The players emerged from the tunnel to a modest but energetic crowd.
Unlike the packed atmosphere of Dinamo Tbilisi’s home ground, FC Gagra’s stadium felt smaller, more intimate.
Still, every voice echoed around the ground.
For Gagra, this was their final match before relegation.
For Dinamo Tbilisi, it was an opportunity to finish the season on a high.
For Ferdinand Feldhofer…
It was a farewell.
And for Giorgi Loria…
It was the biggest day of his young career.
His first professional start.
He stood beside Vakhtang Salia near the halfway line, rolling his shoulders to loosen up.
Salia leaned closer.
“Enjoy it.”
Giorgi nodded.
“I will.”
The referee checked both captains before raising the whistle.
One sharp blast.
The final league match of the season was underway.
Neither side rushed forward.
The opening minutes resembled a chess match more than a football game.
Dinamo recycled possession patiently across the back four.
Gagra answered in kind, refusing to overcommit.
Every pass was measured.
Every movement calculated.
“They’re feeling each other out,” the commentator observed.
“No one wants to make the first mistake.”
Giorgi drifted across the front line, constantly changing positions.
Sometimes he dropped into midfield.
Other times he hugged the left channel before darting centrally.
He wanted to make himself difficult to mark.
So far…
The defenders were matching him well.
Seven minutes in…
The quiet opening exploded into life.
Gagra midfielder, Vano Mchedlishvili received possession near the center circle.
Without hesitation, he clipped a magnificent diagonal pass toward the right wing.
The ball dropped perfectly at the feet of striker, Nodar Kavtaradze.
The winger cushioned it beautifully.
One touch.
He spun inside.
Kike Cadete tried to close him down.
Too late.
Kavtaradze unleashed a powerful shot toward the far corner.
The away supporters collectively held their breath.
The ball skimmed just outside the post.
Makatsaria watched it fly wide before exhaling deeply.
“That wasn’t far away,” the commentator admitted.
“Gagra have shown they mean business.”
The warning woke Dinamo up.
Their passing became quicker.
The midfield pushed several yards higher.
Vakhtang Salia began dropping deeper to link the play.
And Giorgi…
Started seeing more of the ball.
The eighteenth minute brought Dinamo’s best move of the afternoon.
Loria collected possession near the halfway line.
Immediately, Giorgi Lominadze drifted into space.
A quick one-two between the pair sliced through Gagra’s midfield.
Loria accelerated down the left wing.
A defender backed away, expecting him to continue dribbling.
Instead…
He wrapped his left foot around the ball.
The cross curled beautifully toward the penalty spot.
Vakhtang Salia timed his run perfectly.
He met the delivery first time.
But rather than guiding it into the corner…
He struck through it with too much power.
The shot flew straight toward goalkeeper Oleksandr Vorobey.
The keeper reacted instinctively.
Corner.
Salia clapped his hands in frustration.
“Should’ve done better.”
Giorgi simply pointed toward the corner flag.
“I’ll put another one in.”
He jogged across the byline.
Placed the ball carefully.
The wind tugged gently at his shirt.
Inside the penalty area, blue shirts battled for position.
The referee gave his approval.
Giorgi whipped the ball in with his left foot.
The delivery had pace.
Curve.
Height.
It looked dangerous.
Unfortunately…
A Gagra defender rose highest.
His clearing header soared almost vertically before dropping toward midfield.
“Gagra can counter here,” the commentator warned.
One midfielder sprinted after the loose ball.
So did several attackers.
The danger was building quickly.
Then…
Nikoloz Ugrekhelidze arrived.
His tackle was perfectly timed.
Clean.
Powerful.
The Gagra midfielder tumbled over the challenge as the ball rolled free.
The referee waved play on.
“Excellent defending.”
Instead of clearing long…
Ugrekhelidze calmly passed forward.
Straight toward Vakhtang Salia.
The veteran striker immediately found himself surrounded.
Two defenders closed him down.
One blocked the passing lane to the right.
The other tracked Nika Ninua, who had begun an overlapping run along the left.
Exactly as Salia wanted.
He glanced toward Ninua.
Both defenders followed his eyes.
For a split second…
Their attention shifted.
Salia smiled.
His right foot slipped beneath the ball.
Instead of playing wide…
He delicately lifted it over both center-backs.
Right through the middle.
The crowd gasped.
“Giorgi’s in!”
the commentator shouted.
Loria had already anticipated it.
He burst between the defenders.
The pass dropped from the sky.
He cushioned it on his chest.
Soft.
Controlled.
The ball fell perfectly in front of him.
There was no time for another touch.
His weaker foot.
His left.
Swung through the ball.
BOOM!
The strike exploded toward goal like a cannon shot.
Oleksandr Vorobey barely reacted.
He saw only a blur.
The ball screamed past him before crashing into the roof of the net.
Goal.
Silence.
Then…
“GOOOOOOOOAL!”
the commentator roared.
“WHAT A FINISH!”
“GIORGI LORIA!”
“ON HIS FIRST PROFESSIONAL START!”
“And he’s done it with his weaker foot!”
The replay immediately showed the technique.
Chest control.
Perfect balance.
A fearless left-footed volley.
One analyst watching from the television studio simply laughed.
“Sixteen years old…”
“Are you kidding me?”
For a moment…
Giorgi stood frozen.
He had expected Vorobey to save it.
The shot had felt clean…
But professional goalkeepers often stopped shots that seemed impossible.
When he finally saw the net ripple…
His eyes widened.
“I scored…” he whispered.
Then reality hit.
The crowd’s roar, his teammates were livid.
The noise woke hime up.
He sprinted toward the corner flag.
Halfway there…
A memory surfaced.
School.
The overexcited classmate.
“You promised!”
“I said I’d think about it!”
“You definitely promised!”
Giorgi groaned internally.
“This is going to look ridiculous.”
His teammates were already chasing him.
The cameras were on him.
Too late now.
He sat down on the grass.
Pretended to unwrap something invisible.
Then…
He enthusiastically took exaggerated bites out of an imaginary burger.
The away supporters burst into laughter.
The television commentators couldn’t contain themselves.
“No…”
the lead commentator chuckled.
“He actually did it!”
The co-commentator was laughing just as hard.
“That has to be the strangest goal celebration we’ve seen all season!”
The cameras found several Dinamo supporters in the crowd immediately mimicking the celebration.
Even Ferdinand Feldhofer shook his head from the technical area, trying, and failing, not to smile.
“You’ve got to be kidding me…”
he muttered with a laugh.
Vakhtang Salia reached him first.
“What on earth was that?”
Giorgi’s face turned bright red.
“…I lost a bet.”
“You what?”
“My classmates made me promise.”
The veteran burst into laughter.
“I hope they’re watching.”
“They definitely are…”
The rest of the team piled onto the teenager, still chuckling about the bizarre celebration.
High above the pitch, Charlotte Loria watched with one hand covering her face.
“Oh, Giorgi…”
She laughed through her embarrassment.
“That celebration is absolutely ridiculous.”
Then she smiled proudly.
As the celebrations finally ended, the scoreboard confirmed what everyone had just witnessed.
<>FC Gagra 0–1 Dinamo Tbilisi<>
Another goal.
Another brilliant contribution from number 55.
And somewhere back in Tbilisi, one overexcited high school student was undoubtedly celebrating harder than anyone else, because Giorgi Loria had actually sat down on a professional football pitch…
And eaten an imaginary burger.
