“Alright, I get it, you like chubby girls,” Kat said with a verbal eye roll.
“I would say love is a more correct word, but I’ll give it a rest,” I muttered as I lay back in my bed, feeling at ease with how the conversation was going, “So where do we go from here?”
Kat paused and let out a short laugh, “What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
“Well, I’ve made it clear that I’m interested, and you don’t seem completely repulsed by the idea,” I summarized lightheartedly.
“So…you down to meet up sometime?”
This time Kat let out a real laugh, and I could hear her sheet rustle as she moved around on her bed, “You know this had got to be the most complicated, convoluted way anyone has ever asked someone else if they wanted to fuck.”
“It’s not fun if its easy,” I retorted.
Kat laughed again, “Seriously, you could have just let me fuck you at the fair, and this whole conversation wouldn’t have been necessary.”
“You’re missing the point,” I muttered with a sigh, “This isn’t about sex, Kat.”
“Really?” Kat said dubiously.
“Alright, it isn’t only about sex,” I corrected before continuing, “I just thought that we could bond a little bit over our shared interest.”
“Shared interest?” Kat echoed, either clueless or playing dumb.
“BDSM,” I stated plainly, “You are a dominatrix, right?”
“I mean, kinda, I guess,” Kat answered as she shifted around on her bed, “Really I just got tired of going unnoticed…I just wanted a bit of attention, then one thing led to the next…now I’m here.”
“Honestly, I relate to that a lot,” I admitted, turning up the sympathy in my voice like the gain on an amp.
“I find that hard to believe,” Kat muttered, “I doubt there’s a day that goes by where you don’t get asked out or some girl tries to slide you her number at the coffee shop.”
“Okay, I get your point, but you do realize that all of this is relatively new for me.
No one knew who I was before this year, besides the brother of that girl who OD’d.” I let more emotion and vulnerability creep into my voice as I spoke, “I had no friends, and no one talked to me, and in a lot of ways that still hasn’t changed.
“I-I didn’t think of it like that,” Kat admitted sheepishly, “That must have been pretty rough to deal with.
“Yeah, it was, but it also helped me grow a lot as a person…and I think you’re going through something similar now.” I said, wondering out loud, “So really my earlier offer is just me trying to help you change for the better…it’s out of solidarity.”
Kat scoffed, though I could hear the smirk in her voice, “Solidarity my ass; you were just horny and wanted to play out your weird fetishes.”
“Come on, being dominant is hardly a weird fetish,” I protested, “Besides, you seemed to enjoy every second of it.”
“Okay, every second is a stretch,” Kat argued.
“But you enjoyed some of it?” I asked, springing the question on Kat as if she had just stepped into my trap.
“Some of it was…kinda nice,” Kat confessed, “Though I was also fucking terrified at the same time.”
“Well, now that you know, maybe next time you won’t be terrified and you can enjoy all of it,” I offered.
“Who said there was going to be a next time,” Kat refuted.
“Nothing to lose, remember,” I called back, “Just promise me you’ll keep an open mind.”
“…Fine, just don’t do anything weird that makes me have to call the police on you alright,” Kat insisted.
“Relax, I’m not a creep, I’ll play it cool.” I reassured Kat before moving my finger to hover over the end call button, “I’ll see you around, Hernandez.”
The sudden dial tone was a bit of a shock to Kat as she stared at her phone in disbelief, “Did he just hang up on me like that?’
Overcoming her initial shock, Kat started reflecting on perhaps the strangest conversation of her life, ‘I really didn’t expect our talk to get that deep.
I thought he was just going to ask me for nudes.’
Before, Kat’s interest in Adrian started and ended with the fact that he was rumored to have a massive dick.
But now Kat couldn’t help but admit that she was a little more interested in the man behind the package.
‘Maybe there will be a next time.’
‘The county fair was the last weekend of my high school career where I could say with confidence that things were normal.
Well, as normal as they could be when you’re an active addict.
That night, everything seemed like it was going to be alright; my relationship with Jules was growing into something more than just friendship, and that helped me stay clean for awhile.
If only I had known that by Monday everything would continue to spiral out of control, then I might have put more effort into finding myself a new dealer. Find the original chapter at novelping . com.
Because even though I loved Jules, love wasn’t a strong enough drug for me to cope with everything that happened after the fair.’
“Nate Jacobs, please report immediately to the guidance counselor’s office.”
I stopped rolling my pencil between my fingers and glanced up at the PA intercom as a small wave of whispers and mutters passed through the classroom.
“No talking during the test, please!”
A sharp reminder from my calculus teacher squashed the small outburst, and soon the only sound in the room was the sound of pencils on paper and the click of calculators.
Putting my pencil down, I grabbed my bag and tested and walked to the front of the classroom, “I’m finished; can I be dismissed early?”
“You’re finished already?” My teacher looked at me doubtfully as I held out my packet of paper, “You sure you don’t want to go back and check your answers?
There’s more than twenty minutes left in the class.”
“I’m confident in my work,” I answered plainly, and after a second my packet was taken, and I was waved off, “I guess we’ll have to see when it’s time for report cards.”
Ignoring the snide comment, I left the classroom, my mind already on something as I walked through the hallway.
I didn’t really have a plan in mind until I heard the sound of wheels rolling.
Reaching the end, I paused and peered around the corner to see EMS rolling a crash cart out the front door as a concerned teacher talked with one of the medics, “She’s going to be alright; she just fainted from dehydration and most likely poor eating.”
“That’s not great, but what I’m really worried about are those bruises,” The teacher muttered as she clasped her necklace nervously, “They were fresh.
No more than a couple of days old and… well, it looked like someone had strangled her.”
The medic shook her head, “We told Principal Hayes, and he’s talking to Maddy right now, so hopefully he’ll have an answer soon, and this kind of thing won’t happen again.”
“Alright, thank you.” The teacher nodded her head in thanks before stepping back, letting the medic step outside and climb into the back of the ambulance.
Hiding back around the corner I mulled over everything I had just learned, ”They called Nate to the counselor’s office, and Maddy passed out in class with bruises around her neck…at the fair…Nate was already pissed off when I ran into Maddy; they had been arguing, and he wouldn’t have been in any better of a mood after our fight.’
Filling in the rest of the scene, I couldn’t help but frown as I had a gut reaction, ‘Why do I feel like I’m going to get involved in this shit one way or the other?
If the police really do get involved and think Nate abused Maddy, they’ll look for witnesses- I’m the last one who saw them before the assault happened.’
My hands balled into fists as I was suddenly faced with a scenario that I could only see spiraling rapidly out of my ability to control.
I felt my skin crawl and my jaw clenched reflexively as everything around me grew hazy and unfocused.
Digging my fingernails into my palms, I focused on the sharp stinging pain to draw a clear line in reality, in an attempt to ground me, though I could feel it slipping until a soft cautionary voice reached my ears.
“Hey, are you alright?”
