slightly reddish hair, she was every guy’s dream. The kind of woman dead men would dream about, let alone happily married ones.

The only reason her dating life sucked was exactly because of how gorgeous she was. Guys took one look and assumed she’d slept with half the city.

I wouldn’t have blamed them if I hadn’t spent two years around her. I didn’t know every detail, but I knew enough to see she deserved to be happy with a decent guy.

“And what about you?” she asked.

“Well, I haven’t deci—” I started, but the infirmary door swung open. A group of boys rushed in carrying an injured kid, yelling, “Doctor!”

“Haa…” Lana sighed, lifting her head, but I quickly stepped in. “I got it. Don’t sweat it.”

I walked over to the group. When they saw me, their faces twisted, but none of them said a word. Every single one had taken a beating from me at some point.

It was no surprise that guys like them would “accidentally” injure a weaker teammate just to get brought to the doctor’s office.

All they really wanted was a chance to gawk at Lana. She knew it, but there wasn’t much she could do. That’s why I handled these cases.

Besides, I was fast with first aid. Anything that didn’t need a real doctor’s expertise, I was better at than her.

That was probably because of my stats.

I had just finished with that guy when another group showed up—this time, girls. And no, they weren’t here for Lana. They were here for me.

I treated them anyway without batting an eye. A few more students trickled in after that—some seriously hurt, others just trying to kill time.

Classes ran until three in the afternoon. After that, club practice went until six, and since most clubs were physical, injuries spiked during that window, whether on purpose or not.

That’s why I only helped during those hours.

Lana couldn’t hire a personal assistant because she was here as an optional staff member. She didn’t have to stay after hours, and the school would’ve had to pay her extra if she did, which she usually did anyway.

But today…

“Before you go, I want you to know I won’t be coming in during the afternoons after vacation,” Lana told me as the clock neared six and I was cleaning up.

“Why?” I asked, surprised. I’d urged her to take time off plenty of times, but she never listened.

“I got a job at the new hospital, Saint’s General,” she replied.

I recognized the name immediately. ‘Guess it’s finished.’

Last I heard from my grandmother, the hospital was almost done, and she was already doing interviews.

“Congratulations are in order then, huh?” I said with a smile.

“Yeah. I mean, they offered, and I didn’t see a reason to say no, especially with the crappy pay and constant ogling here,” she replied.

“Good choice.”

“But there’s one drawback,” she added.

“What’s that?” I asked.

“We won’t be spending time together anymore,” Lana said with a cute smile.

“Well, you can always call me, and I’ll appear like a genie out of a lamp,” I replied.

“Sure,” she answered in a playful Arabic accent.

We chatted for a few more minutes before I headed home. I made sure to remind her about my big day. She promised she wouldn’t miss it no matter what.

When I got home, the mansion was already buzzing with preparations. My mom was yelling orders at the caterers.

I greeted her quickly and went up to my room to get ready. I still had two hours before everything started, so I made sure I’d finish that quest today.
