“Aunt Shen, please don’t tell the people in the village about this matter.”
Shen Xiulan gave Wen Fufu a reassuring look. Her family had never been the type to gossip.
“Aunt Shen won’t say anything about this. You can stay here and focus on taking care of your pregnancy.”
After receiving the assurance she wanted, Wen Fufu touched her belly. Now she could give birth here openly and without worry.
Xiao Tingting was angry about what had happened to Fufu-jie, but she was also very curious about the baby inside her belly. She quietly stretched out her hand, wanting to touch it. Before she could, Shen Xiulan slapped her hand away.
“What are you trying to do? Right now Little Fu is the key person under our family’s protection. You can’t act however you like like usual.”
“Mom, hit lighter next time. I just wanted to touch it,” Xiao Tingting complained softly while rubbing her stinging hand.
Wen Fufu took Xiao Tingting’s hand and placed it over her stomach.
“Aunt Shen, I’m very healthy, it’s fine. Tingting, the pregnancy isn’t far enough along yet. Even if you touch it, you’ll only feel a bit of flesh.”
“That’s fine, that’s fine. I just want to touch it.”
Xiao Tingting’s palm rested against the stomach through the clothing. Even though she could not feel anything yet, it was as if the little life inside was greeting her. She began to smile to herself.
“This baby will definitely be very cute.”
Shen Xiulan also felt tempted. She joined her daughter in touching Wen Fufu’s belly, occasionally pouring out all her experience about childbirth to Wen Fufu.
Xiao Zhengshan also wanted to take a look. Although he had long treated Wen Fufu as his own child, he was still a man and felt awkward approaching. So he could only stand to the side and watch. In his mind, he had already begun imagining a delicate little child calling him grandpa in the future.
At ten o’clock that night, Wen Fufu started to feel tired. Shen Xiulan felt sorry for her and urged her to go upstairs to sleep.
“Pregnant women shouldn’t overexert themselves. Go get some rest.”
Wen Fufu truly was tired, so she obediently went upstairs.
Later that night, Xiao Tingting hugged a pillow and ran to Wen Fufu’s room. She knocked on the door.
“Fufu-jie, can we sleep together tonight?”
Wen Fufu was making the bed. When she heard the request, she replied, “Of course. It’s been a long time since we slept together.”
Back when they used to study together, they often slept in the same bed and talked about little girls’ secrets.
Xiao Tingting happily closed the door, kicked off her slippers, and climbed into bed.
“Fufu-jie, you sleep on the inside and I’ll sleep on the outside. That way I can protect you from falling off the bed.”
“Alright,” Wen Fufu said. She didn’t mind which side she slept on.
Xiao Tingting placed the pillow under her head and covered herself with the blanket. After Wen Fufu turned off the light, she lay down beside her.
In the darkness, Xiao Tingting suddenly asked, “Fufu-jie, he betrayed you. You must have been very heartbroken, right?”
Wen Fufu was stunned. She hadn’t expected Xiao Tingting to ask that.
After thinking for a moment, she slowly said, “At the beginning I was sad. But not anymore. From the moment he fell in love with someone else, I stopped liking him.”
Wen Fufu had never been in a relationship before. Everything she said came from conclusions she had drawn from watching television dramas.
“Scumbag! If I ever meet him, I’ll put a sack over his head and beat him until his face is bruised and swollen so he regrets everything he did,” Xiao Tingting said angrily, punching the air a few times.
“Pfft.” Wen Fufu couldn’t help laughing.
The thought of the high-and-mighty male protagonist being beaten until his face was swollen and then kneeling in front of her begging for mercy made her feel amused.
She quickly came back to her senses.
What was she thinking?
She hurriedly pushed those unrealistic thoughts out of her mind.
“Fufu-jie, what are you laughing at? I’m serious.”
“Mm, I believe you.”
“But Fufu-jie… I feel like you’re a little different from before.”
Wen Fufu asked nervously, “What’s different?”
Xiao Tingting tilted her head and thought for a while.
“Hmm… before you seemed more energetic, more… real. But actually, I like the you now even more.”
What Wen Fufu didn’t know was that the original owner of this body had matured early because of family circumstances. She had been independent and found it difficult to get close to others. Only when she was with Xiao Tingting’s family did she show a different side.
Wen Fufu quietly breathed a sigh of relief. She had thought Xiao Tingting had discovered something.
“Tingting, people always change. After experiencing all of this, I feel that people shouldn’t push themselves too hard in life. Living in the present and feeling comfortable is what matters most.”
“I think so too. Fufu-jie, let’s live comfortably and happily together.”
“Mm. It’s late. Let’s sleep.”
The next morning, after Wen Fufu finished breakfast at Shen Xiulan’s house, three little “tails” followed behind her.
The reason was simple. When she said she wanted to return home to clean up, Shen Xiulan’s family had immediately insisted on going with her to help.
Wen Fufu was now a pregnant woman. How could they allow her to clean such a big house alone? If she accidentally bumped into something and affected the baby, what would they do?
Knowing she couldn’t refuse them, Wen Fufu could only let them accompany her home.
Following the memories in her mind, Wen Fufu arrived at a small courtyard. It was an old house built with blue bricks.
The original owner’s grandfather had been a teacher when he was young. His tastes were different from others. While most people preferred building Western-style houses or small villas, he loved ancient-style architecture. Therefore the house looked somewhat like those from ancient times. It was said that the house had been personally designed by the grandfather.
Wen Fufu also loved traditional architecture and liked this courtyard very much.
She pushed open the old wooden gate.
Inside was a square corridor surrounding an open courtyard. In the center of the yard were several potted plants, but unfortunately they had withered because no one had taken care of them for a long time.
At the end of the corridor stood a two-story house. That was the living area.
After placing down her suitcase, Wen Fufu took out the key she had been carrying with her, unlocked the door, and pushed open the two wooden panels.
Dust and the smell of aged wood filled the air.
She waved her hand in front of her nose before finally seeing the interior clearly. The house had a very traditional Chinese style—simple furnishings, yet warmth seemed to fill every corner.
Wen Fufu relaxed completely. Lowering her head, she touched her belly and said softly,
“From now on, this will be our home.”
“If I had known you were coming back, I would have come earlier to help you clean,” Shen Xiulan said as she wiped a chair, only to see it covered in dust.
“Aunt Shen, I can’t keep troubling you. Let’s just do a simple cleaning for now. I still have plenty of time later. The weeds in the yard can be removed slowly, there’s no rush.”
“It’s fine. We don’t have anything important today anyway. I’ll only feel relieved after helping you clean,” Shen Xiulan said. “Your Uncle Xiao and I will clean the living room. You and Tingting clean the bedrooms.”
Since it had already been decided, Wen Fufu stopped refusing.
“Alright. I’ll clean quickly so I can come out and help you later.”
The living room was bigger than the bedrooms, and the furniture also needed to be cleaned. It would definitely take quite a bit of time.
“It’s fine. You two take your time. Tingting, keep an eye on your Fufu-jie.”
“Mom, with me here, you don’t need to worry!”
