Chu Xia didn’t expect Ling Xu to follow her.

Sensing that he was not calm, she said softly, “We’ve already broken up, haven’t we?”

Unexpectedly, Ling Xu shouted emotionally, “I didn’t agree to it!”Full novel: After Concealing Her Pregnancy, the Powerful Men of Beijing’s Elite Circle Kneel in Regret — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

He grabbed Chu Xia’s arm tightly and said sharply, “When did you get together with him? Does he know you’re pregnant with my child? Was it during our relationship? Or did you switch over seamlessly? Li Chu Xia, you’re really something… I always thought I owed you something…”

Shen Fuyou covered her mouth in shock when she heard this.

She’s pregnant?

Could it be that she really let go of her brother and is going to get married?

Chu Xia raised her arm, trying to break free, but his grip was too strong—he showed no restraint at all, and it hurt badly.

“Ling Xu, calm down.”

“How am I supposed to calm down? Do you know how I felt when I called you and found out you blocked me? Do you know how I’ve been these days? I fight with my family every day, my mom even locked me up—all because I wanted to marry you! And you? You let another man spend the night at your place!”

His breathing grew heavier as he spoke, becoming more agitated. He suddenly pulled her closer and forced her to face him.

“I’m telling you, don’t even think about letting some other guy take responsibility. My child is not going to call someone else dad!”

He raised his phone, showing her a medical report clearly stating: 5 weeks pregnant.

“If he finds out you’re carrying another man’s child while fooling around with him, how do you think he’ll react? Hmm?”

Chu Xia frowned deeply.

Last time, when Sheng Jingshi saw surveillance photos of her dating Lou Fan, he dragged her out at 2 a.m. and raced across the city bridge. She truly thought he wanted to die with her that night. If he now found out she was pregnant with another man’s child… she didn’t know what he would do.

She exhaled softly, her eyes misting as she said weakly, “Ling Xu, you’re hurting me.”

Ling Xu hesitated for a moment. In the end, he couldn’t bear it, and loosened his grip slightly—but still refused to let go.

He insisted she go for a gender test.

“Xia Xia, I’ve convinced my mom. As long as you give her a grandson, she won’t interfere with me anymore. Then we can get married, okay?”

Chu Xia almost laughed out loud.

Not even considering his mother’s sexism—just the so-called “gender test,” at five weeks pregnant, it would require invasive amniocentesis. That was early pregnancy, a fragile stage. The procedure carried a risk of miscarriage. Yet Ling Xu didn’t care about her at all, nor about the baby.

A chill ran through her. Thankfully, this man wasn’t the father. Suddenly, she even felt that not having a father might be better—because men were often stupid and selfish.

Just as she was about to speak, a figure suddenly rushed out like a blur.

Shen Fuyou swung her expensive handbag and smashed it onto Ling Xu’s head repeatedly while yelling:

“You scumbag! Mommy’s boy! I’ll beat you to death, you shameless trash! Did your mother feed you the placenta when you were born? You disgusting idiot! Get lost! Sexist trash!”

Ling Xu was stunned but couldn’t hit back since she was a woman. He blocked her while shouting, “Are you crazy? Who are you? What does my girlfriend and I talking have to do with you?”

“She already said she broke up with you, are you deaf? I hate men who cling like this—disgusting!”

Shen Fuyou was furious. How could there be such a vile man? Talking about “giving birth to a grandson”—does he think women are just tools?

She cursed loudly, completely forgetting her usual elegant demeanor. Her voice was so loud that people in the hospital corridor kept turning to look.

Seeing that Ling Xu was being verbally overwhelmed and turning red with anger, about to push Shen Fuyou, Chu Xia spoke:

“She’s from the Shen family. If you touch her, your mom will cut off all your cards tomorrow.”

Ling Xu still had some sense of self-preservation and glared at her.

“Are you going to do the gender test or not?”

“Why should I?” Chu Xia pulled Shen Fuyou behind her and said calmly, “I’ll tell you the truth. This child isn’t yours—it’s Sheng Jingshi’s. What would you even do if I told him now?”

Ling Xu froze like he had been struck by lightning.

Chu Xia found it almost funny. He suspected she cheated, but never once considered the possibility that the child wasn’t his. Should she praise his confidence?

“Impossible… how could this be… you clearly…”

He fell into confusion, his mind a mess.

Shen Fuyou snorted coldly:

“So you’re the one who’s desperate to be someone’s dad? Please, grow up before chasing girls next time. Dating with your mom still attached? Just marry your mother instead!”

Chu Xia tugged her sleeve, signaling her to stop before he completely broke down.

Ling Xu slowly lost focus in his eyes. After a long silence, he stared at Chu Xia and asked:

“So a month ago… you cheated on me with him and got pregnant?”

Well… not exactly, but Sheng Jingshi, you might as well take this blame for now.

Chu Xia stepped forward and said seriously:

“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have lied. Even though we were together for a short time, I thought you were responsible enough to accept me regardless of my background and might even marry me. But now it seems… it’s good you didn’t. We really weren’t compatible, Ling Xu.”

Half truth, half performance.

Ling Xu swayed slightly, covering his face in defeat.

He left without saying another word, but before going, he gave Chu Xia a long look—one filled with complicated emotions she couldn’t interpret, and didn’t bother trying to.

Shen Fuyou watched him go and said:

“Are you nearsighted? You called that mama’s boy responsible?”

Chu Xia replied:

“When dealing with people, you should awaken their kindness, not provoke their darkness. If I had argued like you did, I might feel satisfied—but who knows if he would lose control and do something irrational afterward?”

Shen Fuyou pouted and didn’t speak, unwilling to admit that what she said actually made quite a lot of sense.

“So you’re really going to marry that man with no taste?”

Chu Xia paused slightly, only realizing after a moment that the “man with no taste” she was referring to was Sheng Jingshi.

She smiled and said, “Don’t worry. I don’t have any inappropriate intentions toward your blind date candidate. He’s not the father of the child—I just lied to Ling Xu so he wouldn’t be able to threaten me.”

Shen Fuyou widened her eyes. “Then whose child are you carrying?”

Chu Xia answered calmly, “Mine.”

Shen Fuyou blinked, quickly accepting it. She touched her chin and said, “That works too. The child is solid, but fathers come and go. Who said women can’t raise children alone? Apart from providing chromosomes at the beginning, what use are men anyway?”

After saying that, she seemed to remember something and hesitated before looking at Chu Xia.

Still unable to hold back, she asked, “So… have you really let go of my brother?”
