Su Jinhui keenly sensed that the jade pendant seemed to be guiding her toward the outer courtyard, in the direction of the scrap wood area.

She held onto the medical books and strode over. Sure enough, the closer she got, the more intense the jade pendant’s reaction became.

After prying away the wooden boards that blocked her view, she discovered an old, bulky bookcase made of red pine wood pressed underneath.Full novel: A Laid-Back 1970s Army Wife: Winning from Day One by Cleaning Out the Capitalist Family — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

This type of pine was extremely common and, on the surface, nothing special.

Yet the jade pendant showed no sign of calming down…

She crouched down and carefully examined the broken bookcase. Her hand brushed against an internal mechanism, and with two soft clicks—“da, da”—two hidden drawers popped open.

The drawer on the left was neatly filled with gold bars. The one on the right held an exquisitely crafted mother-of-pearl inlaid dressing box that had been deliberately aged.

These treasures were completely out of place beside the ordinary-looking bookcase, clearly hidden there on purpose.

The style was unmistakably reminiscent of something owned by capitalists.

Su Jinhui initially intended to stand up and inform the scrap yard owner, but the jade pendant still would not settle.

It seemed there were more secrets hidden here. Yet she had already inspected the bookcase inside and out, and there appeared to be nothing else unusual.

Suddenly, a thought flashed through her mind.

She immediately stored the bookcase into her spatial storage—and was stunned to discover a narrow underground entrance beneath it.

After glancing around to make sure no one was watching, she carefully removed the jade pendant, held it close to the opening, slowly closed her eyes, and used her spatial perception to probe the space below.

The first thing that appeared before her eyes was a batch of Czech submachine guns—more than twenty of them. In addition, there were radios, codebooks, and large amounts of cash and vouchers.

This tiny underground space was actually a hidden contact point for enemy agents!

It was only five kilometers from the military district—operating right under the soldiers’ noses. Absolutely despicable.

On the table lay a neatly placed notebook wrapped in brown paper. When she leaned closer to inspect it, she saw it was filled with names—clearly an important list of personnel.

One could imagine just how arrogant these people were to dare leave such crucial evidence behind.

They were confident this place would never be discovered.

Su Jinhui made a swift decision and stored all the cash and valuables into her spatial jade pendant, leaving behind only the weapons, radios, and other core evidence.

Afterward, she followed the indentations in the soil and placed the bookcase back exactly as it had been. She also took all the gold bars and the dressing box from the hidden drawers into her space.

She carefully restored the entrance, wiped away any footprints, and only then hurried away, returning to the waste paper pile to continue searching for old medical books.

In the end, Su Jinhui left fully loaded—her space stuffed with medical texts and her money pouch bulging as well.

She bought two creamy popsicles as a reward for Er Yatou. Popsicle in hand, she ate along the way, yet there was not a trace of sweetness on her tongue.

The most urgent matter now was to report what she had discovered—without exposing herself. An anonymous letter seemed the best option.

To minimize the risk of handwriting exposure, she used written words only for the address; the rest of the information was conveyed through drawings.

She quietly made her way near Yan Li’an’s office and used her spatial ability to silently place the letter on his desk.

First, she trusted Yan Li’an’s character—whether the letter was real or not, he would definitely verify it. Second, a chance to earn merit should naturally go to her own people, and Yan Li’an was the only one she knew.

After finishing training and returning to his desk, Yan Li’an was shocked when he saw the anonymous letter. His brows remained tightly furrowed.

He immediately stood and went to the sentry at the door. “Besides me, did anyone else come into my office?”

“No one did.”

“Did you leave your post at any point?”

“Never!” The sentry suddenly had a realization and quickly corrected himself. “Reporting, Battalion Commander—I did see a woman with an unfamiliar face come by, but she didn’t go inside.”

The sentry had been stationed on the island for many years. The only person who looked unfamiliar to him yet had dealings here was Su Jinhui.

Yan Li’an didn’t question him further. Instead, he returned to the office and checked near the window. There were no signs of forced entry, and besides, the window was locked from the inside.

How had she managed to place the report inside without making a sound?

But now was not the time to dwell on that. Verifying the authenticity of the information was the priority.

He personally went to the location described in the letter—and it matched perfectly.

Yan Li’an immediately reported to his superiors and personally led a team to carry out the arrest operation. That very night, they lay in ambush nearby, waiting for the prey.

Their sudden appearance caught the agents completely off guard, and thirteen undercover operatives were captured alive on the spot.

Not a single casualty. Not even one bullet was fired. The mission was completed without the loss of a single soldier.

In addition, two enemy radios and a large amount of incriminating evidence were seized, completely wiping out the spy nest.

Because of this case, Yan Li’an quickly rose to fame. Everyone praised him as young and promising, credited with making a great contribution to safeguarding the island’s security. His superiors specially arranged a commendation ceremony for that afternoon.

The first thing he did upon receiving the news was rush home to pick up Su Jinhui.

When he opened the door, she was just as usual—head down, immersed in her medical books.

“Comrade Jinhui, thank you,” Yan Li’an said sincerely—not only for himself, but for the soldiers and civilians on the island. The spies were like a bomb that could explode at any moment, and now that bomb had been safely defused in advance.

Su Jinhui froze. She had never expected him to guess it was her.

As she stood at a loss, he explained, “I’ve seen your handwriting—graceful yet strong, with a unique charm. I knew it was you. If you don’t wish to draw attention, I can keep it confidential. But I also know clearly that this merit doesn’t belong to me alone—it belongs to you as well.”

Being identified based on just a few words surprised Su Jinhui.

Since she had been recognized, she admitted it openly. “From now on, we’re husband and wife. Our honor and disgrace are shared. Your merit is my merit too—there’s no need to draw such a clear line.”

Her words were official and polite, but Yan Li’an didn’t notice. Instead, he took hold of her wrist. “The army is holding a commendation ceremony this afternoon. Will you come?”

Su Jinhui instinctively glanced at his hand. Only then did he realize his impropriety and hurriedly let go. “Sorry.”

“All right, I’ll go.”

Yan Li’an was promoted to deputy regimental commander. Although Su Jinhui’s contribution was not publicly announced, he repeatedly mentioned her name in his speech of thanks.

The sentry recognized Su Jinhui’s identity and slapped his forehead, blurting it out.

From then on, Su Jinhui’s merit was etched into the heart of every soldier. Everyone praised the two of them as hero and benefactor, a match made in heaven.

When those words reached Liu Ruolan’s ears, they pierced her heart like silver needles.

“Yan-ge is mine! He can only be mine! Su Jinhui, I won’t let you have it easy!”
