17 – Is That Handsome Man Her Ex-Husband?
Yuan Ning Wang heard the commotion before Yun Sangsang, but he paid no mind to who was over there.
Since he didn’t sense even a trace of demonic energy, it meant those weren’t members of the demon race chasing him. In that case, whoever they were, it had nothing to do with him.
Yun Sangsang heard it a few moments later. As soon as she did, she looked up curiously toward the direction of the sound.
When she raised her head, the group was still fighting deep in the woods. Under the moonlight, only a few faint, flickering shadows and the glint of blades reflecting the desolate moonlight could be seen.
In the blink of an eye, the group burst out of the woods, clashing just five zhang away from them!
Yun Sangsang could see clearly now: a tall man dressed in black with a black cloth covering his face was being pursued by five people in matching purple attire.
The tall man was already injured. Against the relentless pursuit and entanglement of the five, he was struggling to hold his ground.
A closer look would reveal that the five slender, elegant fingers gripping his sword were trembling slightly, and his deep eyes held a resolute determination to face death.
Yun Sangsang glanced over, satisfied her curiosity, then withdrew her gaze and didn’t look further.
She lowered her head and continued folding Yuan Ning Wang’s sleeves.
Yuan Ning Wang glanced at her, somewhat puzzled. “Seeing injustice on the road, aren’t you going to draw your blade and help, celestial maiden?”
Yun Sangsang looked up at Yuan Ning Wang, a faint smile curling her lips. “How can I draw my blade and help? What if the one being chased is the villain?”
She turned and glanced at the fighting group again, then whispered to Yuan Ning Wang, “Look at him—covering his face with a black cloth, unwilling to show his true appearance. At first glance, he must be doing something shady to be pursued like this. In this situation, he’s either a villain or a good person who has provoked someone powerful.
In either case, we shouldn’t casually lend a hand. A villain, of course, shouldn’t be saved. And a good person who has stirred up major trouble—saving them would bring a heap of trouble upon ourselves. I’m too lazy to save them.”
The more important reason was that she didn’t have much Immortal Power left. Self-preservation was her priority; she couldn’t risk her own life to save someone else. It just wasn’t worth it.
She was a coward, afraid of death.
Yuan Ning Wang had no idea about Yun Sangsang’s cowardice. Hearing her words, he stared at her in great surprise!
Well, this celestial maiden’s values aligned somewhat with his!
He couldn’t stand those self-righteous, overly enthusiastic women who, without understanding the situation, insisted on jumping in to help whenever they saw a fight. Such a savior complex often brought immense trouble to family and friends, even inviting fatal danger. Those being saved, of course, liked such warm-hearted women.
But as a companion traveling with such a woman, being constantly dragged into trouble would be the worst luck imaginable!
He gazed at Yun Sangsang and suddenly found this Broom Star quite agreeable.
He curled his lips into a smile and said, “So that’s how it is. Thank you for the lesson, celestial maiden. I’ll remember it—I won’t casually save people from now on.”
Hearing this, Yun Sangsang suddenly felt something wasn’t quite right and added to Yuan Ning Wang, “It’s not that you shouldn’t save people at all. When you encounter someone truly deserving of help, or a situation where a small act of kindness from us can change someone’s misfortune, we should still lend a hand.”
As she spoke to Yuan Ning Wang, she glanced again at the fighting group.
Because she had just heard someone shouting for them to run.She looked over and indeed saw the tall man with a black cloth covering his face, who was entangled in a fight while turning his head to look at her and Yuan Ning Wang, shouting, “Miss, quickly take your son and leave! These people are not kind-hearted and might harm the innocent!”
Yun Sangsang raised an eyebrow as she looked at the tall man.
Son?
Hah, this man has a pair of rather beautiful eyes, but what a pity—they’re a bit blind!
Just look, how could a young and beautiful girl like her, dressed in fiery red wedding robes, possibly look like this little bald boy’s mother?
While watching the tall man, she nudged Yuan Ning Wang with her elbow. “Did you hear that? He said you’re my son.”
“Uh…” Yuan Ning Wang’s face had already darkened when he heard the man’s words, and now, hearing Yun Sangsang’s teasing tone, it turned even darker.
He glared at Yun Sangsang, then fiercely turned his head, staring coldly at the tall man.
Hah, is he blind?
What a waste of a perfectly good pair of eyes.
While fixing the tall man with a murderous glare, he said coldly to Yun Sangsang, “Why doesn’t the celestial maiden go help those five people? You’re right—someone who covers their face with a black cloth and dares not show their true appearance must not be a good person. Kill them, uphold justice, and accumulate virtue.”
Yun Sangsang burst into loud laughter!
Tsk, tsk, tsk, he really is a ruthless little wolf cub!
But…
She gave Yuan Ning Wang a meaningful look. Oh my, is he really just a child?
An ordinary child, even if mistaken for someone’s son, would only be a little unhappy, not seething with murderous intent like him.
His reaction was more like that of an adult who had been unjustly made to feel inferior by being called someone’s son, thus flying into a rage…
While she was subtly observing Yuan Ning Wang, over there, a critical moment suddenly arrived!
Taking advantage of the tall man’s distraction as he warned Yun Sangsang and Yuan Ning Wang, four of the five pursuers engaged him in combat, while the remaining one swiftly raised his sword and thrust it straight toward the tall man’s brow!
Surrounded on all sides, the tall man couldn’t dodge or retreat, so he could only tilt his head slightly to avoid the fatal strike!
Though he narrowly escaped, the sword managed to slice off the black cloth covering his face.
As the cloth slipped away, under the cool moonlight, his strikingly handsome face—as elegant as a painting of an immortal and as radiant as the moon in the sky—was suddenly exposed to everyone’s view.
Truly, a rare beauty among men!
Realizing his face was exposed, the tall man furrowed his thick, dark brows deeply. But he quickly regained his composure, tightened his grip on the sword, and continued to fight!
The Parrot perched on the tree, watching the commotion, froze for a moment upon seeing that face, then widened its eyes in shock!
It flapped its wings and flew up, transmitting urgently to Yun Sangsang with shock and anxiety, “Lingyao God!”
Yun Sangsang, who had been observing Yuan Ning Wang, hadn’t noticed the change over there.
Suddenly hearing the Parrot’s mind transmission, she was momentarily stunned, then abruptly turned to look at the group locked in combat!
When she saw the handsome face revealed by the tall man, her pupils contracted sharply!
Seeing that he could no longer evade the encirclement and that someone was already thrusting a sword toward his heart, Yun Sangsang’s heart trembled. Instinctively, she swiftly turned and, quick as lightning, grabbed a handful of leaves from a tree. With a flick of her wrist, she sent the leaves flying toward the group!
The leaves left her hand, transforming into sharp, blade-like projectiles aimed directly at the five men!In the blink of an eye, the thin blade reached the five men!
Just as their swords pierced through the tall man’s clothing without yet touching his skin, the thin blade struck their wrists with swift precision and ferocity, nearly severing all five hands clean off!
“Ah—”
“My hand!”
“Aghhh—”
