Half an hour later, the electric scooter arrived at the school.

Gu Rumeng didn’t leave right away but walked with Qin Yi toward the school gate.

“Hey, student, why aren’t you wearing your school uniform?”Full novel: After I Severed Ties With My Family And Left With A Broken Heart, They Finally Regretted It — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

A teacher standing at the gate, checking students’ attire, stopped Qin Yi.

“Sorry, teacher.”

Before Qin Yi could respond, Gu Rumeng stepped in. “Our pet at home got mischievous. While no one was around, it tore up the kid’s uniform. So for now, he doesn’t have one to wear.”

Somewhere on a street, a calico cat out on a walk sneezed.

Meow?

“I see…”

The teacher nodded thoughtfully. “Well, make sure you get a replacement uniform later.”

“He’s in senior year, with only about two months left until the college entrance exam. Teacher, can you make an exception?” Gu Rumeng added.

“Oh, senior year, huh? Alright then. The academic office is on the third floor—go there together and get a written note. That way, it’ll be easier when other teachers do uniform checks later,” the teacher said, pointing in a direction.

“Thank you, teacher.”

After thanking him, Gu Rumeng gave Qin Yi a playful wink.

Qin Yi, however, was a little dazed.

Parent?

Even after the two of them came out of the office holding the proof document, Qin Yi was still somewhat spaced out.

“What are you thinking about?”

Gu Rumeng waved her hand in front of his face.

“Nothing…”

Qin Yi came back to his senses, his gaze filled with gratitude. “Thank you, Sister Rumeng.”

“Silly boy, stop saying thank you all the time.”

Gu Rumeng smiled. “Go on, get to class. I have to head back and open my shop.”

After a simple goodbye, Qin Yi quickly headed toward the classroom, and Gu Rumeng watched him for a while before turning to leave.

Just as she reached the school gate and got on her scooter, a black Porsche happened to stop right in front.

At first, Gu Rumeng didn’t pay much attention.

After all, Yunyan City was big, and there were plenty of wealthy people.

First High was the top school in the city, so it wasn’t unusual for some students to come from rich families.

But when the driver’s door opened, the woman who stepped out caught Gu Rumeng’s eye.

She wore a loose-fitting gray suit over a white cropped T-shirt that revealed her waist, paired with thick-soled white sneakers.

Though her outfit was simple, it accentuated her elegant curves and made her look both clean-cut and striking.

What really drew Gu Rumeng’s attention, though, was her face—refined and handsome. Even with a thick pair of black-rimmed glasses, her striking features couldn’t be hidden.

Gu Rumeng had a strange feeling of familiarity. She felt like she’d seen this woman somewhere before.

But she was certain it was her first time seeing her.

How odd…

Why would someone she’d never met feel so familiar?

As she pondered, the woman who had stepped out of the Porsche seemed to notice her gaze. She turned slightly, and their eyes met.

The woman gave a polite nod but said nothing and continued toward the school gate.

Seeing that, Gu Rumeng didn’t greet her either. She figured the two of them would never cross paths again after today. So she simply nodded back and rode off on her scooter.

“Hello, may I ask who you’re here to see?”

The teacher at the gate stopped the woman in glasses.

“I’m a student’s guardian. I need to speak with my younger brother,” Qin Huizhu said.

“What’s the student’s name? And what year and class is he in?”

“His name is Qin Yi. Senior year…”

At that point, Qin Huizhu hesitated.

Because she had no idea what class Qin Yi was in.

“It’s fine, you can also tell me the homeroom teacher’s name. I can make a call to confirm.”

The teacher didn’t seem surprised.

These days, it wasn’t uncommon for parents to be uninvolved. Some didn’t even know what grade their child was in, let alone which class.

Qin Huizhu still couldn’t answer.

She then realized that she had never actually asked about anything related to Qin Yi.

If Qin Xiaofeng hadn’t mentioned it by chance, she wouldn’t even know that Qin Yi was in senior year now.

“How about this? I’ll call around and check which senior class has a student named Qin Yi.”

The teacher was about to pull out his phone.

Seeing this, Qin Huizhu quickly stopped him.

Last night, Qin Yi had been upset and hadn’t returned home. She recalled the things he said then and figured that if he knew she was here, he’d probably avoid her.

“I have another younger brother in this school too. His name is Qin Xiaofeng, senior year, Class 1. His homeroom teacher is Xu Lexian. You can call to confirm if you don’t believe me.”

“But don’t ask him to come down—he’s not feeling well. I’ll go up myself.”

Hearing this, the teacher at the gate looked a little puzzled.

He gave Qin Huizhu a long look, then made a call.

“Hello? Teacher Xu?”

“Do you have a student named Qin Xiaofeng in your class?”

“No, he’s not in trouble. His sister is here to see him about something.”

“Alright, I’ll let her in.”

After hanging up, the teacher pointed. “Senior Year Class 1 is on the fourth floor of that building.”

“Thank you,” Qin Huizhu said before walking toward the teaching building.

After she left, the teacher shook his head and muttered to the security guard beside him:

“These days, some parents are just unbelievable.”

“One brother is treated like a treasure…”

“And the other? She doesn’t even know what class he’s in.”

“Tsk. I know it’s common for multi-child families to struggle with fairness…”

“But this kind of blatant favoritism? This is the first time I’ve seen it. Unbelievable, isn’t it?”
