Since Li Yun had put it that way, Irons had little else to say.

Being interrupted so abruptly did sting his pride, but there was no point making an issue of it now.

Chris, show Captain Li Yun and Sergeant Natasha around the station.

Don’t neglect our guests.

Understood?” Irons looked toward Chris.

He knew exactly how headstrong this kid could be and could only hope he would not screw anything up.

“Yes, sir!” Chris immediately saluted.

Still uneasy about leaving Chris alone with them, Irons called Jill’s name as well.

“Jill, you go too.

One escort for each guest.

That’s your assignment for the afternoon.”

Jill had no objection.

Irons then dismissed the others and sent everyone back to their posts to continue the day’s work.

“Mayor Warren, why don’t we sit down in my office?

There are a few recent matters I’d like to discuss with you.” Irons proposed moving upstairs, and Warren did not object.

Before going up, however, Warren turned to Li Yun and Natasha.

“Take a good look around the Raccoon City Police Department.

If you have any suggestions afterward, please tell me.

Strengthening Raccoon City’s defenses has always been one of my highest priorities.”

“Understood, Mayor Warren.

You go ahead with Chief Irons.

If I notice anything—or anything I can personally help with—I’ll let you know.”

Warren smiled at his answer, then followed Irons toward the chief’s office.

Chris and Jill led Li Yun and Natasha into the station for the tour.

In truth, the station did not have that many areas worth visiting.

Once they excluded the places there was no reason to see, the four of them finished touring the building fairly quickly.

The last stop was the station’s regular training area.

Li Yun checked the weapons stored there.

This place really was unlike an ordinary police station; it even had serious heavy firepower available.

If the later outbreak in Raccoon City had not become so absurd—and if Umbrella had not deployed additional B.O.W.s—the personnel here should have been capable of dealing with any ordinary riot.

“Let’s see you shoot.” Li Yun gestured for Chris to demonstrate his skill.

Chris looked a little puzzled but obediently stepped to the firing line, loaded quickly, disengaged the safety, and fired five rounds.

His accuracy was excellent.

Li Yun smiled, walked up behind him, and adjusted his shooting posture.

Then he had Chris try again.

This time, the stance worked a little better.

He could feel that the new posture was slightly more comfortable than before.

His accuracy had not improved by much, but if he needed to maintain a firing stance for an extended period, this one was unquestionably better.

“Over a short engagement, you chase precision.

Over a long one, it turns into a contest of endurance.

Adapt to the situation.

Chris, were you in the military?” Li Yun began chatting with him casually.

Moments this relaxed had become rare.

“I served in the U.S.

Air Force!” Chris immediately brightened, only for Jill beside him to expose the less glorious part of the story.

“Until he talked back to his superior and got out.

That’s how he is whenever he sees something he can’t stand.

Even Chief Irons has had more than enough of his temper.”

Li Yun and Natasha laughed, and Chris scratched his head before laughing along with them.

He knew his own temperament better than anyone.

He simply could not help sticking his nose into things he thought were wrong.

That was the sense of justice one expected from a hot-blooded young man.

“Nothing wrong with that.

A man should have some backbone.

I have a feeling you’re going to become one hell of a soldier someday, Chris.” Li Yun made no secret of how highly he regarded him, and the praise immediately fired Chris up.

This was praise from one of CT’s finest young soldiers.

Chris practically felt dizzy with happiness.

Li Yun had been looking at Chris and Jill as heroes of the future.

What he did not realize was that Chris and Jill were looking at him as a hero of the present.

Even before the battle for Zeta City, Li Yun had already served with CT for more than three years.

During that time, he had taken part in numerous counterterror operations and built a reputation for himself.

Zeta City had merely added another brilliant line to an already impressive record.

Neither of these young officers—nor Natasha beside Li Yun—yet realized that the future world was about to acquire an entirely new kind of war.

They still believed the world would continue much as it always had.

At that point, Chris finally gave in to his curiosity.

“Captain Li Yun…

do zombies really exist?”

Li Yun narrowed his eyes and thought for a moment.

Of course.

Raccoon City was only a few hours’ drive from Zeta City.

The first wave of refugees might already have reached the area.

“Zombies are about the lowest-grade biological threat there is.

You can barely even call them B.O.W.s.

The problem is that when they appear, they usually appear in packs.

If you don’t have enough firepower, my advice is to go around them instead of picking a fight.”

Li Yun had no objection to teaching the two of them a little about such things.

The sooner Chris and Jill gained some practical knowledge, the more it could help them later.

At Li Yun’s words, both Chris and Jill went slightly pale.

They recovered quickly, however.

It was not as though they were going to encounter monsters like that themselves.

They might go their entire lives without seeing one.

There was no need to worry yet.

“Don’t assume this has nothing to do with you.

Once things like this appear, even if CT contains the Zeta City incident, biological weapons have already stepped onto the world stage and entered the public consciousness.

You’re police officers.

Sooner or later, you’re going to fight enemies like these.

The smart thing is to prepare yourselves now.”

Li Yun’s words struck both of them with brutal directness.

Even Natasha beside him went pale.

What he had just said amounted to a declaration that Zeta City was not the end at all.

It was only the beginning.

“Be ready, Chris.

Jill.

One day we might even end up fighting side by side.

Tell your friends and your families to stay alert for this kind of threat too.”

Li Yun wanted as many people as possible to understand the danger of biological weapons.

He could not warn the entire world alone, so the best he could do was convince more people to spread the warning themselves.

“I’ve already fought two mutated forms of zombie.

There may be more variants in the future—and stronger ones.” As he finished speaking, Li Yun picked up the handgun Chris had used and fired the remaining rounds at the distant target.

There were only two shots left, but both struck dead center.

“Remember this: if you run into zombies, blow their heads apart.

The same principle applies to other B.O.W.s.

Protect yourself from infection, identify the enemy’s weakness, and when an opening appears, kill it in one decisive strike.

Understood?”

Chris and Jill immediately straightened and saluted.

It was, in a sense, a senior soldier passing experience down to two juniors—and both of them now believed that experience would prove useful one day.
