Lou Yuxi stared coldly at the man without saying a word.
Seeing that he couldn’t provoke her, the man stood up and lunged toward Luo Chenxuan beside her, raising the knife and slashing down hard.
Luo Chenxuan couldn’t react in time.
Just as he tried to dodge, it was already too late.
Lou Yuxi darted forward and blocked the blow for him. The knife cut deep into her arm.
“You’ve already taken someone important from me. I won’t let you succeed again.”
She kicked the man hard between the legs, making him stumble backward in pain.
Lou Yuxi picked up the knife he had dropped and walked toward him.
The man tried to snatch it back, but she didn’t hesitate at all. With a single slash, blood gushed from the man’s neck.
Clutching his wound in disbelief, he stared at her, clearly not expecting such a fatal strike. In his eyes, Lou Yuxi had always been the kind of girl who silently endured everything. Even if she fought back, he never thought she would kill.
He slowly lost consciousness and collapsed to the ground.
Lou Yuxi looked at the knife. It was the same one her mother had once tried to use to end both their lives.
Now, two lives had ended under this blade.
She turned to look at Luo Chenxuan. “It’s over, Chenxuan. I’ve protected you.”
This time, Luo Chenxuan wasn’t scared. He ran over and checked her wound, anxiously urging her to go to the hospital.
Seeing him so worried, Lou Yuxi smiled.
After a quick bandage at a nearby clinic, the two children returned home. Thankfully, the doctor knew her mother. Otherwise, they might not have been able to leave.
Back home, Luo Chenxuan kept asking Lou Yuxi where she had gone during that time. Most of his questions were answered.
The day Luo Chenxuan ran away, Lou Yuxi had been sad. She dragged the man to the entrance of the gambling den and then went home, only to find her mother lying on the ground, no longer breathing.
She walked up, not knowing how to feel—was she sad? Upset? She wasn’t sure.
Her mother’s hand clutched a wrinkled piece of paper. Lou Yuxi unfolded it and read her mother’s final message.
Something in her heart stirred again, and tears finally fell.
In the days that followed, she buried her mother in a peaceful place, along with her belongings and clothes. She didn’t want her mother to remain in that filthy, stinking house. So, she erased every trace of her mother from that place.
She stayed in that room, hiding, planning her revenge on the man. But he never showed up—until she heard his voice and Luo Chenxuan’s voice next door.
Everything came together.
Luo Chenxuan asked her if she was sad. Lou Yuxi nodded, then smiled and said, “But I still have you.”
And so, the two children reconciled, and life slowly returned to normal.
When Luo Chenxuan’s mother came home, they didn’t tell her what had happened. They hid everything.
When the New Year arrived, Luo Chenxuan’s father returned home and brought gifts for both of them. Luo Chenxuan asked Lou Yuxi what she wanted. She only said, “I hope you’ll always stay by my side.”
Later that night, Lou Yuxi came to find Luo Chenxuan.
“Chenxuan, my mother left me in your care. So… can I make a request?”
Half-asleep, Luo Chenxuan groggily replied, “Mm.”
Lou Yuxi pulled out a piece of paper from her pocket.
“Then… sign your name here.”
Still drowsy, Luo Chenxuan murmured, “Huh?… Where?”
“Here, right here.” She held his hand and guided him to the signature line.
With his eyes half-closed and barely awake, Luo Chenxuan scribbled his name without asking why.
Lou Yuxi, watching from the side, suddenly jumped up with joy. “Thank you, Chenxuan! I love you the most!”
Then she ran off with the paper.
The next morning, Lou Yuxi was glowing with happiness.
“What’s up with you? Why are you so cheerful?” Luo Chenxuan asked, suspicious.
“Hmph, Chenxuan, stop pretending. You already agreed to marry me. How could I not be happy?”
“Huh? Marry? Me?”
“Yep!”
Lou Yuxi pulled out a completed marriage application form. In the section for the male’s name was his unmistakably messy handwriting.
“Ah?”
Lou Yuxi beamed. “Once we’re adults, we can get married~”
Before he could say anything, she quickly tucked the form away and ran off.
Luo Chenxuan stood frozen in place.
The whole day, he kept trying to find a chance to get the form back, but Lou Yuxi guarded it like it was her most precious treasure.
That evening, Luo Chenxuan’s father returned home.
“Let’s start preparing. We’re moving in three days.”
Both Lou Yuxi and Luo Chenxuan were stunned.
“Because your mother and I have completed our assignment here. We’re heading to the next location.”
“Then… is Yuxi coming with us?”
“That… that’s not possible.”
“Why not?”
“I’ve found a very good family to take care of her. They’ll treat her well.”
“That’s so irresponsible!”
Lou Yuxi gently tugged at Luo Chenxuan’s sleeve.
“It’s okay, Chenxuan. I’m sure Uncle and Aunt have their reasons. Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine. We’ll definitely see each other again.”
Though she was smiling, there was a sparkle at the corner of her eyes.
In the final three days, Luo Chenxuan accompanied Lou Yuxi and did everything she wanted to do.
Until the final night before they parted.
They packed up their things. The family Lou Yuxi would stay with was a pair of kind elderly people, and she had already introduced herself to them.
That night, after dinner, Lou Yuxi quietly returned to her room without saying a word. Luo Chenxuan’s mother checked that he had packed his belongings, then went to bed early.
In the middle of the night, Luo Chenxuan heard a rustling sound.
Half-awake, he opened his drowsy eyes and saw a familiar figure lying on top of him.
He instantly sobered up. Lou Yuxi was sitting on him, wearing a sheer nightgown. In the moonlight, her figure was faintly visible.
Luo Chenxuan realized she wore nothing underneath the thin fabric and hurriedly covered his eyes.
“Yuxi! What are you doing?!”
“This is my wish. Can’t you fulfill it for me, Chenxuan?”
“W-what wish?”
“Of course it’s…”
“No way! We’re still kids!”
Lou Yuxi tilted her head in confusion. Luo Chenxuan peeked through his fingers at her.
Her flushed eyes glowed like little hearts. She was breathing heavily, her cheeks burning red.
The next moment, she lowered her head and gently bit his neck.
Luo Chenxuan’s heart nearly leapt out of his chest as he tried to push her away, but she was surprisingly strong and didn’t budge.
“You have to remember… you’re my Chenxuan, and I’m your Yuxi, okay?”
Her voice was soft and seductive, like a siren’s call meant to lure him deeper into her embrace…
