Just as Ling Yun was waiting for someone to approach the Spiritual Peak, Yun Xi suddenly spoke. “Yun, this is already the hundredth time. Are you still planning to walk the same path?”
“Hmm?” Ling Yun slightly raised his eyebrows and looked toward Yun Xi.
“I think there’s absolutely no need for you to walk the same road again. They’re not worthy! That so-called master of yours, not worthy! Those so-called junior brothers and sisters of yours, not worthy! Those so-called fellow disciples of the Heavenly Dao Sect, not worthy! This ridiculous world… not worthy!” Yun Xi’s tone carried a coldness that Ling Yun had never sensed from her before.
Through countless reincarnations, Yun Xi had been the one who accompanied Ling Yun the longest. She understood everyone on Snow Moon Peak like the back of her hand.
No one knew just how much effort Ling Yun had devoted to Snow Moon Peak, to Master Xueyue, and to those junior brothers and sisters of his.
Snow Moon Peak was now basking in glory within the Heavenly Dao Sect. Even sects on par with the Heavenly Dao Sect would always mention Snow Moon Peak when speaking of it.
Everyone said Snow Moon Peak had three outstanding disciples—Yan Shan, Huangfu Ying, and Song Yushu. Each of them was a first-class genius. But no one knew that these three geniuses had all been trained by Ling Yun himself.
While Master Xueyue was indeed brilliant in cultivation, she was poor when it came to teaching disciples. Ling Yun’s current level of cultivation was mostly achieved through his own effort. After Master Xueyue took in a few more disciples, aside from passing down techniques, she barely did anything else. The cultivation and resources of those junior brothers and sisters were all managed by Ling Yun.
In order to support them, Ling Yun delayed his own cultivation, becoming the weakest among the four disciples of Snow Moon Peak.
But what did Ling Yun get in return for all of this?
Just a few baseless words from the so-called Child of Destiny, and those junior brothers and sisters of his stood against him without hesitation, striking at him without a second thought.
Even Ling Yun’s cultivation became a reason for their disdain. They said he was unworthy of being Master Xueyue’s disciple like them. As for all that Ling Yun had done, to them it was nothing but a joke. Song Yushu even said that without Ling Yun, they would still have reached their current cultivation level, perhaps even higher.
That was Snow Moon Peak—and the people of the Heavenly Dao Sect were no better.
While Ling Yun worked hard to revive Snow Moon Peak, he never forgot the growth of the Heavenly Dao Sect as a whole. At first, he believed Snow Moon Peak’s power alone was limited. If the entire sect grew stronger, it would also benefit the peak’s development.
To aid the Heavenly Dao Sect, Ling Yun poured in just as much effort. The sect’s current prosperity, with abundant resources and flourishing disciples, was entirely due to his management.
And yet, when Ling Yun was labeled a so-called villain and stood against the Child of Destiny, the first to cast him out, the first to declare war on him, was the Heavenly Dao Sect. No other sect was more aggressive in condemning Ling Yun, as if he were some lifelong enemy of the sect.
Since gaining her own consciousness and the ability to understand the world, Yun Xi had repeatedly wondered—did Ling Yun harbor some deep grudge against the Heavenly Dao Sect? Why did they always take the lead in hunting him down? Why did nearly all their disciples hate him with such intensity? But even now, she still couldn’t find an answer.
“Hah, a hundred lifetimes of reincarnation… it really is kind of ridiculous.” Ling Yun looked out at the endless sea of clouds and let out a soft laugh, as if releasing something in his heart.
“At first, I wanted to save my junior brothers and sisters, but it turned out to be pointless. Then I thought of saving the Heavenly Dao Sect—again, pointless. Eventually, I decided to save the world. And what happened? Still pointless! A villain trying to walk the righteous path and save the world is always met with endless obstacles. To hell with the villain’s destiny. I’m done being the villain. Let whoever wants it take it!” Ling Yun flung his sleeve, as though brushing something off his body.
“Exactly. Whoever wants to be the villain can go ahead. I want to see how the Child of Destiny grows up without you, the so-called villain!” Yun Xi clenched her fists and said.
“Yun Xi, aren’t you the Villain System? If I stop being the villain, won’t that make your title meaningless?” Ling Yun asked with a smile.
“Hmph, I’m the Villain System only when I want to be. If I don’t want to be, then I’m not!”
Yun Xi gave a cold snort, then pulled out a virtual panel about one meter long from who-knows-where. On it were six radiant words: [Destined Villain System]. She gripped the panel at both ends with her delicate hands, and as she applied pressure, cracking sounds echoed out. One crack after another appeared on the panel.
Under Ling Yun’s slightly surprised gaze, Yun Xi snapped the panel in two. The countless fragments scattered into specks of light, vanishing into the void.
Watching her, Ling Yun’s eyelids twitched slightly. He recognized that so-called virtual panel—it was the one from which he had accepted all his villain missions from Yun Xi. And now, Yun Xi had just broken it in half and tossed it aside.
“See? Now I’m no longer that so-called Destined Villain System!” Yun Xi clapped her little hands and said to Ling Yun.
While the two were speaking, a figure riding a flying sword landed before Ling Yun.
“Greetings, Senior Brother,” the newcomer said with a cupped-fist gesture. “The Grand Competition between the Three Sects is near. Master Xueyue has summoned you back to Snow Moon Peak to prepare for the event.”
Seeing the disciple’s casual demeanor, Yun Xi narrowed her eyes. After all, this was just an outer disciple of the Heavenly Dao Sect, yet he treated Ling Yun with such indifference.
One had to remember—Ling Yun was the Chief Disciple of Snow Moon Peak. For a mere outer disciple to act so dismissively toward him was utterly absurd.
“I understand. Go tell Master that I’ll return soon,” Ling Yun said.
“Yes, Senior Brother.” The outer disciple nodded, though a hint of confusion flickered in his eyes.
He had a strange feeling—this Senior Brother of Snow Moon Peak seemed a bit different from before. But different in what way… he couldn’t quite say.
After cupping his hands again, the disciple left on his sword. Delivering the message to Ling Yun was merely a side task. Informing the other disciples of Snow Moon Peak was the real priority.
