The Qin Family had been bustling with activity these past two days, preparing to receive the Ji family from the Upper Capital.
Su Meng’s health was not very good. After resting for a day, her condition gradually improved. Meanwhile, she compiled a list of items to purchase for Ji Weichen, starting to help him adapt to his current state of blindness.
News of Su Meng’s purchases eventually reached Qin Ye’s ears.
“You said she bought some wound medicine? And this gift,” Qin Ye spoke.
“Yes, young master. The young lady instructed us to buy these yesterday. It must be because Miss Meng heard that Mr. Qin had disciplined you with family punishment, and she feels sorry for your injuries. That’s why she specifically bought these for you. The gift box must contain something to comfort you,” the elderly servant before him explained.
“Who asked for her concern? She always takes matters into her own hands. My only sister is Qin Qing. She keeps forcing her attention on me like this – how annoying. I’ve told her long ago to stay away from me.” Qin Ye snorted coldly, his eyes filled with disgust and impatience, though his gaze unconsciously drifted toward where the wound medicine was placed.
That day, when Qin’s Father had dragged him to the study for family punishment, Su Meng – who normally would have hypocritically expressed concern and pleaded for him – hadn’t even glanced at him or said a word. She just kept her head down, watching that Ji Weichen.
For some reason, he felt uncomfortable, though he didn’t know where this discomfort came from. Later, when he learned that Su Meng hadn’t even asked about him these past two days and had been staying with that blind man named Ji Weichen the entire time, he felt even more uncomfortable.
Now this uncomfortable feeling had finally mostly dissipated.
He knew it.
That annoying woman always liked to hover around him, forcibly showing concern and being nice to him, pretending to act like a sister. She probably regretted not speaking up to plead for him that day and now wanted to buy these wound medicines and gifts for him, to apply the medicine and curry favor with him.
Qin Ye’s eyes carried a hint of disdain.
“Throw all these things away. Tell her not to bother with such efforts. If she has this kind of intention, she’d better apologize to Sister Qingqing instead…”
At this point, Qin Ye suddenly paused mid-sentence. His gaze swept across and noticed Ji Weichen sitting quietly in the corner, eyes closed, appearing very gentle and quiet. If one didn’t pay close attention, they wouldn’t even notice him.
“Hey, you don’t really think you’re important in the Qin Family, do you? This Qin Meng person is definitely just playing with you, like amusing herself with a pet. She’ll get bored after toying with you for a couple of days. Even if your eyes are blind, your ears should still work.” Qin Ye spoke, though he didn’t even know why he was saying these things to Ji Weichen.
“No matter how willful I am, how I mess with her, raise my demands, or reject her, she still exhausts herself trying to please me. As long as I’m here, she won’t pay attention to you, won’t think of you, won’t even glance at you.” Qin Ye spoke again, his tone somewhat arrogant. When he said this, he was extremely confident.
After saying these words, the discomfort and displeasure that had accumulated over the past two days completely dissipated.
Before Qin Ye could observe Ji Weichen’s reaction, shortly after his words fell, Su Meng appeared.
Su Meng’s black long hair casually draped over her shoulders. She wore only a homely beige cotton nightgown. As she came downstairs, she saw Qin Ye and Ji Weichen sitting quietly in the corner of the sofa.
She casually picked up the wound medicine and gift box from the table.”Qin Meng… I’m telling you, don’t you…” Qin Ye began speaking upon seeing Su Meng’s actions.
At the same moment Qin Ye spoke, Ji Weichen, who was sitting on the sofa, reached out and gently tugged at Su Meng’s sleeve.
“Sister…” Ji Weichen’s voice sounded childish.
“My hand hurts.”
Then, Ji Weichen felt the person before him turn to look at him.
Without the slightest hesitation, completely ignoring Qin Ye who had been speaking.
As if… at any time, he was the only choice.
“Your wound hasn’t healed yet. Take these things.” Su Meng glanced at Ji Weichen’s hand – it was so red, the scabbed area that had previously healed had split open again, oozing a bit of blood.
After saying this, she placed both the wound medicine and the gift box into Ji Weichen’s arms.
Ji Weichen’s hand slightly tightened. His originally closed eyes opened – his pupils were a brownish-green color, very beautiful and clear, though now empty and lifeless. Though he couldn’t see anything, his gaze somehow miraculously aligned with Qin Ye’s.
Like a silent display of triumph.
“Only I have these?”
“Yes, they’re all yours.” Su Meng nodded.
Qin Ye’s expression turned extremely unpleasant. He didn’t know whether it was anger at being ignored or that indescribable emotion, but he only felt empty inside. It had never been like this before – she had never ignored him, never forgotten him, always tried to please him, hoping he would call her “sister.”
Especially when he heard Ji Weichen’s words “Only I have these?”, he felt particularly stung.
“Ji Weichen, are you doing this on purpose?” Qin Ye thought of what he had just said to Ji Weichen, his eyes burning with anger as he looked at him.
Ji Weichen’s eyelashes trembled slightly, concealing all emotion in his eyes, as if somewhat frightened. He asked:
“Sister, did I… say something wrong?”
