The next day.
Lin Wanfu received the news early that morning: every shareholder in the Lin Group had pulled out, and no one in all of Jinghai City was willing to do business with the Lin family.
The Lin family had collapsed completely. All of their real estate had been mortgaged and liquidated, including their old residence.
Yet even that wasn’t enough to cover their enormous debts.
Lin Wanfu knew perfectly well that Shen Congyan was behind all of it. He wanted to make her give in.
Father Lin watched as the gates of the old residence slowly closed. His face grew even paler, but when he remembered that he still had a daughter to care for, he forced himself to pull it together.
“Fufu, let’s go.”
“Dad, let me carry some of your luggage.” Lin Wanfu held out a fair, soft hand toward Father Lin—the hand of someone who had been pampered all her life and had never lifted anything heavy.
Father Lin shook his head gently. “No, there isn’t much. Dad can carry it.”
That was indeed the case. With the Lin family’s assets liquidated in bankruptcy, there wasn’t much they could take with them.
Lin Wanfu drew her hand back and thoughtfully touched the emerald necklace around her neck.
It wasn’t worth much, which was why she had been allowed to take it from the Lin family’s old residence.
Father Lin looked steadily at Lin Wanfu. “Fufu, believe me. Dad will rise again.”
“I believe you, Dad.” Lin Wanfu gave Father Lin a sweet smile.
Just as Lin Wanfu and Father Lin were about to turn and leave, dozens of black luxury cars appeared at the end of the road.
The leading car came to a slow stop. Its door opened, and a man in a sharply tailored suit stepped out.
Then he strode toward the Lin father and daughter waiting at the intersection, his long legs carrying him at an unhurried pace.
His expression was as cold as ever, his dark eyes devoid of emotion. Yet the sharp aura around him was oppressive.
“Shen Congyan, what more do you want?”
Father Lin instinctively stepped in front of Lin Wanfu and glared at the man approaching them.
He had never hated anyone so much.
Yes, it was true: the Lin family had wronged Shen Congyan. But now the Lin family was bankrupt, and he and his daughter had been left drowning in debt. Surely they had paid what they owed him.
Yet Shen Congyan, that bastard, was still pressing them relentlessly. He wouldn’t even leave his daughter alone.
As Shen Congyan drew closer, his personal information appeared before Lin Wanfu’s eyes.

Lin Wanfu stared at the Hobbies column and couldn’t help wondering if Shen Congyan was some kind of sex-crazed dog in human form.
What kind of decent person listed that sort of thing as a hobby?
This was ridiculous!
Shen Congyan didn’t even glance at Father Lin. He merely raised a hand and flicked his fingers. Immediately, bodyguards stepped forward and dragged Father Lin away from where he was shielding Lin Wanfu.
The events of the previous day were still fresh in Father Lin’s mind. The instant he saw Shen Congyan approach Lin Wanfu, his eyes reddened. He struggled and roared at him, “Don’t you touch Fufu!”
As two bodyguards in black led Father Lin away, Lin Wanfu’s hands clenched into fists. “Shen Congyan, how long do you think you can keep throwing your weight around? I’ll have you know, I got in touch with Big Brother A-Jin last night. He’s coming back this afternoon. Just you wait—I’ll make you pay!”
“Big Brother A-Jin? You sound awfully close.”
Shen Congyan seized Lin Wanfu by the chin. His possessive gaze swept over her features inch by inch before settling on her slightly parted red lips. His voice held a trace of undisguised chill. “Eldest Miss Lin, do you really think that good-for-nothing Shen Huaijin can protect you?”
Shen Congyan’s strong hand gripped her face, making Lin Wanfu’s words come out a little garbled. “Big Brother A-Jin said that as long as he’s here, he won’t let you hurt me!”
She knew Shen Congyan well enough to understand that saying this would definitely stoke his anger toward Shen Huaijin.
From the very beginning, her goal had been to make Shen Congyan and Shen Huaijin turn on each other.
After all, Shen Huaijin wasn’t any good either.
In the novel’s plot, Shen Huaijin had agreed to pay off the Lin family’s debts—but only if she married him.
That kind of taking advantage of someone in dire straits was, in essence, no different from Shen Congyan using his power to force her into submission.
Shen Congyan suddenly bent toward Lin Wanfu. His cold lips brushed her ear as he whispered, “Is that so? Then I’ll kill Shen Huaijin first, and afterward I can take my time playing cat and mouse with Eldest Miss Lin.”
“Don’t get so full of yourself. Do you really think you can do whatever you want? Big Brother A-Jin is the Shen family’s heir now. You still think you can kill him? Dream on!”
Lin Wanfu shoved at Shen Congyan, who had leaned in close, but he didn’t budge.
Annoyed, she acted without thinking and planted her foot on Congyan’s expensive leather shoe.
“Lin Wanfu, do you want to die?!”
The piercing pain made Shen Congyan’s expression crack for a split second.
Three years apart, and this woman still had the same spoiled-princess temper. She flew off the handle at the slightest thing.
She thought his being good to her was only right, but if anything failed to go her way, it was a heinous, unforgivable crime.
Stupid, selfish, and vicious.
He couldn’t even remember what he’d liked about her.
Lin Wanfu wasn’t afraid of Shen Congyan, who was all bark and no bite. She lifted her chin high. “You’re the one who got this close to me and tried to take advantage of me. A toad reaching for a swan! You deserve it!”
Shen Congyan gave a cold laugh, then suddenly wrapped an arm around Lin Wanfu’s slender waist and pulled her against him. “Eldest Miss, should I call you naive or stupid? If I really wanted to take advantage of you, do you believe someone would deliver you to my bed as a present tonight, for me to do whatever I wanted with?”
Unable to break free of Shen Congyan’s hold, Lin Wanfu glared at him. “You’re an animal!”
“Good insult, Eldest Miss. I really am.”
As he spoke, Shen Congyan started dragging Lin Wanfu toward the car, as if he intended to have his way with her right there.
“Help…” Lin Wanfu’s cry for help was swallowed by Shen Congyan’s kiss. He kissed her savagely, as if he meant to devour her whole.
When she felt Shen Congyan’s hand roaming over her thigh through the thin fabric of her dress, Lin Wanfu panicked completely and kept calling for System 0573 in her mind.
Now that she was at his mercy, she regretted not knowing when to stop. She shouldn’t have gone and provoked Shen Congyan.
【Host, it’s okay. I checked the male lead’s emotional fluctuations. As long as you don’t provoke him again, he won’t actually do anything too outrageous to you in the car.】
Watching its host being bullied, System 0573 was beside itself with worry.
But with its energy depleted, all it could do was fret.
Even with System 0573’s assurance, Lin Wanfu was still terrified.
In the story, Shen Congyan had forced her for three days and three nights until she died. How could she not be afraid?
A mist slowly gathered in her clear eyes. Her eyes reddened, making her look both pitiful and easy to bully.
Seeing Lin Wanfu like this, Shen Congyan’s hand paused for a moment.
But soon he was back to his earlier cold, domineering manner. “Scared now?”
“You’re always picking on me. I hate you.” Lin Wanfu’s soft little voice trembled with tears.
Shen Congyan couldn’t bear to watch. He took a tissue and wiped her tears. “How is this picking on you?”
Compared with the methods he used on other people, what he’d done to Lin Wanfu was child’s play.
But Lin Wanfu only cried harder.
“You’ve already driven my family into bankruptcy. Dad and I are buried in debt, and we can barely survive. How much more are you going to bully me? Do you have to drive me to my death?”
At that, Shen Congyan’s gaze darkened. He gently stroked Lin Wanfu’s delicate face. “Just beg me, and I’ll let you go—and spare the Lin family too.”
“Never. In your dreams!”
Lin Wanfu had grown up cherished and doted on by everyone. People had always been the ones to bow their heads to her.
Because she already knew what was going to happen, she could show Shen Congyan weakness out of fear. But there was no way she would beg him.
“Then don’t blame me for being cruel, Lin Wanfu. You owe me this. You deserve everything you get!”
Shen Congyan’s icy presence surged over her, relentlessly consuming Lin Wanfu’s jade-white skin, leaving her with an indescribable, scorching heat.
