“Chen Ruru.”

“You think I’m that desperate?”

Wang Ziyu had thought Fang Yan was seriously introducing him to someone, but it turned out to be Chen Ruru, their high school classmate of three years.

She did look decent enough, but her height was a fatal flaw.

Although Wang Ziyu was not particularly handsome, he was about the same height as Fang Yan, around 1.8 meters.

If he and Chen Ruru walked together, people might think she was his daughter.

“What? You look pretty disappointed.” Fang Yan slung an arm around Wang Ziyu’s shoulders. “Honestly, I think you two match quite well. She talks a lot, and you’re relatively quiet.”

“Plus, you two have that adorable height difference. I think you’d be a perfect couple.”

“Get lost!”

Wang Ziyu glanced at Chen Ruru’s short, slightly chubby back and said unhappily, “I don’t want that kind of ‘complementary.’ I’d rather stay single than date someone short.”

“Hehe, are you looking down on Chen Ruru?”

“Should I tell her that?”

Fang Yan pretended to shout, scaring Wang Ziyu into quickly covering his mouth.

“Shut up, I’m begging you. With Chen Ruru’s temper, if she finds out I’ve been gossiping about her behind her back, she’ll scold me right here in the street. I still want to live here!”

“I try to introduce you to someone and you don’t want it. No wonder you’re single,” Fang Yan laughed.

“Oh, please. With your matchmaking style, I think you and Jiang Wanrou match pretty well too.”

“She can go a whole day without speaking, and you can’t stay quiet for even one minute. That’s pretty complementary too.”

“That’s different. She’s too quiet. Boring.”

“Shameless!”

Fang Yan tilted his head and chuckled.

“Xiao Yu, it’s okay. Just because you can’t find a girlfriend now doesn’t mean you won’t find one in the future.”

“And…” Fang Yan looked him up and down and smiled, “maybe you’ll end up becoming someone else’s girlfriend.”

“What the hell!”

…

Wang Ziyu’s face flushed red, and he stopped talking to Fang Yan.

Chen Ruru, who was waiting for the car, seemed curious. The petite girl tilted her head up and asked, “Why did you two suddenly start sulking again?”

Fang Yan smiled. “Xiao Yu is throwing a tantrum.”

Wang Ziyu’s face turned even redder.

By the bustling roadside, Jiang Wanrou stood quietly. Her breathtaking face remained cool and distant. Chestnut-brown hair draped over her shoulders, swaying gently in the breeze. Follow the newest chapters on novelping . com.

She seemed uninterested in Fang Yan and Wang Ziyu’s playful banter.

But if one looked closely, there was a faint trace of curiosity in her eyes.

Fang Yan stepped forward and asked, “Campus belle Jiang, is your driver coming to pick you up?”

“No. Ruru and I are taking a car back,” Jiang Wanrou replied softly.

“You’re taking a car with the petite one?” Fang Yan was slightly surprised. “Is it because your driver is busy?”

“No. I’ve never taken a ride-hailing car with Ruru before.”

Fang Yan smiled. So Jiang Wanrou wanted to make up for some small regrets before starting university, like never having taken a ride with a friend during three years of high school.

Then again, compared to the rest of them, her family background was worlds apart.

They were not even from the same world.

Like parallel worlds that intersected, able to see each other but unable to truly enter one another’s lives.

Being in the same class was probably the only chance most people in their lifetime would ever have to get close to someone wealthy.

“Hey, why are you asking so many questions?” Chen Ruru snapped. “What, are you planning to take the car back with us?”

“That works too.”

Fang Yan would not mind at all. He only had enough money left for a bus ride. If someone was willing to let him hitch a ride, he would be thrilled.

“You’re really thick-skinned.”

Chen Ruru voiced her inner thoughts. “You just want to spend more time with Wanwan, don’t you? She doesn’t even like you. What difference would a little more time make?”

Fang Yan could not be bothered to explain. Everyone already thought he liked Jiang Wanrou.

Rumors stop with the wise.

But apparently, everyone thought they were wise.

Chen Ruru seemed to think of something. Since Fang Yan and Jiang Wanrou were going to the same university, they would have many more chances to interact in the future.

She linked arms with Jiang Wanrou and asked, “Wanwan, you’ll eventually get a boyfriend, right?”

“What kind of person would you choose? What do you think of someone like Fang Yan?”

“Not good,” Jiang Wanrou replied calmly.

She took out her phone to respond to her mother’s messages urging her to come home. The soft glow of the screen illuminated her cool, fair face.

“Pfft, hahahaha…”

Wang Ziyu, who had been flushed with embarrassment for a while, burst out laughing.

Chen Ruru even rarely comforted Fang Yan. “It’s enough to have seen the flower bloom. There’s no need to care who it eventually belongs to.”

Fang Yan: “…”

The surroundings also grew quiet.

Jiang Wanrou occasionally glanced at the watch on her wrist. She seemed slightly anxious.

There were less than twenty minutes left before 8 p.m.

If she got home late, she would inevitably face another lecture.

Her mood grew irritable.

Just then, a soft “meow meow” sounded at her feet.

Looking down, she saw a small white cat. It looked dirty, probably a stray.

At the sight of the kitten, the cold distance on her face softened noticeably.

Girls liked cats, and she was no exception.

Just as she was about to crouch down and pet it, a hand suddenly grabbed the cat.

“Fang Yan, why did you suddenly grab the cat?” Chen Ruru demanded angrily.

“This is the cat I fed earlier. Look, it recognizes me.” Fang Yan crouched down and teased the kitten.

Chen Ruru frowned and took a closer look. The kitten really did seem to recognize Fang Yan and was not afraid of him at all.

Fang Yan pinched the kitten’s neck lightly and muttered, “You little flirt. I was the one who fed you, and you still ran to Jiang Wanrou’s feet.”

“But your taste isn’t bad. You know who looks the best.”

Chen Ruru froze for a moment, then exploded. “What do you mean by that?”

“What do you mean what do I mean? Can’t I tell the truth?” Fang Yan replied.

That single sentence left Chen Ruru speechless.

He was right. Jiang Wanrou’s beauty was undeniable.

Fine. She would emo alone this time.

Watching Fang Yan and the others petting the kitten together, Jiang Wanrou felt tempted.

She had liked small animals since she was little, but her mother especially disliked them.

Her mother had warned her never to raise pets, saying they might carry infectious diseases and harm her health, telling her to stay away.

Her life was arranged in every detail. Apart from occasionally looking at small animals online, she hardly ever saw them in real life.

Fang Yan crouched down while stroking the kitten and looked up at her. “Jiang Wanrou, want to pet it?”

Jiang Wanrou hesitated for a moment, then nodded lightly. “Okay~”

“Wait.”

Fang Yan asked her for a few wet wipes, carefully wiped the kitten clean, and only then handed it to Jiang Wanrou.

The moment Jiang Wanrou held the kitten in her arms, she smiled.
