Wen Xin glanced toward the room and pulled Zhang Xiaohua forward.

After dragging her a certain distance, Zhang Xiaohua finally couldn’t bear it and shook off Wen Xin.

Wen Xin was a little angry. “You wrongly accused her in the first place!”

“If she were really a thief, why would she write an IOU herself?”

“And even take the initiative to tell Brother Qin about it?”

Zhang Xiaohua froze. “Because…”

She stammered, unable to give a reason.

Wen Xin tugged her arm. “Let’s go, let’s go. The fact that Lin Fengxia didn’t keep pursuing this already shows mercy.”

Zhang Xiaohua felt indignant.

What she was dissatisfied with was Qin Jianguo’s attitude of defending Lin Fengxia.

She was unwillingly led away by Wen Xin.

Inside the room, Qin Jianguo looked at Lin Fengxia. “Comrade Lin, don’t take this matter to heart.”

Lin Fengxia had been deep in thought and said nothing.

Qin Jianguo thought she was upset because of this and didn’t know how to comfort her.

Lin Fengxia came back to her senses and noticed Qin Jianguo was still there.

She couldn’t help but be surprised. “Commander Qin, why are you still here?”

Qin Jianguo scratched the back of his head. “Well…”

“Am I… in the way?”

Lin Fengxia realized he wanted to stay and comfort her.

She smiled. “Commander Qin, don’t worry. I won’t be upset over this kind of thing.”

“I just really want to know how the money somehow ended up in my pocket.”

“When I deposited the money yesterday, no one was around.”

Lin Fengxia couldn’t figure it out.

She even suspected she remembered wrong.

But in her memory, she clearly remembered putting the money into the box and then stuffing it into the cabinet.

Qin Jianguo said, “I’ll find a way to investigate it. You get some rest first.”

As he turned to leave, he remembered something and looked back. “Do you have enough money? I can give you some more.”

Lin Fengxia waved her hand. “It’s enough, thank you.”

After Qin Jianguo left, Lin Fengxia kept the money close to her body.

After this lesson, she didn’t dare leave the money anywhere else again.

After leaving Lin Fengxia’s place, Qin Jianguo headed straight for the logistics department.

He arrived at the warehouse and saw a skinny, dirty man moving goods.

“Shitou.”

The man called Shitou turned around. Seeing Qin Jianguo, a fleeting panic flashed in his eyes.

He stepped forward respectfully. “Commander Qin, what brings you here?”

Qin Jianguo scrutinized Shitou’s ingratiating smile.

Shitou was young, only about seventeen. Because of long-term malnutrition, he was thin and shorter than other men.

Facing Qin Jianguo’s gaze, Shitou raised his head and met his eyes.

Qin Jianguo’s eyes darkened. “Was it you?”

“Who ordered you to steal the money?”

Shitou was astonished. “Commander Qin, I stay in the warehouse all day. What could I steal?”

He raised three fingers and swore to the sky.

“Commander Qin, I’ve already turned over a new leaf.”

“Thanks to you taking me in, I don’t lack food or drink in the camp. How could I still steal money?!”

Qin Jianguo narrowed his eyes and stared at him.

Shitou did not avoid his gaze.

After a long moment, Qin Jianguo withdrew his eyes. “As long as you have that determination.”

“It was my fault for wrongly accusing you. Sorry.”

“Work hard. If you run into any difficulties, come to me.”

Shitou smiled and saw Qin Jianguo off.

After he walked far away, Shitou shook the dust off his gloves before putting them on again, preparing to continue moving goods.

“Shitou.”

A crisp voice sounded.

Shitou’s eyes instantly lit up, and his sunken face gained a bit of radiance.

He took off his gloves, wiped his hands hard on his clothes, and walked toward the voice with a smile.

Wen Xin came carrying a kettle.

“I brought you some tea. Try it.”

Shitou smiled shyly. “How could I accept this…”

Wen Xin took his cup, rinsed it with tea, then poured a cup.

She handed it to him. “Hurry and try it. It’s really good.”

Shitou’s face burned red. He kept his head down, not daring to look at Wen Xin’s eyes.

When he took the cup, his fingertip brushed her fingernail.

Though it was only an instant, he reacted like he’d been shocked and quickly grabbed the cup.

Holding it with both hands, he saw how dirty they were and frowned, unconsciously pulling back a little.

“Try it,” Wen Xin urged.

Shitou pursed his lips and smiled, taking a sip.

The fragrance of tea spread through his mouth instantly, and his eyes lit up. “Delicious!”

Even though he hadn’t drunk many good things, he could tell good tea in one sip.

Wen Xin actually gave him such good tea.

That meant Wen Xin cared about him!

“If you like it, I’ll bring you some more next time.”

Shitou’s face reddened to the tips of his ears.

He lowered his head, toes curling, both hands gripping the cup tightly.

“N-no, it’s fine. Something this good… I don’t deserve it.”

Wen Xin frowned, looking serious. “How can you say such silly things?”

“You do deserve it. You deserve it very much!”

Shitou was dazed, his gaze at Wen Xin growing even more fervent.

Wen Xin rubbed his messy hair. “You should interact more with the people in the camp. They’re all good people.”

Since Shitou came to the camp, other than her and Qin Jianguo, he barely interacted with anyone.

Shitou stared at Wen Xin, feeling her gentle touch, his whole body frozen in place, trembling slightly.

Wen Xin was puzzled. “W-what’s wrong with you?”

Shitou suddenly felt a warm flow from his nose. He immediately covered it and said awkwardly, “N-nothing, just a bit of internal heat.”

Wen Xin looked worried.

Shitou ran awkwardly to the washbasin and cleaned the blood.

Finally he stuffed tissue into his nose.

Seeing him like this, Wen Xin laughed. “You really are a silly boy.”

Shitou looked at her with shining eyes.

If Wen Xin liked silly boys, he was willing to be one for life.

“Wen Xin.”

She looked at him. “What is it?”

Shitou’s cheeks were red. “I did something.”

Wen Xin was puzzled.

He continued, “I know sister doesn’t like the new woman, so I took her money and hid it.”

“Unfortunately Commander Qin seems to have noticed something and came to question me, but I didn’t admit it.”

Wen Xin’s eyes widened in shock. “What did you say?”

Shitou froze, hesitating. “I… did I do something wrong?”

Wen Xin shot to her feet, her face flushed with anger.

She clenched her fists. “Shitou, how could you—”

“If Commander Qin finds out it was you, he’ll definitely be angry! He’ll drive you out!”

Shitou declared, “If it’s for you, being driven out is worth it!”

Wen Xin’s expression changed. “How is it for me?”

“I don’t hate Lin Fengxia, and I never told you to do it!”
