The moment my eyes caught the numbers on his wrist, I briefly thought he had finally done something useful.

For a mere moment, I was indeed hopeful.Full novel: After My Death, I Became A Genius — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Perhaps, it was some secret code, or maybe a contact connected to the people who had been interfering with our operations.

But the moment he started explaining that the numbers belonged to some random girl’s bank card…

All my interest disappeared entirely.

Seems, I wasn’t entirely wrong.

This nephew of mine was an emotional fool.

He was even smiling while staring at it!

Irritated, I turned away slowly back toward the window, my gaze meeting the night sky coldly.

Lifting the wine glass to my lips again, I took a small sip and let the liquor burn my throat.

I preferred this burn rather than hurting my ears with his emotional stories.

“Then send her the money,” I said calmly, stopping his further story.

And for a moment, I didn’t hear his voice anymore.

Then, after a few seconds, he spoke again.

“How much should I send?”

His tone seemed a bit saddened.

I sighed quietly.

The boy could handle guns and dangerous situations well enough, but sometimes his emotional thinking made him unbelievably foolish.

“I was thinking maybe I should go thank her personally,” he continued cautiously.

“She seemed like the kind of person who could really use help…”

I closed my eyes.

Not again with this.

My patience was already thin these days.

My father’s illness had been worsening for months, and none of the specialists we brought in could explain the cause.

Just when I found her, who could cure him, she was suddenly dead!

These days I couldn’t really forget it.

Savanna…

The circumstances of her death still made no sense, not to me at least.

Savanna had been one of the most capable people I had ever known.

And now, she was dead, all of a sudden.

Right when I needed her?

I had seen it there— Betrayal.

And for some reason I couldn’t believe she died in an accident alone while everyone else was safe and not even injured.

My calculating mind said, something was terribly wrong in it…

“Uncle…?”

Nathan’s voice broke my thoughts, pulling me back to the present.

I turned around slowly and looked at him.

“Nathan, do you remember what family you belong to?” I questioned calmly.

He blinked in confusion.

“The Abrahams?”

“Exactly.” I set the wine glass down on the table beside me.

“And do you understand what that means?” I questioned again..

He looked hesitant.

“It means that every step we take is watched.”

“Yes, our competitors, our enemies, even opportunists who want a piece of our wealth…

They all watch us constantly.

If you suddenly appear at the home of some unknown girl in the middle of the night, do you know what happens next?”

Silence consumed him.

Good, he seemed to realise it.

“They will go after her and her family, trying to find connection with us.” I muttered coldly.

I paused before adding quietly, “So unless you want to drag that girl into a world she doesn’t belong to— stay away from her.

This would be a most kind repayment to her.”

Nathan’s expression fell slightly.

He looked heartbroken, but I had no time for it.

“Just send her a million dollars…” I waved my hand dismissively.

“That amount should be more than enough for her family.”

Nathan looked down at the numbers on his wrist again.

For a moment, disappointment flickered across his face.

But I had already turned away.

My mind had returned to the same question that had been haunting me for weeks.

Savanna…

How the hell did she die?

And why would it only be her caught in the fire?

And if someone was responsible for it…

I would make sure they paid for it…

BECKY

The second-floor balcony of the schoolyard had always been one of my favourite spots before classes started.

However, today I only had one focus— Veronica Demoor.

She walked through the entrance— unbothered and calm, as though she didn’t care about the whispers around her anymore.

My eyes narrowed slightly…

Usually she was never my concern except a mood lightening product.

However, I never imagined this fat, ugly girl would become the reason for my headache…

“She’s here.” A voice spoke beside me.

The same girl I had seen earlier in the restroom.

I allowed her in my spot, only because of her deep hatred toward Veronica.

“Hmm…” I hummed only, my gaze following her.

She looked too confident.

As though she wasn’t at all the same Veronica we knew.

As though hitting her head had produced a completely new soul within her!

And something about that irritated me more than I liked to admit.

My fingers curled into a tight fist.

Damn!

I hated this fucking bitch!

“So…” I said casually, though my voice carried a quiet edge, “Did you do what I asked you to do?”

I tilted my head and studied her face.

“Did you take care of it?”

Her lips slowly curled into a satisfied grin.

“Oh yeah,” she replied confidently.

“Everything’s already set up.”

My brow arched, “So, I should trust you?”

Her grin deepened.

“Yeah, perfect!

After today, she won’t be smiling anymore.” She looked too excited.

A soft laugh slipped from my throat.

“That’s exactly what I wanted to hear.”

My gaze returned to that one girl whom I’d destroy, soon.

Veronica.

“She had forgotten who rules here, hadn’t she?” I said after a moment, my voice low with amusement, “it’s time to reactivate her poor brain cells again.”

The girl beside me chuckled softly.

“There’s no way she can walk away this time without looking like a total idiot.”

My smile widened.

“Be whatever you want today Veronica, I’ll not be saying anything to you today.

After all, your good days are going to end— soon.”
