Regarding Alyssa’s sacrifice: the real issue is that the plot point didn’t quite land right—and I didn’t write it very well either—but I’ll give you the explanation that was meant to come up later.

The sacrifice required for Alyssa and Aegon would obviously be different from the one needed to forge a piece of steel.

Sacrificial magic operates on a principle of rough equivalence; for Alyssa and her baby, the subjects had to be truly innocent—it couldn’t just be anyone. That was something I intended to address later on, when the protagonist faced the challenge of having children.

But that’s a bit of an excuse, since I could have just stated it then; I apologize for that, but there is the answer as to why the two things are different. Read this novel at novelping.com for the best experience.

As I said at first, Alyssa was only supposed to die as she did in canon, and the issue with the lack of magic would only come to light when Viserra died in childbirth along with their child—which would also have been his major turning point.

But since I’d made Alyssa a close friend of his, it wouldn’t have made sense for him to just let her live, so I swapped Viserra’s death for hers.

However, since it was something I came up with while actually writing the chapter—which is true for most of my plot points 😅😅😅—the execution wasn’t quite as polished.
