Wei Jinlin was holding Fang Fengqin by the wrist, looking around for Ji Binglv, when Fang Fengqin’s footsteps suddenly halted.
He aggressively swatted away Wei Jinlin’s hand, his face dark as he strode purposefully toward a spot not far away. Suddenly turning aggressive, he delivered a heavy kick to the alpha who was reaching out to wrap an arm around Fang Rongxi’s waist.
The alpha staggered a few steps and knocked over a champagne tower. The crisp, shattering sound instantly drew the attention of most people present.
“What the fuck are you doing?” The alpha scrambled up in a rage, his face having taken a hit and his mind clouded by anger as he lunged forward a few steps to grab Fang Fengqin’s collar.
Fang Fengqin sneered, shaking off Fang Rongxi’s hand which had reached out to stop him, and stepped forward to exchange a few blows with the man.
“Chengzi!” Fang Rongxi’s brows furrowed deeply as he took a few steps forward, wanting to join the chaotic brawl. Having never fought a single day in his life, he hadn’t even gotten close before a flying shard of glass thrown by the alpha grazed his cheek.
A cold hand grabbed his collar and yanked him backward. Anxious to shake it off, he heard a familiar voice sound from right above his head.
“Stand still.”
Fang Rongxi’s body instantly stiffened, though his gaze remained anxiously fixed on Fang Fengqin.
The coercive pressure belonging to an alpha’s pheromones spread across the banquet hall. Having taken two punches from the alpha, Fang Fengqin returned three with a cold expression. He was never one to take a loss lying down.
Such a massive commotion quickly reached the ears of Father Gu and Elder Gu, especially upon hearing that Fang Fengqin was actively fighting someone. The host family, accompanied by an imposing entourage, marched in full force to the main hall.
Gu Song was in the middle of discussing business with Song Jiangyan when he heard the news, and the two of them hurried over just in time to catch the sight of the alpha towering over Fang Fengqin with a raised fist.
“Grandson! How the fuck dare you hit my Chengzi!” Gu Song suddenly let out a roar, delivering a kick straight to the alpha’s stomach and sending him flying backward.
When Fang Fengqin was helped up, there was still blood at the corners of his mouth.
He unsteadily shook off Fang Rongxi’s hand and delivered another vicious kick to the alpha on the ground.
“That’s enough.” Fang Rongxi embraced him with a heart full of anguish, just about to pat his back when he noticed several shards of glass embedded in Fang Fengqin’s back.
At that, his eyes truly grew damp. Throwing aside any concern for face or embarrassment, Fang Rongxi’s reddened eyes led Fang Fengqin away to receive medical attention.
Fang Fengqin shook off his hand, giving him a lukewarm, detached look. “You’re made of mud.”
Someone else had put a wandering, vulgar hand on his waist, yet he had swallowed his anger and endured it in silence, not even daring to vent his temper.
“Xiao Qin, let Gu Song take you to treat your injuries.” A birthday banquet that had been going so smoothly ending up like this left Father Gu somewhat displeased, but out of regard for the occasion, he suppressed his anger and didn’t blow up.
Elder Gu stood to the side watching for a long time, then pointed his cane at the alpha on the ground and instructed his bodyguards, “Take him outside. Investigate who handed him an invitation.”
This was a clear stance of protecting the Fang brothers.
The onlookers watching the spectacle caught the drift. With a few tactful people stepping in to smooth things over, the chilled atmosphere gradually regained its lively hum.
Gu Song took Fang Fengqin to tend to his injuries, with Song Jiangyan and Wei Jinlin tagging along.
Originally, Fang Rongxi had wanted to follow as well, but Elder Gu called out to stop him.
“Rongxi, you’ve just returned to the country recently, so you’re probably not too familiar with Rongcheng.” Elder Gu patted his shoulder. “This is the Ji family’s boy, Ji Binglv. The pharmaceutical market you’re looking to expand into recently just happens to be his family’s specialty.”
Fang Rongxi caught the underlying meaning in Elder Gu’s words. He and his younger brother had suffered a grievance at the Gu family’s banquet, and this was intended as a sweet morsel to placate the Fang family.
He managed a strained smile, turned his head to look at Ji Binglv, nodded in polite greeting, and said, “Mr. Ji, long time no name.”
Ji Binglv didn’t speak. From start to finish, his eyes remained fixed on the shallow, reddish scratch across Fang Rongxi’s cheek, until Elder Gu looked at him with a hint of suspicion. Only then did Ji Binglv calmly say:
“Mr. Fang, long time no see.”
Fang Rongxi’s expression froze as he heard Father Gu chuckling off to the side in amusement. “Oh, the two of you know each other?”
“We’ve crossed paths once before.” / “We know each other. Very well, in fact.”
A hurried voice and a gentle, unhurried voice sounded simultaneously. Unable to keep up his calm facade any longer, Fang Rongxi politely bade farewell to the group, saying, “I’ll go check on my younger brother first.”
With that, he turned hurriedly and strode in the direction where Fang Fengqin had left.
Fang Fengqin only belatedly began to feel the pain.
Perhaps it was because Ji Binglv had released his pheromones earlier to suppress the other alpha, but catching a whiff of that intensely rich rose scent had made the back of his neck start aching all over again.
Medicine had been applied to his face, and Gu Song had wanted to check the injuries on his back, only to receive a kick from Fang Fengqin for his trouble.
“Get a waiter to bring me some medicine and apply it. You guys hurry back and don’t delay your business.” Lying face down on the sofa, Fang Fengqin muttered, “And tell Elder Gu I’m sorry on my behalf.”
Gu Song said with a mix of exasperation and frustration, “Why didn’t you call me when you got into a fight? With your scrawny little frame, who could you possibly beat?”
He shook his head, unable to win against Fang Fengqin, and stepped outside. Spotting a waiter pushing a liquor tray, he called out without even bothering to look at his face, “Go grab a medical kit and apply medicine to the person inside. Be gentle.”
The waiter didn’t turn around, simply giving a nod.
“Whose family is that alpha from anyway? Got some real nerve on him. I’m going to go beat the crap out of him again in a minute,” Gu Song said to Song Jiangyan.
The two of them walked side by side, gradually drifting away.
The waiter picked up the medical kit and walked into the room.
Fang Fengqin was lying prone on the sofa. His face hurt, so he could only press the other side against his arm. He had taken off his suit jacket, wearing only a white dress shirt with two or three small tears where glass shards had pierced through.
Hearing footsteps, he didn’t turn his head, speaking lazily, “Shut the door.”
The room had the heater running, and letting the door open brought in a draft of cold air.
The waiter didn’t speak, gently closing the door behind him and turning the latch another click. Fang Fengqin didn’t hear it as he kept his head down, replying to a message from Wei Jinlin.
The hem of his white dress shirt was lifted up, and a large palm reached out to probe his clean, smooth back. The temperature was higher than his own, the center of the palm slightly warm.
Unaccustomed to the sensation, Fang Fengqin shifted his waist. “Just put the medicine on, don’t touch me.”
The newcomer’s movements in applying the medicine were extremely practiced. To Fang Fengqin’s surprise, he didn’t feel any pain. He set his phone aside and reached up to touch the back of his neck, constantly feeling as though an elusive hint of white pine resin was lingering right at the tip of his nose.
His blood felt somewhat feverish. He pressed his lips together and said to the person behind him, “Close the door on your way out.”
No response.
Still no response.
Frowning, Fang Fengqin turned his head back, but before he could clearly make out who was behind him, the back of his neck was firmly pressed down.
This kind of force. Fang Fengqin’s heart skipped a beat, and he began to struggle fiercely.
The person behind him blanketed his body, suppressing his struggling movements as a hand reached out to gently tear away the suppressant patch on the back of his neck.
The scent of white pine resin in the room grew thicker and thicker. Fang Fengqin gritted his teeth and spat out, “Shen Jiyun, let me go!”
Why on earth did this guy haunt him like a ghost?!
Seeing that he had been recognized, Shen Jiyun curved his lips with a hint of amusement.
“Young Master Fang, fancy meeting you again.”
Hearing that lukewarm, unhurried tone, Fang Fengqin felt his scalp go slightly numb.
The more he tried to avoid this person, the more unexpectedly this person kept popping up right in front of him.
“What happened last time was my fault.” Shen Jiyun’s attitude was unexpectedly gentle. With the pad of his thumb, he softly stroked Fang Fengqin’s scent gland, while his other hand pinched the young man’s chin, tilting his face upward.
Fang Fengqin’s cheek, which had taken two punches, was bruised and purplish, thoroughly ruining his delicate, beautiful features.
“How pitiful. Does it hurt?” A faint smile danced in Shen Jiyun’s eyes as he pressed moderately against the injured spot.
