There was still some time before work ended. He Li was chatting with Wei Huo, leisurely passing the time while waiting for dinner. Meanwhile, the company’s online meeting room had exploded with activity after Yu Qingge uploaded a document…
“Holy crap, who wrote this proposal?”
“We only finalized the plan yesterday, and the proposal’s already ready today?”
“Please, which genius did this? I need to know them!”
“It’s not just the speed—that’s impressive—but the content is insane! It’s incredibly detailed and perfect for our needs!”
“This doesn’t feel like something done in a rush…”
“Seriously, is the person who wrote this trying to kill us with their work ethic?”
The online meeting room buzzed with noise. All the senior managers were shocked after reading He Li’s proposal.
Yu Qingge’s eyes glinted with pride. “What do you think? Blinded by brilliance, right? Hmph, this is the gold standard of my man! If I told you this was all done in just a few dozen minutes, you’d probably start questioning your life after realizing how capable he is!”
Seeing others admire the man she liked, Yu Qingge felt sweetly proud.
Of course, alongside the amazement, there was also some frustration. They didn’t know the proposal came from He Li. They just assumed someone was going all out to impress the new CEO. Finalizing a plan yesterday and submitting a proposal today? That kind of speed was one thing, but to produce something so detailed and flawless? That wasn’t something you could just come up with on a whim.
They thought to themselves: if it were me, even if I racked my brain for days, I still wouldn’t be able to write something like this. And yet someone completed it all overnight. What kind of maniac doesn’t sleep just to work? Or had he been working nonstop since the meeting ended?
It was outrageous. Seriously outrageous.
It would’ve been fine if he were just being ridiculous on his own. But now he made the rest of them look lazy. What would the new CEO think of them from now on? Would they be expected to match this kind of effort?
“This is too much. Forcing everyone else to work harder too—unforgivable!!!”
In the online meeting room, the senior managers forced smiles while screaming internally. Of course, Yu Qingge could easily guess what they were thinking.
She didn’t expect the others to match He Li’s abilities. After all, his talent wasn’t something an average person could imitate. But since they were showing a willingness to work harder, she wasn’t going to ruin it for them.
More effort from the team meant better results for the company—and for her. That was a win-win. So she would just pretend not to know.
Thinking this, she smiled and spoke up, “Ahem, let’s put aside the chatter for now. Please review the proposal I just sent and see if there’s anything that needs to be added. If there are no major issues, then we’ll move forward with this plan for developing the breakout game. Alright, feel free to speak up…”
…
The events in the meeting room quickly spread throughout the company, reaching all departments and studios. Almost everyone was talking about it.
Even Wei Huo couldn’t hold back, “Damn, that’s insane! Someone actually wrote a flawless proposal overnight with tens of thousands of words? When did we get such a god in our company?”
Wei Huo continued chattering, “It’s impressive, sure, but it sets the bar way too high. If this becomes the norm, won’t we be expected to submit proposals overnight from now on? I really wonder what that guy was thinking…”
Then he turned to He Li and grinned, “Honestly, I prefer teammates like you. If everyone slacked off like us, then even if things move slowly, management wouldn’t blame us.”
He Li chuckled awkwardly, “Hehe…”
Wei Huo had no idea the very ‘slacker’ he was praising was the mysterious overachiever himself. He Li had no intention of explaining.
When the time hit, He Li left promptly for the day.
Just like yesterday, Yu Qingge was waiting in the car for him. Seeing He Li approach, her face lit up with happiness.
On the way to the restaurant, Yu Qingge brought up the meeting, “You don’t know how shocked the management was when I showed them your proposal. They couldn’t believe it! I really wanted to tell them you wrote it. The man I love is just that brilliant!”
“But I held back so I wouldn’t cause trouble for you.”
She smiled playfully, and He Li looked confused. “Is it really that big of a deal?” he asked.
Yu Qingge nodded seriously, “Of course it is! You’re so capable. Seeing others amazed by you makes me proud and happy. Because to me, you’re already my man. And seeing my man shine so brightly is the happiest thing for me. I wish the whole world could see how amazing you are—so every woman would envy me for having you!”
Her words were beautiful. He Li’s lips curved into a subtle smile.
Yu Qingge seemed to notice his reaction. “Hehe, happy now? I can make you even happier…”
Her voice softened into a gentle murmur as she leaned in close, her perfect figure brushing up against him, making He Li flustered. “Hey, I’m driving! If you keep distracting me, we’ll end up a pair of doomed lovers on the evening news!”
Yu Qingge huffed sweetly, “What nonsense are you saying? I don’t want to be doomed lovers with you. I want us to be a pair of lovebirds flying side by side.”
For safety, she reluctantly let go of him, and He Li breathed a sigh of relief, focusing on driving to the restaurant.
The weather wasn’t great today. When they got out of the car, the sky, which had been fairly clear earlier, had started to cloud over.
“Did you bring an umbrella?” Yu Qingge suddenly asked.
He Li shook his head, “No, but we came by car. We’ll head back to the company after eating, no need to worry about getting wet.”
“That’s not what I meant.” Yu Qingge got out and wrapped her arms around his, smiling. “I meant whether you brought one to go home later. What if it pours and you get soaked on the way back? You might catch a cold. How about I drive you home after work?”
Yu Qingge pouted, muttering, “So dull. Can’t you just go along with it and let me send you home? You blockhead!”
He Li chuckled. She was trying to pull the same trick again—pretending to offer a ride just to find out where he lived. Then maybe something would happen between them, and he’d be forced to take responsibility?
Ha, woman, I’m not falling for that!
Feeling proud of himself, He Li didn’t notice the sly glint in Yu Qingge’s eyes as she looked up at the darkening sky…
“Dear heavens, please let it rain cats and dogs!” Yu Qingge closed her eyes and silently prayed.
But she wasn’t watching her step, and there was a small ledge ahead…
“Ahhh!!” As expected, Yu Qingge stumbled and nearly fell, but He Li reacted quickly, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her back just in time.
She didn’t fall, but ended up pressed tightly against He Li’s chest…
The warmth of his body and the masculine scent made her cheeks flush. Yet she didn’t want to move.
He Li had just hugged her—in public!
Even if it was an accident, it still counted! This was a breakthrough in their relationship, right?
As she savored the moment, she suddenly picked up on something…
Thump! Thump! Thump…
It was He Li’s heartbeat.
It was speeding up.
She looked up slightly and clearly saw the awkwardness on He Li’s face. He was clearly flustered from holding her.
When he noticed her gaze, He Li immediately tried to pull away. But Yu Qingge didn’t want to let go—not after finally getting embraced by him. Her small hands clutched him tightly, and no amount of struggling helped.
Seeing passersby starting to stare, He Li leaned in close to her ear, “Everyone’s watching. Let go already!”
“No way,” Yu Qingge snuggled against his chest, “This is your first time hugging me! Who knows when the second time will be. I don’t want to leave your arms just yet. So… let me hold you a little longer, please?”
Her voice was soft and sweet, with a pleading tone that made it impossible to say no.
