The piercing scream sounded especially chilling in the vast warehouse.
The shadowy figure who had been happily collecting supplies was startled into a shudder, then immediately put on a vicious expression. “You’ve got a death wish…”
Muttering under his breath, he stopped collecting supplies. A spring knife suddenly appeared in his hand, and the blade shot straight toward the stunned Zhou Mi.
From the day Lin Su had met Zhou Mi, the woman had always carried herself in a lofty, superior manner. This was the first time Lin Su had ever seen her look so blank and foolish.
Seeing the knife coming at her with no reaction at all, Lin Su kicked Zhou Mi in exasperation, knocking her sideways and directly out of the blade’s path.
Taking advantage of the chaos, Wen Shiyun moved to the wall and switched on the warehouse’s main lights.
The warehouse always had emergency lighting, but it was dim. Once the main lights came on, both sides could clearly see each other’s faces. Lin Su looked at the figure before her and curled her lips into a cold smile.
This was the same man who had gone to their residential complex to steal things before. Those small-time thugs had all called him “Boss.” Later, after asking around, Lin Su learned that his name was Da Long.
Da Long didn’t expect more than one person to witness him using his space. He immediately tensed up and raised the knife again, trying to stab someone else. But this time, there were only four people in the warehouse: Wen Shiyun, Lin Su, Zhou Mi, and one unfamiliar man.
The man was probably just unlucky, he couldn’t dodge in time and had his arm slashed by Da Long’s spring knife.
And that wasn’t all. Under the bright lights, Lin Su clearly saw Da Long make a motion as if placing the man into his space.
After that motion, the man was still standing there, which made shock flash across Da Long’s face. Wen Shiyun seized the moment, pulled out the stun baton he had prepared earlier, and knocked Da Long unconscious from behind.
After a flurry of activity tying Da Long up, Lin Su turned over the inside of his wrist. Sure enough, she saw an extremely faint white dot. If not for Da Long’s relatively dark skin, the dot would have been invisible to the naked eye.
Lin Su herself had a similar dot on the inside of her right wrist, but because her skin was fair, it couldn’t be seen at all.
A similar dot also appeared on the inside of Cheng Jiajia’s wrist.
At this point, Lin Su could confirm one thing: people who had a small dot on the inside of their wrist were likely space users.
Moreover, Da Long’s earlier attempt to put a person into his space gave Lin Su a few more ideas.
But no matter how many thoughts or considerations she had, she still had to deal with the person in front of her first.
“All right, what are you still screaming for?”
Although Da Long had been subdued by Lin Su and Wen Shiyun, Zhou Mi kept screaming nonstop like a panicked chicken. Even the man who came with her seemed much more composed.
Of course, Lin Su couldn’t ignore the greed in the man’s eyes. He was probably a handsome young guy, but paired with the way he was staring at the remaining supplies in the warehouse, Lin Su felt a little disgusted.
“Lin Su! Lin Su! Did you see that? Those supplies just vanished in an instant, right?!”
Zhou Mi, finally coming back to her senses, was still panicked but spoke with an excited tone.
“Wow! A space appeared! Does this mean we’ll soon become supernaturals too?”
After muttering to herself, she immediately added, “I’m claiming all the supplies here for myself! And the stuff that person collected into their space from this warehouse—I want that too!”
Lin Su watched as Zhou Mi got more and more carried away, her cheeks flushing red with excitement. It was obvious she was daydreaming.
Lin Su ignored Zhou Mi’s rambling, silently enjoying the sight of her rushing from box to box, touching this and peeking at that, completely overjoyed.
Wen Shiyun kept a foot on Da Long, preventing him from lashing out if he regained consciousness. Seeing Lin Su’s expression, he immediately understood her mischief.
And honestly, he too was curious, he wanted to see how disappointed everyone else would be when they discovered the truth.
Soon, the police arrived. Hearing the commotion outside the warehouse, Lin Su subtly signaled Wen Shiyun. He nodded and pressed down harder on Da Long with his foot.
A hiss sounded, and Da Long groggily woke up. His eyes immediately fell on Zhou Mi, who was busy tearing open cardboard boxes.
Zhou Mi had been staring in fascination for a while, then suddenly felt hungry. She decided to open a box to see what was inside.
The boxes were all plain and unmarked, so it was impossible to tell what was inside just by looking.
She grabbed one of the boxes stacked on the floor and used a key to pry it open.
Inside was a box of beautifully packaged plush toys.
But no matter how beautifully packaged, they were still just inedible plush toys.
For some reason, Zhou Mi suddenly felt her heart pounding. She looked up and met Da Long’s ferocious glare, and Lin Su’s face, twisted in gleeful triumph.
An incredible thought hit her: “All the goods here… they can’t all be plush toys, can they?!”
As she said this, she still tried to convince herself that Lin Su wouldn’t be that cruel.
Little did she know, Lin Su’s smile only grew wider as soon as she heard it. She even nodded her head in agreement.
And it wasn’t just Zhou Mi—Da Long, being pinned down under Wen Shiyun’s foot, was now seething with rage, practically seeing red.
He had spent days staking out the warehouse, waiting for the right moment to strike. And now, they’re telling him the whole warehouse is full of plush toys? Wasn’t this just messing with him?
Lin Su seemed to hear his thoughts perfectly, smiling and nodding: “Exactly, we’re messing with you! This warehouse was always meant for these useless items. Isn’t Old Cheng pretty smart? Doesn’t he love passing along information? How’s that for a surprise? Excited?”
Da Long opened his mouth to curse, but before he could, Lin Su had already gone to open the warehouse’s main door.
Immediately, a group of uniformed personnel he had never seen before appeared before him.
Watching the security team escort Da Long away and have him and the others sign confidentiality agreements before leaving, Lin Su prepared to signal Wen Shiyun to head home.
This security team had been recently established, primarily to maintain order in the city. Its members included police officers, firefighters, military personnel, and some highly capable government officials.
And as a major donor of supplies recognized at both provincial and national levels, the Lin family naturally had channels to coordinate with these people.
So, after confirming the capture of the third person with a space, Lin Su had already prepared a series of moves.
First, she replaced all the warehouse supplies with plush toys. Just imagining the look on anyone’s face when they tried to steal her supplies, only to find them all inedible plush toys, was enough to amuse her.
Second, she had her father ensure the security team was ready to respond immediately. Any sign of theft and they would be on the scene.
Third, she arranged for Zhou Mi to deliver herself to the warehouse. The thought of Zhou Mi walking right into this trap made Lin Su feel a surge of satisfaction. When she had originally been planning how to alert the authorities about the existence of the space, she had hesitated. Now, Da Long had shown himself, and Zhou Mi had unknowingly become the first witness to the space’s power. It was a perfect cover for Lin Su.
Satisfied with her plan, Lin Su paid no attention to Zhou Mi’s furious shouting nearby.
“If you’re not leaving, Wen Shiyun and I will. Once the sun comes up, you won’t want to stay here. Stay if you like. Everything’s here. Considering the relationship between our families, take whatever you want.”
Zhou Mi shouted in anger: “This stuff is garbage!”
Lin Su laughed: “Garbage? These are authentic imported plush toys from DidiNi in the U.S.! This one right here? Market price, 268.”
She shook a plush toy she had casually picked up, a little clown sticking out its tongue, right in Zhou Mi’s face.
The mocking clown only drove Zhou Mi crazier.
Plush toys couldn’t be eaten, and with this heat, they were useless. Bringing them home would just take up space. Naturally, Zhou Mi wasn’t going to do anything that foolish. But she was still furious and tried to slap Lin Su, only to get kicked instead. Wen Shiyun was ready to step in if needed.
Seeing no advantage to gain, Zhou Mi stormed out, calling someone at home as she ran. The man she had brought along chased after her.
Listening to the fading footsteps, Wen Shiyun said, “She’ll definitely tell the Zhou family in Jingcheng about the space.”
For someone holding a large amount of supplies, the existence of a space was an incredibly powerful weapon.
Although things outside were gradually returning to normal, many people had jobs to go to. Electricity still cut out from time to time, but it was generally available. Water had been cut off, but water trucks delivered it to homes daily, and the supply wasn’t too strict, enough for everyone to take a bath every three to five days.
But all of this was just surface calm. Crops in the fields still wouldn’t grow. Indoor planting produced only meager yields. Once food reserves ran out, the first people to feel the impact would be those holding large amounts of supplies.
At that point, spaces would become a resource everyone fought over.
Lin Su, however, found this concept of space very strange. With a third space already appearing in the world, couldn’t she assume there were still other hidden people who also possessed a space?
And her suspicion was not unfounded.
When the top leadership in Jingcheng learned that An City had captured someone with a space, they were not particularly surprised. Instead, they followed the plan drafted a week earlier and had all the major provinces and cities implement it.
Naturally, Da Long, who had been taken away, thought he could leverage his space to gain a position in the official system. He gradually realized, however, that his situation wasn’t as advantageous as he had imagined.
Of course, that was all later.
At this moment, Lin Su, having dealt with two ill-intentioned people, was in high spirits.
After Meimei rested for a day, Lin Su did not go out. Sure enough, in less than two hours, news arrived that Old Cheng had been taken away by the security team.
But before Lin Su could feel pleased, an even more surprising piece of news came:
The patient with waterborne blisters had been discharged…
