Not two.

This time it was several.

Zhao Cheng didn’t move at first, but the air around him changed-like something inside him had clicked into place.

“Inside,” he said again.

This time, sharper.

Zhao Jun grabbed Zhao An immediately and pulled him back toward the house.

Zhao Mei hesitated for half a second, then followed.

Lin Shu didn’t move.

Zhao Cheng noticed.

His gaze flicked over.

“One more time,” he said quietly.

“Inside.”

Lin Shu swallowed.

Then shook his head.

“I can’t just watch from there.”

A pause.

The kind of pause where decisions are made without words.

Zhao Cheng stared at him for a long moment.

Then said flatly, “Then don’t get in the way.”

The carts arrived.

Seven men this time.

Not villagers pretending to be polite-these were hired enforcers.

Rough cloth, heavy boots, weapons openly visible.

The leader jumped down first, cracking his neck.

“Well, well,” he said loudly.

“Still alive, Zhao Cheng?”

Zhao Cheng didn’t respond.

The man grinned.

“We gave you time. You wasted it.”

He glanced at the gate.

“Ten bags of grain. Or we start taking what we like.”

His eyes shifted meaningfully toward the house.

Zhao Jun, watching from inside, trembled with rage.

Lin Shu felt it too.

This wasn’t just debt anymore.

This was extortion disguised as law.

Zhao Cheng finally spoke.

“You brought too many people for grain.”

The leader laughed.

“Smart man. You understand then.”

A long silence.

Then Zhao Cheng stepped forward.

Just one step.

But it changed everything.

“The grain is not here,” Zhao Cheng said.

The leader frowned.

“Lying won’t save you.”

“It’s not a lie,” Zhao Cheng replied calmly.

“It’s already been moved.”

For the first time, the leader looked uncertain.

“…Moved where?”

Zhao Cheng didn’t answer.

Instead, he slowly rolled up his sleeves.

Lin Shu’s stomach tightened.

Something was about to break.

The leader’s patience snapped.

“Search the house!”

The enforcers moved instantly.

Zhao Jun rushed forward from inside-

But Zhao Mei grabbed him.

“Don’t!”

Too late.

One of the men kicked the gate open.

Wood splintered loudly.

The sound echoed like a crack in the world itself.

Lin Shu reacted before thinking.

He stepped forward.

“Stop!”

Everyone turned.

Even Zhao Cheng glanced at him sharply.

Lin Shu stood in front of the doorway.

His heart was pounding.

But he didn’t move.

“You don’t have legal permission to enter,” he said quickly, surprising even himself.

“This is private property.”

The enforcer leading them laughed.

“Legal permission?”

He stepped closer.

“Boy, we are the law.”

Lin Shu didn’t back down.

Not this time.

“I don’t care what you think you are,” he said, voice shaking slightly but firm.

“You can’t just-”

A sudden movement.

The man grabbed his collar.

Lifting him slightly.

Zhao Jun screamed from inside.

“Let him go!”

Zhao Cheng moved.

Fast.

Too fast.

One moment he was still standing near the gate.

The next-

CRACK.

The enforcer who grabbed Lin Shu was suddenly on the ground.

Zhao Cheng stood over him, expression unchanged.

But his eyes…

were different now.

Not cold.

Not calm.

Sharp enough to cut.

“Touch him again,” Zhao Cheng said quietly, “and you lose the hand you used.”

Silence.

Even the leader stopped smiling.

Lin Shu staggered back, coughing, shocked.

He hadn’t even seen what happened clearly.

Zhao Cheng turned slightly toward him.

“Did I not tell you,” he said lowly, “not to get in the way?”

Lin Shu wiped his collar, still shaken.

“I wasn’t in the way,” he said quietly.

“I was stopping them from entering.”

Zhao Cheng stared at him.

A long moment passed.

Then-

A sound from behind.

A whistle.

The leader raised his hand.

“Enough games.”

More men stepped forward.

Weapons drawn.

The air tightened instantly.

Zhao Cheng exhaled slowly.

Then said something that made everyone freeze.

“Lin Shu.”

Lin Shu looked up.

Zhao Cheng didn’t turn to him.

But his voice dropped lower.

“If I tell you to run…”

A pause.

“…don’t argue this time.”

Lin Shu’s breath caught.

For the first time since arriving in this world-

Zhao Cheng wasn’t evaluating him.

He was preparing for something that might not be survivable.

And the gate behind them…

finally broke completely.
