Shen Siren walked a tightrope of danger for Chu Xia every day—the rope was called power. One misstep would mean the downfall of his entire family.

Jiang Suizhou endured and planned for decades, trying to prove himself to Old Master Jiang, yet still lost his eligibility as heir. In the end, he set his sights on revenge against Shen Siren—but he never realized that a child not favored by fate never had anyone holding an umbrella over him from the beginning.

Only Chu Xia—she had no grand purpose. She simply wanted to eat her meals in peace, walk her own path, love what she loved. Yet she lost her only family, her only lover, and her trust in the world.

The cold of Beijing arrived earlier than usual this year. Under a sky full of stars and a sparse moon, Chu Xia sat absentmindedly on the terrace of Jiang Suizhou’s home, lost in thought. She had not revisited those memories for a long time.

Jiang Suizhou stood behind the glass door, watching her small figure, his gaze shifting slightly.

After a moment, he opened the door and asked, “Want to go racing?”

Chu Xia turned back at the sound, unsure what he was planning this time.

“Suit yourself,” she replied.

Ten minutes later, Jiang Suizhou tossed her old racing suit onto the sofa.

“Why is this still here?” Chu Xia was surprised.

“Everything of yours is still here.”

Seeing her suspicious expression, Jiang Suizhou took her upstairs and pushed her into a room.

“Take a look yourself.”

Chu Xia froze.

The room was exactly the same as the one she had once shared with Jiang Suizhou overseas. Even the book she had left open before leaving was still on the same page.

“My company is stable now, and I spend most of my time in the country, so I recreated your room 1:1.”

“When did you do this?”

“You’re not secretly in love with me, are you?” Chu Xia said, suddenly feeling a chill at the thought.

Jiang Suizhou chuckled. “I just thought it would be a waste of money if you had to rebuy everything when you came back.”

“You were so sure I’d come back?”

He didn’t answer. Instead, he opened the door and said, “Change your clothes. I’ll wait downstairs.”

Chu Xia followed Jiang Suizhou to the racetrack.

The night was as dark as ink. It should have been a quiet, late hour, but the place was alive with noise.

Neon lights flickered across the sleek bodies of racing cars. Engines roared one after another like a wild symphony.

At the edge of the track, girls in crop tops held up flags high. The cheers and shouts of young people merged into a wave that seemed ready to overturn the entire street. Among the crowd, some waved glow sticks, others whistled—the atmosphere was like a boiling furnace.

Chu Xia was surrounded by the excitement, temporarily pushing those unpleasant memories aside.

It was too loud here. Jiang Suizhou leaned close to her ear and asked, “Want to run two laps?”

She was tempted, but then remembered the little “bean sprout” in her belly and shook her head.

At that moment, a Formula 1 car stopped in front of them. The driver jumped out and greeted Jiang Suizhou.

“Brother Suizhou, here to play?”

Jiang Suizhou gestured to someone beside him, and helmets and gloves were quickly brought over.

“Brother, two laps?”

He didn’t move. Instead, he nodded toward the car behind the driver.

“Wing angle adjusted?”

“Yes, it’s more stable that way.”

“Not necessarily at high-speed cornering.”

The driver scratched his head awkwardly. “You’re amazing, how did you know? I’m still getting used to this car, cornering is a bit off.”

It was his skill, not the car.

Jiang Suizhou didn’t say that. Instead, he turned to Chu Xia.

“Want to try? I’ll take you.”

Chu Xia looked at the track. At the starting line were a Lamborghini and a Bugatti. She said, “I want that one.”

Jiang Suizhou followed her gaze and smiled. “Still cautious now? You weren’t this timid before.”

Chu Xia thought to herself: if you knew I was racing while carrying your child, you might not say that.

Jiang Suizhou signaled, and the owners of both cars were immediately invited down.

Normally, drivers at this level would not let others touch their cars, but facing a big boss, they stepped out respectfully.

Jiang Suizhou was about to ask which car she wanted when he saw Chu Xia already put on a helmet and gloves and climbed into the Lamborghini.

He smiled. “You want to race me?”

He had originally brought her here to cheer her up.

Chu Xia said calmly, “Anyone who brakes loses.”

Jiang Suizhou shook his head with a smile, also put on his gear, and got into the black-and-red Bugatti.

The F1 driver nearby nervously said, “Brother Suizhou, it just rained. The road is slippery. Is it okay for sister-in-law to drive alone?”

Jiang Suizhou, in a good mood, replied, “If I win later, I’ll treat everyone to a champagne tower.”

The driver asked, “What if sister-in-law wins?”

“She’ll pay for it too,” Jiang Suizhou said. “I’ll cover the bill.”

The flag dropped. A gunshot sounded.

Two cars shot out like arrows released from a bow.

Engines roared through the night sky—speed and adrenaline fused perfectly.

Chu Xia gripped the steering wheel tightly, eyes locked forward. She reacted quickly, shifting gears and steering smoothly through the first corner in seconds.

The Bugatti followed closely, and Jiang Suizhou showed no mercy—he immediately overtook her.

His driving was precise. The Bugatti moved like a snake, weaving and blocking her path. But Chu Xia switched gears smoothly; the Lamborghini erupted with power and quickly pulled ahead.

The rain had made the road slippery. In one sharp turn, her car slightly skidded, the rear swaying. Jiang Suizhou seized the opportunity and overtook her from the inside.

At that moment, Chu Xia’s steering wheel suddenly became heavy.

From the spectators’ view, the Lamborghini drifted dangerously—the right side of the car lifted slightly, with a sheer cliff just beside it.

If she failed to control it, the car would flip and fall down the mountain.

Everyone held their breath.

After a brief vibration, the car stabilized and landed firmly. The Lamborghini continued forward at full speed. The crowd erupted in cheers.

“Shit!”

The Lamborghini’s owner suddenly turned pale.

“I forgot to mention—the car’s almost out of fuel.”

The driver’s heart dropped.

At high speed, low fuel means unstable engine output. In a fierce race, this is extremely dangerous. Loss of power during turns or acceleration could easily cause a skid or loss of control.

“What the hell, why didn’t you say that earlier?!”

“There are three corners left!”

The driver was sweating profusely.

Three corners—any mistake could mean total destruction.

He shouted into the radio: “Radio! Where’s the radio? Call it off—stop the race!”
