“Miss Su, I am sorry. I was too impulsive last night.”

“Even though your mother is a shameless mistress who climbed her way up and usurped someone else’s place, stealing my cousin’s identity as the eldest daughter of the Su family for eighteen years… I still shouldn’t have splashed water on you.”

Su Mumu’s already pale and fragile face turned deathly white. Her eyes welled up, and tears began to fall rapidly, making her look utterly helpless.Full novel: After His Ex-Wife Became the One That Got Away, CEO Gu Goes Crazy Every Night Begging for a Remarriage — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Jiang Yousheng wasn’t there to apologize; she was there to twist the knife. Having said her piece, she felt a surge of satisfaction. “I’ve apologized. I won’t disturb President Gu and Miss Su any further.”

Gu Beichen hurriedly began to coax Su Mumu. “Mumu, don’t cry. It wasn’t your fault.”

The more he comforted her, the more aggrieved Su Mumu became. Her tears fell like pearls from a broken string. “It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t even be alive in this world. I’ve made my cousin unhappy… Beichen, you should just send me back abroad!”

Gu Beichen lifted his gaze to glare at Jiang Yousheng, his voice laced with a threat. “I see you have no sincerity at all. In that case, don’t blame me for making a move against Lin Yang’s little studio!”

Jiang Yousheng found it laughable. Nothing she said was wrong; Su Mumu had usurped a place that didn’t belong to her, ruining her biological cousin and aunt in the process. And she still insisted on crossing Jiang Yousheng at every turn.

“Then what does President Gu want me to do?”

Her temper had always been like this; she wouldn’t soften easily, especially regarding what Su Mumu had done to her aunt. Back then, she had truly wanted to see the woman dead. Su Mumu had been targeted by many because of her, but she deserved it.

“Beichen, forget it. I don’t blame Miss Jiang,” Su Mumu said, her heart full of resentment, though she didn’t want to ruin her image in front of him. “Let her go.”

Gu Beichen frowned, about to have her cleared out, when he saw Jiang Yousheng reach out and pick up the glass on the table.

“Jiang Yousheng!”

He instinctively shielded Su Mumu, blocking her path. In the next second, Jiang Yousheng emptied the entire glass of water over herself.

“Is President Gu satisfied now?”

“If that didn’t vent your anger, I can keep going.”

Her sudden action caught them off guard. Gu Beichen froze, his expression hideous. Jiang Yousheng was such a proud person; how could she apologize so easily?

Su Mumu seemed startled. Her small face was pale and her eyes shimmered with tears as she leaned weakly against the man. “Beichen… I didn’t mean to make things difficult for Miss Jiang. I didn’t want this… what happened back then wasn’t my fault… I…”

She looked terrified, as if she were deathly afraid of Jiang Yousheng. Her large eyes were filled with tears that would make anyone’s heart ache.

“Is Miss Su still not satisfied?” Jiang Yousheng turned to refill the glass.

“Enough!”

Gu Beichen reached out and grabbed her wrist. “Do you have to take it this far?”

“Otherwise? If President Gu’s fiancée isn’t satisfied, you’ll move against Yangyang.” Jiang Yousheng’s expression was cold. When she smiled, it carried a sharp irony. He was the one who forced her hand—how could he turn around and blame her? “If President Gu isn’t satisfied, Miss Su can do it herself. I won’t hide, and I won’t resist. Let her splash me until she’s done.”

The air in the room solidified. Gu Beichen felt a surge of agitation. He stared at her intently, and as she reached for the glass again, he grabbed her wrist and roughly dragged her out of the ward.

“Jiang Huai, take her back.”

Jiang Yousheng was soaked from head to toe. Water droplets fell from the tips of her hair, soaking through her thin clothes. Her wet hair clung to the side of her face, making her look even paler.

“President Gu hasn’t said if he’s satisfied. Vent it all at once so you don’t go pressuring Yangyang’s studio later. It hasn’t been easy for her to start her own business; it’s a small operation that barely survives. Please, President Gu, show some mercy.”

Her dark eyes were bright but cold, devoid of any warmth. Standing by the door, she made it clear that she wouldn’t leave until he gave his word.

“Sheng Sheng, go home first.” Staring at her bedraggled state, Gu Beichen’s eyes flickered with an unreadable emotion. “I promise you, I won’t make things difficult for Lin Yang anymore.”

He took off his coat to wrap it around her, but his anger remained. “Go back and wait for me.”

Jiang Yousheng felt a wave of relief. She grabbed his wrist, pushing her luck just a bit further. “Then can you also let me go? I’ve been sending out resumes, but no one will hire me. Someone told me outright that it was your doing.”

“Since you’ve made me leave the company, I still have to live. My father is in the hospital, and I have a mother to support.”

“I won’t show up to disturb you and Miss Su. I’ll wish you both a hundred years of happiness.”

Gu Beichen stared at her and let out a cold laugh. He suddenly pinned her against the wall by her wrists. “Wish us happiness? Jiang Yousheng, are you serious?”

“Mhm, I’m serious…” Jiang Yousheng forced a smile. They never had any feelings for each other anyway. After over a year of this entanglement, surely he had vented enough. She had finally accepted reality.

But he seemed provoked by something. He leaned down and kissed her, his movements growing increasingly fierce. Jiang Yousheng frowned and bit him.

“Gu Beichen, what are you doing? Your fiancée is right back there!” She pushed him away with a sharp shove.

Gu Beichen’s eyes were bloodshot, as if he hadn’t had enough. That look made Jiang Yousheng’s legs go weak—it was the same predatory gaze he had when his desires were at their peak. She instinctively turned to run, but he caught her by the waist and swept her up into his arms.

“Beichen.”

Su Mumu had climbed out of her hospital bed and run out. Seeing this scene, she glared deathly at Jiang Yousheng, her body swaying as if she might collapse at any moment. One hand was pressed tightly against her chest as she called out in a voice as thin as silk, “I’m in so much pain…”
