“Yu’er, see? I told you that’s not Jiang Chengye. Do you recognize that guy?” Wang Xia pointed at Chen Wu and turned to ask the dazed-looking Tang Shiyu.
Tang Shiyu shook her head. That toad downstairs—she had never seen him before.
“Strange. This whole confession setup is exactly Jiang Chengye’s usual style. At first, I really thought it was him,” Wang Xia added.
A flash of clarity passed through Tang Shiyu’s eyes. Jiang Chengye was definitely nearby. He must’ve orchestrated this whole thing—setting up an impossibly unappealing romantic rival to make himself look superior, just to show how exceptional he was.
With that thought, the feeling of disappointment in her heart instantly vanished. She even felt like going downstairs right now to expose Jiang Chengye’s little scheme!
If Jiang Chengye knew what she was thinking, he’d definitely cry out in injustice—he was still at home, fast asleep.
“Come on, let’s head down,” Tang Shiyu said to Wang Xia.
“Go down? Yu’er, are you running a fever?” Wang Xia reached out to feel Tang Shiyu’s forehead, then compared it with her own. No fever.
The guy downstairs was leagues beneath Jiang Chengye—couldn’t even compare to his big toe—yet Tang Shiyu wanted to go down?
“Yu’er, your temperature’s fine, but are you out of your mind?” Wang Xia asked nervously.
“Oh, just come with me and you’ll see.” Tang Shiyu tugged Wang Xia toward the elevators.
The employees of Tangyu Group were stunned.
News of what was happening downstairs had already spread.
No one expected their cold, aloof CEO Tang to be into that type.
Young Master Jiang must be bawling in the restroom by now.
Serves him right for being too handsome!
Meanwhile, downstairs, Chen Wu stood awkwardly under everyone’s judgmental stares. He was lucky to only be standing—his three brothers behind him had it worse. They’d been shouting the confession lines for over ten minutes, voices hoarse, but still holding on.
Tang Shiyu hadn’t come down, but their shouting drew an even bigger crowd of onlookers.
At that moment, they felt like ancient criminals whose heads were displayed on city gates.
Inside the lobby, Ye Chen frowned slightly.
Where the hell was Jiang Chengye? Without him, Chen Wu and the others lacked the necessary arrogance. They couldn’t pull off the overbearing rival vibe at all.
Just then, the elevator dinged.
Ye Chen turned to look—Tang Shiyu and Wang Xia stepped out.
“There she is. Same business attire, same seductive heels, same irresistible black stockings. Just like I remembered. As long as this scene plays out, nothing’s changed. Yu’er, I’ll make you fall for me again,” Ye Chen thought to himself.
He simply watched the two walk out without greeting them—after all, they didn’t know each other yet.
But once he descended like a god and crushed the fake rival…
That flushed little face of Tang Shiyu, those tender eyes gazing at him…
Just thinking about it made Ye Chen drool. He quickly wiped his mouth.
All he needed was for Chen Wu to kneel—and that would be his cue to appear!
Under the blazing sun, the four of them finally saw Tang Shiyu come down.
Chen Wu had never wanted to see someone so badly in his life.
He was just about to kneel when Tang Shiyu completely ignored them and instead scanned the surroundings.
“Jiang Chengye, I know you’re nearby. You want me to feel disappointed? I won’t let you win,” she thought.
Wang Xia looked around in confusion, unsure what Tang Shiyu was even searching for.
At this point, Chen Wu had no choice. With everyone watching, he had to go through with it.
He dropped to one knee and shouted with forced enthusiasm, “Tang Shiyu, I like you! Be my girlfriend!”
His delivery was as stiff as a robot reading from a cue card—utterly emotionless.
“Say yes! Say yes!” the crowd roared in support, still unaware who the confession target really was.
Even though Chen Wu looked like a total disaster, the onlookers were just there for the show. It wasn’t like they were being confessed to.
“Wait… is CEO Tang actually coming down?”
“No way, is she really here?”
“Whoa! CEO Tang is really downstairs!”
Employees on the second and third floors were shocked.
“Yu’er, he’s kneeling to you,” Wang Xia whispered, tugging on Tang Shiyu’s arm.
Tang Shiyu had scanned the entire area and still didn’t spot Jiang Chengye. She muttered inwardly—was he hiding in the shadows?
She completely ignored Chen Wu’s kneeling and lifeless confession. It was Wang Xia’s tug that finally snapped her back.
She looked at Chen Wu, kneeling before her.
“Forget it. I’ll just ask these four myself. Jiang Chengye, I will expose you,” she thought.
Pulling Wang Xia along, she walked out. The crowd gasped in disbelief.
They really couldn’t believe this toad was trying to eat swan meat. Not only was he ugly, but he was also playing tricks?
Whether it was Tang Shiyu’s divine beauty or Wang Xia’s mature and commanding presence—Chen Wu didn’t deserve either.
“He’s really confessing to Tang Shiyu? He’s got guts. Doesn’t care about offending Young Master Jiang, huh?”
“Who gave this guy the confidence? He’s like a toad aiming for a phoenix!”
“If Young Master Jiang finds out, he’ll break this guy’s third leg for sure!”
“Exactly. Jiang Chengye has been simping for years and still hasn’t gotten her. Everyone in high society knows Tang Shiyu is basically reserved for him. And now some greasy guy just jumps in? Based on his outfit, my dog’s clothes are probably more expensive!”
“Shh… Let’s wait and see. Maybe this guy’s secretly a bigshot.”
Among the gossiping crowd, a few people who barely brushed shoulders with high society had some idea of the backstory.
“Did Jiang Chengye send you here?” Tang Shiyu asked Chen Wu, frowning. She tried to read his expression, but all she saw was grease and stubble.
Chen Wu and the others had just returned to the country and had no idea who Jiang Chengye even was.
They had no lines left. They just had to wait for Ye Chen to appear.
Seeing them remain silent made Tang Shiyu even more suspicious.
“Don’t say yes! Don’t say yes!” The crowd, seeing the confession target was such a gorgeous woman, immediately changed their chant.
Chen Wu and the others were fuming inside. If this were overseas, he’d have pulled out an AK and lit them up. This was straight-up personal insult!
“Yu’er, you think Jiang Chengye sent them as actors?” Wang Xia whispered.
Now that Tang Shiyu mentioned it, Wang Xia found it very plausible. Jiang Chengye was a famous second-gen playboy, known for his schemes. This could really be one of them.
Tang Shiyu nodded. Though Wang Xia looked like a cold, dominant woman, she was actually a soft-hearted sweetheart—still naïve enough to think this was a real confession.
Then Tang Shiyu looked at Chen Wu and said, “Even if you won’t say it, I know he arranged this. Go back and tell him—there’s no need to go this far.”
“Exactly! If you want to pursue someone, do it openly and honestly. Creating a rival who can’t even compare to him? That’s just low,” Wang Xia added, curling her lips in disdain. She clearly agreed with Tang Shiyu’s assessment.
Chen Wu was furious but couldn’t say a word. This was blatant personal insult—naked humiliation!
And just then, the so-called “god” finally descended…
