Friday, Day 5
Yesterday’s income:
Farming: 503g
Foraging: 994g
Fishing: 852g
Total: 2,349g
Charlie’s total funds had reached 2,464g.
As usual, he got up at six o’clock and checked the Fortune Teller.
Today, the spirits were in a neutral mood.
“Looks like the fairy wasn’t happy about me flirting yesterday.”
“Or maybe it’s because I tricked a girl into doing my chores?”
Charlie counted up all the bad things he had done yesterday.
Only counted them, though.
He had no intention of reflecting on them.
After getting dressed, he headed outside.
The moment he opened the door, he got a fright.
He was starting to wonder if the people of Stardew Valley had a habit of spawning right outside his door, because every time he opened it, someone seemed to be standing there.
This time, there were two of them.
Marnie was there, and she had a dog with her.
“Hi, Charlie!” she greeted him.
“Uh… good morning, Marnie.
What’s up?” he asked, pulling himself together.
Marnie patted the little dog beside her.
“Have you seen this dog?”
He looked down at the dog.
It barked a few times.
Marnie stroked its head again, then looked back at him.
“I found him sitting outside your farm!
He might not have a home… poor little thing.”
“Maybe he just likes it here!
Hmm… don’t you think this farm could use a good dog?”
Charlie studied the dog.
He’s kind of ugly, but I really have been missing a dog around here.
Then he looked at Marnie.
“Sure.
I like dogs.”
He reached down and petted the little dog.
“I’ll call you Little Lily!”
“It matches Lily Farm perfectly.”
The little dog barked happily and started spinning in place.
Though it seemed to be a male dog.
Haha.
Marnie was happy to hear it too.
“That’s such a sweet name.
I’m so glad this poor little dog finally has a home.”
“Well, Charlie, I’ll be going now.”
With that, she left the farm.
Charlie looked down at the dog.
It was time to set some ground rules.
“First, no running off.”
“Second, you have to help guard the house and yard.”
“Third, no eating poop!”
When the little dog nodded happily, he got back to his usual routine.
“Time to water the crops.”
After spending a little over ten minutes watering, he noticed two letters.
[Dear JojaMart Customer,
Our team members have removed the landslide caused by our drilling operation near the mountain lake.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the accident.
Morris
Joja Customer Satisfaction Representative]
“A landslide?”
Charlie had some impression of it.
It must have been that place from the other night.
“I’ll go take a look later.”
The second letter was from… Robin?
[Dear Farmer Charlie,
When we first met, I laughed at your Grandpa’s old cabin… Anyway, I hope you’ll come to think of Stardew Valley as your home!
-Robin, Stardew Valley Carpenter]
“Robin?”
She seemed to live up that way too.
He could visit her while he was at it.
That was the plan.
But Robin’s shop probably didn’t open until nine, and it still felt too early.
After clearing a large patch of trees and stones from the front of his house, Charlie made two Chests to store things in.
The work was honestly exhausting.
He had to eat a Field Snack before he finally caught his breath.
When he checked the time, it was already 10:00 a.m.
Time to head out.
“First I’ll go into town and see if I can find Penny or Abigail, then check whether it’s anyone’s birthday.”
“After that, I’ll go to Robin’s house.”
That was his plan for the day.
Unfortunately, he didn’t run into Penny or Abigail.
He only glanced around anyway, since he had a quest to take care of today.
After that, he arrived at the abandoned building he had visited before.
Someone was standing in front of it.
“Mayor Lewis?” Charlie asked, surprised.
Lewis turned at the sound of his voice.
“Oh, if it isn’t the young farmer.”
Charlie walked over and looked at the building.
“Ugly, isn’t it?” Lewis asked.
“It’s not bad.
The bones are good.
It’s just a little run-down.”
“This is the Pelican Town Community Center… or what’s left of it.”
Lewis looked at the building the way someone might look at an old friend nearing the end.
“It used to be the pride of the town.”
“Then why was it abandoned?” Charlie asked.
Lewis sighed.
“Young people don’t really come to events anymore.
Without anyone maintaining it, it ended up like this.”
“Joja Corporation has been trying to get me to sell it to them.
They want to turn it into a warehouse…”
“Pelican Town could really use the money, but I suppose I’m just a stubborn old man.
Or maybe I’m too sentimental… I don’t want to sell it.”
“But if someone joins their membership, then I’ll sell it to them.”
“I think you’re doing the right thing,” Charlie said.
It really was a nice place.
It was full of Lewis’s memories, and Charlie didn’t think it should be sold off.
“Thanks.
Well, no use standing out here talking about it.
Let’s go in.”
Lewis thanked him for the reassurance and invited him inside.
The interior was in rough shape.
There were holes all over the place, and something that looked a bit like a hut, though this one had a heap of grass piled on top.
“Oh.
It’s even more run-down than I thought,” Lewis said.
Charlie looked around.
Suddenly, a small green creature about the size of an apple popped out from a crack in the floor.
“What the hell was that?”
He jumped.
“What?”
Lewis looked where he was staring, but didn’t see anything.
Charlie knew it had hidden itself.
“What’s wrong?
Are you feeling unwell?” Lewis asked, worried.
He rubbed his temples.
“I just saw something move.”
Lewis relaxed a little when he heard that.
“Hmm… well, I suppose it wouldn’t be strange for there to be mice in here.”
But as Lewis was talking, several more green, apple-like creatures poked up from the floor behind him.
Seeing the look on Charlie’s face, Lewis became worried again.
“What’s wrong, Charlie?
You’re starting to worry me.”
“It’s nothing, Mayor.
I probably imagined it.”
He said it calmly.
Lewis didn’t press him.
“Mm.
All right, then.
Let’s head home.
It’s twelve.
Time for lunch.”
With that, Lewis walked out.
“I won’t lock the door anymore.
If you have time, you can come catch some mice.”
“And if you see Jas and Vincent, remind them not to catch mice for fun.
They’re filthy.”
After leaving Charlie with that, Lewis left the ruined old building.
Charlie didn’t leave right away.
He looked through every room, and at last, in the lower-left room, he spotted the creature again.
“There they are.”
He hurried over.
But just as he was about to touch it, it disappeared.
“How strange.
Gone again.”
“Wait, what’s this?”
Charlie noticed a square object glowing nearby.
What was this?
His curiosity reached its peak.
He reached out and touched it.
[Мы желаем Немору, чтобы он был счастлив помочь вам, и взамен мы хотим подарки из Долины.
Если вы человек, который может слиться с лесом, вы можете увидеть, как свиток выглядит на самом деле.]
“Uh.
I can’t read any of this.”
He didn’t recognize a single character on it.
Charlie searched the rest of the place carefully too, but didn’t find anything else.
“Forget it.
I’ll go see Robin first.”
