Jiang Hua was wheeled into the living room by Xu Ma. “If Dad calls these days, tell him I’m on vacation. I don’t want him to worry about my car accident.”

Xu Ma: “I’ll keep it from the master, but you must take good care of yourself, miss.”

“Mm.” Jiang Hua responded faintly.Full novel: After My Family Was Ruined and I Was Dying, You Regretted It? — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

When Jiang Hua needed to take her medicine, Xu Ma was about to fetch water from the kitchen but suddenly saw Pei Zhan emerging from the bedroom.

“Pei Xiansheng?”

Hearing the voice, Jiang Hua looked up and met Pei Zhan’s gaze.

Jiang Hua shifted her eyes away indifferently. “Xu Ma, you can attend to other matters.”

Xu Ma was perceptive enough to recognize the tension between the couple and left without delay.

The man stepped forward and lifted the woman from her wheelchair. Pei Zhan held her, barely feeling any weight.

Though they had been married for only a year, their silence made them seem like complete strangers.

Pei Zhan had always been a man of few words, with most matters initiated by Jiang Hua—including intimacy…

Finally, Jiang Hua broke the awkward silence. “I know you’ve been busy with work lately. Since I haven’t fully recovered, I’ll move to the guest room temporarily.”

“Mm.” He responded lightly.

Pei Zhan gently placed Jiang Hua on the sofa and then poured her a glass of warm water.

Jiang Hua actually enjoyed watching him busy himself for her—it was the only way she could feel that the man before her loved her…

Pei Zhan carefully read the instructions on each medicine bottle and measured out the pills before handing them to her.

When he picked up the last small white bottle, Jiang Hua spoke up. “That’s heart medication. The doctor said it shouldn’t be taken with the others.”

“Pei Zhan, let’s get a divorce.”

“I’ll get some water.” Pei Zhan brushed off her words casually.

Jiang Hua had a family history of heart disease and underwent a heart transplant in her teens, barely surviving. However, she had never told him about this.

It was her greatest physical flaw, and out of insecurity and fear of being looked down upon, she had kept it from him.

Over the years, her heart had remained stable—until this sudden ‘accidental’ car crash nearly claimed her life on the operating table.

In the year since their marriage, aside from keeping it private, Pei Zhan had actually been a commendable husband.

He remembered all her preferences and habits meticulously when it came to her.

If not for Song Qingran, Jiang Hua might have truly believed Pei Zhan’s love was reserved for her.

Xu Ma returned from grocery shopping and prepared dinner.

During the meal, Pei Zhan’s phone rang. He stepped out to the balcony to answer it.

“Something came up at the company. I need to head back for a while.”

Pei Zhan picked up his suit jacket from the sofa and left without looking back.

The sound of the door locking echoed heavily in Jiang Hua’s heart.

Jiang Hua finished half a bowl of poroutine and returned to her room.

Xu Ma helped her sit up in bed before leaving.

Then, Jiang Hua picked up her phone and dialed a number.

The voice on the other end: “Hello, miss. How may I assist you?”

Jiang Hua, pale and expressionless, stared at the wall as she spoke coolly, “My husband is having an affair. I need you to help me gather evidence.”

The other party quickly replied, “That’s possible. Miss, you’ll need to pay a deposit of thirty thousand yuan here. Once the payment is received, an email will be sent for you to fill in your husband’s information. After the final payment is made, someone will contact you to coordinate.”

Jiang Hua asked, “Approximately how long will it take to obtain the evidence?”

The other party said, “It’s hard to say. It depends on how frequently your husband interacts with the mistress. If they are intimate and frequently visit hotels, such evidence can be used to file for divorce in court.”

“I understand.”

Jiang Hua hung up the phone.

Soon, she received an email notification on her phone.

She quickly edited the email and filled in Pei Zhan’s information.

Jiang Hua knew that in just a few days, she would get what she wanted.

Pei Zhan… As you wish, it will all be over between us soon.

At half past eleven in the evening.

Pei Zhan was driving from Fan Hua Si Jin Villa to the elevated highway leading to Hua Yuan. The dark road, illuminated only by two rows of streetlights, had very few vehicles.

Zuo Xiangnan glanced at a taxi in the rearview mirror and said, “President Pei, we’re being followed.”

Pei Zhan, typing on his office laptop while handling work, replied without looking up, “Ignore it.”

Zuo Xiangnan was an assistant personally selected by Pei Zhan. If he couldn’t even notice something like this, he wouldn’t deserve his position as chief assistant.

After exiting the elevated highway, the taxi drove off in the opposite direction.

Pei Zhan’s deep gaze followed the taxi as it disappeared into the distance.

At one o’clock in the morning.

Suffering from the aftermath of a car accident, Jiang Hua was in too much pain to sleep.

Unable to bear it any longer, she threw off the covers and tried to reach the bottle of painkillers on the bedside table.

Just as she was about to grasp it, she suddenly tumbled off the bed, mattress and all.

Pain instantly overwhelmed her, leaving her unable to utter a single word.

She could only curl up on the floor in agony.

In no time, Jiang Hua was drenched in cold sweat.

As she struggled to get up and almost reached the painkillers—

Thump

Her heart suddenly raced violently. Clutching her chest, her vision abruptly went dark, and she collapsed to the floor unconscious.

All of this was clearly witnessed by the man standing outside the master bedroom door…

Pei Zhan watched her struggle, watched her suffer…

Teetering on the brink of death…

Jiang Hua had managed to grab the medicine bottle but hadn’t had time to open it and take a pill before she lost consciousness…

When she woke again, she stared dazedly at the ceiling above. The room’s lights were now on.

And she was back in bed.

Jiang Hua gasped for breath. If not for the sharp pain in her chest, she might have mistaken everything that had happened for a dream.

Xu Ma, still in her pajamas, hurried over with a glass of water. “Miss, you’re finally awake! You gave us such a fright earlier. If you needed medicine, you should have called for help. If it weren’t for Pei Xiansheng finding you in time, who knows what might have happened!”

“How would I explain it to the teacher if something went wrong!””

Jiang Hua struggled to sit up, and Xu Ma considerately placed a pillow behind her back.

Rubbing her forehead, Jiang Hua felt somewhat dizzy. “Has Pei Zhan been back?”

Xu Ma nodded. “Pei Xiansheng came back to retrieve a document and left shortly after. Before he left, he asked that you call him once you woke up.”

Though Jiang Hua initially didn’t want to trouble him further, when Xu Ma handed her the phone, she still made the call.

The moment the call connected, both sides waited for the other to speak first.

Jiang Hua knew he would never take the initiative.

Pei Zhan: “Are you feeling better? There have been some issues with the company’s operations that require overtime work. I might not be able to accompany you tonight.”

Jiang Hua was surprised but quickly collected herself: “It’s fine. It’s father’s company after all – you’ve been working hard all this time.”

Pei Zhan: “Mm.”

Jiang Hua: “I ordered some chicken soup for your late-night meal. Remember to drink it while it’s hot. Tomorrow… come back early.”
