On the edge of a steep cliff, a woman in a long dress stared pale-faced at the group of people slowly closing in on her.
“Don’t come any closer! If you do, I’ll jump!” Despair filled her pale face.
The group only sneered more at her words.
“Then jump. That’ll save us the trouble of having to do it ourselves in a minute.” The man at their head, a sinister-looking fellow with a jagged scar across his face, watched her coldly.
At his words, the woman trembled violently.
She clutched her filthy, hopelessly disheveled dress with both hands. Her face was wan, streaked with tears. It was obvious that something terrible had happened to her not long ago.
When she saw the others move closer, she hurriedly backed up to the cliff’s edge. She turned to look down, and her face went even paler.
Her luck was terrible. There was no water below the cliff—only an unfathomable abyss.
Scarface savored the fear on her face as he leisurely led his men closer.
He loved the panicked, helpless look on her face.
As the group drew nearer, the woman glanced once more into the abyss.
At last, she seemed to make up her mind.
She slowly wiped the tears from her face with her filthy sleeve. The panic in her eyes gradually gave way to calm.
As if he knew what she was about to do, Scarface’s expression changed and he lunged toward her.
But he was a step too late.
The woman gave him a cold smile, then turned and jumped off the cliff behind her.
As she fell, she shouted, “Chi Yan, may you die a horrible death!”
Watching her disappear over the edge, Scarface spat toward the bottom of the cliff.
“Boss, what do we do? Jing Mo’s definitely dead after jumping from that height.” One of the men behind Scarface glanced over the edge, his hair standing on end.
“Yeah, boss. If Jing Mo’s dead, will Young Master Yan blame us?” another man asked hesitantly.
“Young Master Yan only told us to torment her. He never said to drive her to her death.”
Scarface’s expression grew increasingly impatient as he listened to his men.
How was he supposed to know Jing Mo would manage to escape?
And now she’d jumped off a cliff. A delicate young lady like her couldn’t possibly survive a fall from that height.
“Relax. Young Master Yan was willing to have his own wife tortured, so he clearly doesn’t care whether Jing Mo lives or dies. If she’s dead, she’s dead. Maybe Young Master Yan will pay us even more.” Scarface waved a hand, unconcerned.
“Still…” Scarface paused.
His men tensed at once. “What is it, boss?”
Scarface’s mouth twisted into a scornful smile.
“Still, we’ll never come across another woman as gorgeous as her.”
At his words, the others laughed too.
“Yeah. A woman that beautiful, with a figure like that—she was a real stunner. What a waste,” one of them said, looking genuinely regretful.
At last, they peered over the cliff a few more times and then left.
“And so Jing Mo, the vicious supporting female character who had committed countless evil deeds, was written out of the story…”
When she finished reading the line, Jing Mo clicked her tongue and tossed her phone onto the bed.
Earlier that day, while she was drinking in a private room at a bar, her best friend had suddenly leaned over and handed her a phone.
“Momo, this novel’s been really popular lately. The female supporting character has the same name as you!” her friend said, pointing at the text on the screen.
Jing Mo glanced at Don’t Fall for Me, Dominant CEO.
Tsk. Just from the title, it sounded like a ridiculous melodrama.
“Seriously, Momo, you should read it. It’s been a huge hit lately. I’m reading it too,” her friend said with a grin.
Jing Mo wasn’t especially interested in novels, least of all romance stories like this.
Still, her friend’s comment had piqued her curiosity. She wanted to know how the character who shared her name ended up.
So, after she got home, Jing Mo settled in with her phone and started reading Don’t Fall for Me, Dominant CEO.
The character in the book who shared her name wasn’t the heroine. Jing Mo was a supporting character—and a vicious one at that.
She loved the male lead but couldn’t have him, so her love turned to hatred. She hurt the heroine to get revenge on him, and in the end, she managed to get herself killed.
Even though the vicious supporting character had the same name as her, Jing Mo rather liked how she ended up. If you did something wrong, you deserved to be punished, didn’t you?
“The supporting character got what she deserved. Why’d she have to do so many awful things? She was downright vicious! No wonder the male lead treated her that way. She went after the person he loved most,” Jing Mo sighed.
“But she was just too stupid. If it were me, I’d definitely win the male lead over. Why use those kinds of methods? I could make him love me so much he’d go crazy.” Jing Mo paused, then continued.
Jing Mo was a real heartbreaker. She knew exactly how to handle every kind of guy: the sweet, puppy-dog type, the wild, wolfish type, even the silly, puppy-dog type.
With a male lead like the one in the book, the supporting character had simply used the wrong approach. With her looks and figure, she could have had him wrapped around her little finger.
Whatever. It was just a book—why was she taking it so seriously? Jing Mo shook her head. It was already late, so she decided to finish the novel tomorrow. She had to admit, it was actually pretty good.
Even though the vicious supporting character in the book was dead, Jing Mo still wanted to know what happened next. The romantic push and pull between the male and female leads was pretty captivating.
But first, she needed to take a shower. She’d gotten so absorbed in reading that she hadn’t realized how late it was. She’d gone clubbing with her friends that night and had come home late. Unable to sleep, she’d decided to read a novel, only to look up and realize how late it had gotten.
Luckily, she didn’t have to work tomorrow or get up early.
Jing Mo was a self-media creator, so her schedule was fairly flexible. She didn’t earn a lot, but she made enough to drink, go clubbing, and flirt with handsome guys.
After her shower, Jing Mo climbed into bed, added the unfinished novel to her bookshelf, then turned off the light and went to sleep.
She fell asleep quickly.
She was sleeping so soundly that she didn’t notice the phone she had tossed onto the table suddenly flashing wildly several times, emitting an eerie light…
The next morning, someone called Jing Mo awake.
“Madam, it’s time to get up.”
Jing Mo felt as if someone were buzzing incessantly in her ear. It was so annoying.
Irritated, she rolled over and went back to sleep.
But the next instant, Jing Mo jolted awake. The moment she opened her eyes, she saw an unfamiliar face.
“Ah! Who are you?” Jing Mo screamed in terror.
Wait, she lived alone. Why was there someone else in her bedroom?
A burglar?
Jing Mo looked the person over. She was a middle-aged woman wearing a uniform.
Jing Mo was a little surprised. Did burglars wear uniforms to work now?
But she soon realized something was wrong.
Why did her voice sound so strange?
It didn’t sound like this!
Jing Mo abruptly sat up in bed. The unfamiliar decor of the bedroom before her left her frozen in place.
Jing Mo’s string of reactions left Madam Wang at a loss.
