The barbecue stall was run by a married couple in their forties. Aunt Wang was the woman who served the customers.

Whenever Li Feng lost at gambling or ran out of money for food, he would come to ask Lin Qingxue for money. If she refused, he would hit her.

Aunt Wang had seen it happen so many times that she scowled whenever Li Feng showed up.Full novel: After Rebirth, I Became My Wife’s Devoted Husband — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Li Feng hurriedly said, “Aunt Wang, you’ve got it wrong. I’m here to bring Qingxue and the kids dinner.”

Aunt Wang was a fiery woman. She pointed at Li Feng’s nose and cursed, “Do you think I’m an idiot? You bring Qingxue and the kids dinner? I’ll write ‘Wang’ upside down if you do!”

That bastard had never shown a redeeming quality. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have cursed him like that.

Li Feng knew she didn’t trust him, so he quickly lifted the lid off the bowl, revealing the pickled-cabbage fried noodles inside. “Aunt Wang, look. I just made these. They’re still hot.”

Seeing the bowl filled to the brim with fried noodles, Aunt Wang’s mouth fell open in an O.

She instinctively pinched her thigh. It hurt.

“Good heavens! The sun really has risen in the west!”

Li Feng, who was useless in every way, had actually made dinner for his wife and children?!

Li Feng hurried to explain, “I wronged Qingxue and the kids before. I’ve made up my mind to change. Aunt Wang, you’ve looked after Qingxue so much all this time. I wanted to thank you first.”

He bowed slightly to Aunt Wang.

It wasn’t that he didn’t want to bow more deeply; his body was simply too clumsy to manage it.

When Aunt Wang saw him bow, she was so startled she stumbled back several steps and patted her chest. “Good heavens!”

He even knew to thank her now!

Uncle Zhang, busy grilling, called impatiently, “The customers are waiting for their skewers. What are you standing around for?”

Li Feng called out, “Uncle Zhang,” by way of greeting.

Uncle Zhang kept working and said flatly, “Your wife went to take out the trash. She’ll be back soon. Wait here.”

Li Feng thanked him and stood beside the stall.

Aunt Wang edged over to Uncle Zhang and glanced at Li Feng, who stood there like a door god. “Honey, don’t you think Li Feng’s acting strange today?”

Uncle Zhang was busy and didn’t soften his tone. “That’s between him and his wife. Don’t get involved. Go take care of the customers.”

“How can I not get involved? Qingxue’s such a good person, and she married that bastard only to never have a single good day! I think he’s pretending to be nice to her today so he can trick her out of money.”

Li Feng, standing not far away, heard every word.

He nodded too. “I was a real bastard before. I made Qingxue suffer a lot.”

Aunt Wang drew in a sharp breath and grabbed Uncle Zhang’s clothes. “Honey, you heard him, right? He said he was a bastard!”

Uncle Zhang looked at Li Feng in surprise. Seeing how sincere he looked, he softened toward him for once. “It’s good that you know you were wrong. Make a real effort to change. Don’t spend your whole life acting like a fool. A wife is someone to cherish, not someone to hit and scold.”

Li Feng immediately answered humbly, “I understand, Uncle Zhang.”

Li Feng was sincerely grateful to the couple.

Back in his previous life, when he’d done all those rotten things, the couple had looked after Qingxue. That was why he respected them so much now.

Aunt Wang’s eyes widened as she kept tugging at Uncle Zhang’s clothes. “You saw that, didn’t you? He’s like a completely different person today!”

“Can’t a man turn over a new leaf?” Uncle Zhang urged her, “We can talk about this later. Take these skewers to table three.”

Aunt Wang took the skewers, still keeping her eyes fixed on Li Feng.

Seeing how busy she was, Li Feng put the noodles beside Uncle Zhang, rolled up his sleeves, and stepped forward. “Aunt Wang, let me help.”

Before either of them could object, he began clearing the dirty tables.

It was Qingxue’s job, after all. If he did it for her, she could take it a little easier.

When Lin Qingxue came back with the two children, she immediately saw Li Feng clearing a table.

Every hair on her body stood on end. Instinctively, she pulled the children behind her.

Had Li Feng come to ask her for money again?
