The door was kicked open with a bang.
Under the dim, flickering light, the scene in front of her could only be described as a complete mess.
A wooden bucket had tipped over to one side. Most of the water had spilled onto the dirt floor, mixing with the soil and turning into muddy sludge.
And the man who was usually gloomy and cold, whose eyes were always as sharp as knives, was now lying in an extremely miserable state in that puddle of mud and water.
The white polyester shirt he wore hadn’t been completely taken off. Because of the fall, it now hung halfway around his arms, soaked and clinging to his body.
His trousers were also loose and disheveled, making his disabled legs look even more weak and pale.
When Lu Si heard the door open, he suddenly lifted his head.
For a moment, Su Ci was shaken by the look in his eyes.
They were bloodshot—not from crying, but from shame, anger, and a deep despair that came from having his dignity completely stripped away.
Like a lone wolf trapped in a snare, on the verge of death—still trying to tear apart anyone who came near with nothing but its gaze.
“Get… out…” he forced the two words through clenched teeth, his voice trembling. “Who told you to come in? If you don’t want to die, get out!”
If it had been the original owner of this body, she might already have been scared into tears.
If it had been another transmigrated heroine, she might have rushed over with reddened eyes and said, “I don’t mind you.”
But Su Ci was a corporate slave.
And in a corporate slave’s eyes, this was called a workplace injury accident scene.
“Get out where? If you smash your head and become stupid, the state will have to pay double compensation. What a waste of resources.”
Not only did Su Ci not leave—she stepped straight across the muddy puddle and walked over to him.
Lu Si tried to push himself up with his arms. But his legs had no strength at all. On the wet muddy floor he slipped several times, falling even harder, splashing mud onto his pale but handsome face.
“Stop moving!”
Su Ci couldn’t stand watching anymore. This was her top-tier golden ticket… ahem, her top-tier provider.
Without another word, she bent down. One arm slipped under his armpits, the other under the bend of his knees.
“Up!”
Su Ci took a deep breath and gathered her strength.
The strength she had trained from moving apartments herself in order to save moving fees in her previous life—combined with a little mischievous curiosity—actually created a miracle.
Lu Si suddenly felt his body become weightless as the world spun around him.
By the time he reacted, he had already been lifted completely into the air by Su Ci.
And she was carrying him in a princess carry.
He was a man over six feet tall, the commander of a reconnaissance regiment—
And he was being princess-carried by a little girl?!
“Su—Ci!” Lu Si’s head buzzed. “Put me down!”
“Be quiet. You’re as heavy as a dead pig, and you’re still struggling,” Su Ci said, frowning slightly as her breathing grew a bit heavier from the effort. “If I drop you again, I won’t have the strength to pick you up a second time.”
Because of the position, Lu Si had no choice but to lean against Su Ci’s chest.
Through the soaked fabric he could feel the warmth of her body, along with a faint scent of soap pods drifting into his nose.
And the most dangerous part—
As Su Ci walked toward the bed, afraid she might lose her grip, the hand supporting his upper body tightened unconsciously.
Coincidentally, it landed directly on his abdomen.
She did it on purpose, didn’t she?
The soaked shirt offered no barrier at all.
Under her palm, the sensation was firm, warm, and clearly defined.
Su Ci not only didn’t move her hand away—
She subconsciously gave it a squeeze.
Soldiers really were different, huh. This kind of firmness!
Much better than those gym trainers from her previous life who only lived on protein powder.
So this was the legendary eight-pack abs?
Su Ci’s eyes brightened. As a practical person who believed that “as long as the money’s good, even the King of Hell can be sweet-talked,” she felt this workplace rescue operation was totally worth it.
“Nice feel, Commander Lu,” she thought to herself—but somehow the words slipped out of her mouth.
“Who would’ve thought? You look thin in clothes, but you’re the type who’s slim when dressed and muscular when undressed.”
Boom—
Lu Si felt something explode inside his brain.
His face turned red instantly, along with his neck and ears.
This woman! This shameless woman!
What was she doing? Was she flirting with him?!
“Y-you… hooligan!” Lu Si gritted his teeth, mortified.
Su Ci tossed him onto the bed (a little roughly, though she avoided his injured legs) and pulled a blanket over his messy body.
Standing over him, she shook the water from her hands.
“Lu Si, let’s be reasonable. I rescued you, used a lot of strength to carry you up here, didn’t complain about you being dirty or heavy—and somehow I’m the hooligan?”
Her logic was flawless.
Hands on her hips, she declared confidently:
“Besides, we’re legally married. I have a marriage certificate. What’s wrong with touching you a couple of times? That’s a right granted to me by law. If you feel like you lost out, fine—when your legs recover, you can carry me once. I promise I won’t call you a hooligan.”
Lu Si stared at her.
He wanted to argue. Wanted to curse.
But when he met Su Ci’s clear and straightforward eyes—eyes that held no malicious intent, only a pure appreciation of a good-looking body—he suddenly couldn’t say a single word.
Before, whenever people looked at him, their gazes were full of pity, schadenfreude, or careful sympathy.
No one had ever treated him like Su Ci did—moving him around like an object and casually commenting on him, never once treating him like a useless cripple.
“Alright, stop acting like some virtuous widower,” Su Ci said.
She glanced at the mess on the floor and sighed.
“Hurry up and take off those wet clothes. I’ll find you something dry. If you catch a fever tonight and I have to take care of you all night long, that’ll cost extra.”
Then she turned toward the wardrobe to look for clothes.
Lu Si lay wrapped in the blanket, listening to her constant muttering.
He could still feel the lingering tingling sensation where her hand had touched his waist and stomach.
His heart pounded violently.
Not from anger.
But from a long-forgotten feeling—something vivid and alive—that made his whole body tremble with shame and… a strange flutter.
This woman was practically a demon sent by heaven specifically to torment him.
