“You don’t agree?”
Lin Feng froze.
To be honest, before this, he had considered many possibilities. For example, Shen Chuwei might fly into a rage after hearing his words, or she might mock him with sarcasm.
But he truly had not expected that she would refuse to cancel the engagement.
“What? Are you surprised that I don’t agree?” Shen Chuwei frowned slightly and let out a light snort. “If I remember correctly, this engagement between us was arranged by our elders after discussion. Now you casually say you want to cancel it. What do you take me for? And what do you take our elders for?”
Hearing this, Lin Feng gave a bitter smile.
“Miss Shen, I have no intention of disrespecting you, nor our elders,” Lin Feng said sincerely. “It’s just that you and I are strangers, and we have no emotional foundation. Forcing ourselves to be together would only…”
He was clearly trying to explain.
But before he could finish, Shen Chuwei interrupted him without hesitation.
“Emotional foundation? That can be cultivated. Who says two people without feelings can’t be together?” Shen Chuwei said with displeasure. “As for not being familiar, that’s even less of a problem. Spend enough time together and you’ll naturally get to know each other.”
Seeing that Shen Chuwei still refused to agree, the bitterness on Lin Feng’s face deepened.
He opened his mouth, as if he still wanted to say something.
Shen Chuwei, however, was already growing impatient.
“You’re a grown man. Why are you being so indecisive? What part of me, Shen Chuwei, is unworthy of you?”
She stared at Lin Feng and pointed outside the octagonal cage toward the spectators. “Just look at the people sitting here. If I, Shen Chuwei, were willing to marry, which one of them wouldn’t be eager to take me?”
As soon as these words were spoken, the spectators who had been stunned by Lin Feng’s earlier statement finally snapped back to their senses.
Countless people stood up and shouted at the top of their lungs.
“That’s right! If Shen Chuwei were willing to marry me, I’d sell everything I own just to support her!”
“It’s just that Shen Chuwei doesn’t look at me. Otherwise, I’d happily be that toad!”
“You don’t know how lucky you are!”
As they shouted, their hearts were filled with resentment.
In Nancheng’s underground circle, Shen Chuwei had long been known as a princess. She was the dream goddess of countless men.
That alone was unbelievable. Yet he still wanted to cancel it.
He truly did not know what was good for him.
“You heard them, didn’t you? In this vast Nancheng, who knows how many people want to marry me.” Shen Chuwei said expressionlessly. “Do you really think I, Shen Chuwei, am not worthy of you?”
“Miss Shen, that’s not what I meant. It’s just…” Lin Feng smiled bitterly and waved his hands quickly.
“You don’t need to say anything more. If you insist on canceling the engagement, it’s not impossible. But first, you have to defeat me!” Shen Chuwei did not give Lin Feng any chance to continue.
The moment her words fell, she let out a sharp cry and lunged toward Lin Feng like a hunting leopard.
“Another fight?”
Watching Shen Chuwei charge toward him, a trace of helplessness flashed through Lin Feng’s eyes.
He only wanted to cancel an engagement. Why was it so difficult?
Since entering this underground boxing arena, this was already the second time he had to fight someone.
Letting out a silent sigh, Lin Feng did not hesitate. He quickly stepped back a few paces, creating distance between them.
“Miss Shen, I only want to cancel the engagement. I have no intention of fighting you,” Lin Feng said seriously. “Besides, even if we do fight, you can’t possibly be my opponent.”
“Whether I’m your opponent or not, we’ll know after we fight! I’ve said it already. If you want to cancel the engagement, you must defeat me first!”
Shen Chuwei clearly had no intention of backing down.
With a low shout, she rushed forward again and threw a standard straight punch toward Lin Feng’s face.
Though Shen Chuwei was a woman, the force of this punch was no weaker than Violent Bear’s earlier strike.
As she punched, a sharp whistling sound cut through the air.
There was no doubt that if this blow landed, Lin Feng would at least end up bruised and swollen.
But he understood now that if he wanted to cancel the engagement smoothly today, he would have to win.
“In that case… forgive me.”
Lin Feng said softly, and a sharp gleam flashed in his eyes.
In the next moment, he shifted his footing slightly and easily avoided Shen Chuwei’s punch. With a light tap of his toes, he quickly moved behind her.
Shen Chuwei’s heart skipped a beat. Instinctively, she spun around and delivered a sweeping kick toward Lin Feng’s chest.
This time, however, Lin Feng did not dodge.
He smiled faintly and instead advanced, closing the distance in an instant. His right hand seized Shen Chuwei’s leg, while his left arm slipped around her and pulled her tightly against him, preventing her from moving even an inch.
“Shen Chuwei, I told you. You’re not my opponent.”
Holding her leg firmly, Lin Feng spoke seriously. “If I counterattack now, you won’t even have room to dodge. So… you should admit defeat.”
Being held like this, Shen Chuwei’s cheeks flushed instantly.
Although she was renowned in the boxing arena and had defeated countless men, she had never, in all her life, been held so tightly by someone, their bodies almost pressed together.
“You… let go of me first!”
She twisted her body, trying to break free.
But Lin Feng’s grip was tight. No matter how hard she struggled, it was useless.
“Now you have to admit you’re not my opponent, right?” Lin Feng smiled lightly and said softly. He did not continue to restrain her and released her smoothly.
Freed from his hold, Shen Chuwei quickly stepped back two paces and glared at him angrily. “Do you really hate me that much? Is that why you want to cancel the engagement?”
“It’s not that I hate you. It’s just as I said, we have no emotional foundation. Forcing ourselves together isn’t a good thing,” Lin Feng shook his head and said seriously.
Ever since he came down from the mountain, his entire focus had been on finding the murderer who had exterminated the Lin Family years ago. He had no mood for romance.
Moreover, the murderer back then had been ruthless. If that person learned that someone from the Lin Family had survived, they would surely strike again.
Lin Feng was not afraid for himself. But if he truly formed a relationship with someone, they might be dragged into danger.
That was something Lin Feng was unwilling to see.
For that reason, he had made up his mind to cancel the engagement contracts arranged by his three masters, one by one.
