’Not much has changed...’
As soon as Lazarus settled into his room and looked around, he felt a wave of nostalgia assail him. He recalled pieces of memories from his past life.
Just like before, he ended up in this wing.
Students were separated to different dormitories that occupied respective wings in the Middle Court of the Dark Moon Academy. The South Wing belonged to the untalented students of Class D, the West Wing was occupied by the moderately talented ones in Class C, the East Wing held those in Class B, and the North Wing solely belonged to the greatest talents in Class A.
Lazarus was currently in the East Wing, all thanks to his Class B status.
’I should thank myself for being so reckless and having a Sub-Integration of 5, else I would have to start from the very bottom.’ He subconsciously thought with a grin.
Different wings had their perks, which served to motivate students to rise up the ranks.
As for those who already occupied higher positions, they wouldn’t want to lose their privileges, so they would naturally try their best to maintain their placement.
This was the way of the Academy.
’It fosters competition and encourages change...’ Lazarus nodded at this and held no qualms with the current system. ’If the students become comfortable, how would they be moved to improve? In fact, this inequality is one of the best aspects of the Academy. It’s just a shame that there no longer exists any process of elimination.’
If the Academy had continued the policy that existed in his past life, students would be even more motivated to advance towards a better class.
After all, anyone who remained in Class D would not make it to the Second Year.
’I still need to understand the current situation in order to justify this change,’ Lazarus sat on his comfortable bed and observed his moderately large and quiet bedroom.
He had a separate parlor, as well as a small kitchen, a bathroom separate from the toilet, and a private study. There existed a moderately sized bookshelf within the study, and it also had a special area that could be used for rituals or meditation.
All of these were excellent facilities for Squires who desired to advance from the comfort of their rooms. The South and West Wings didn’t have all of these luxuries in their quarters, so students in Class D and Class C had to use public facilities instead.
This was one of the perks that being in a better class provided a student.
’Naturally, those in the North Wing enjoy a much larger space and much better facilities. They also have access to customization and can request additional resources.’ Lazarus sighed in deep recollection. ’I never reached Class A until the Third Year in my last life, so I missed out on so much back then.’
This time would be different for sure!
He would use his private study to the maximum capacity. Even if it didn’t have all the materials he wanted, he could always borrow books from the Academy Library while diligently practicing with every free time he got.
Of course, he would also utilize the advantage of his Secluded Domain.
’My progress is practically guaranteed...’
Even though he had this thought, Lazarus’s smile didn’t improve. Instead, his expression continued to darken, especially after he considered the other students.
’I can’t be satisfied with my progress alone.’
Since the Academy was lowering its standards, that meant the Historian Association needed more members. Naturally, the more capable, the better.
However, at this rate, most of the graduates would be mediocre at best.
This was the side-effect of cuddling so many untalented students until they barely made it to Scholar Rank. It was why this method was never practiced in Lazarus’ past life, even if it would objectively yield more Historians.
’I need to ensure that, during my stay in the Academy at the very least, the Historians that are produced are of the best quality.’
This was yet another goal he added to his current list.
Naturally, his most important objective was finding out why and how he reincarnated.
The second most important one involved reaching Legendary Rank at the very least, and even possibly surpassing that achievement.
His third mission was finding out what truly happened to the deceased parents of the present Lazarus, since there were a lot of suspicious elements about the matter that didn’t sit well with this old legend.
Now, he had added another task to these three.
’I will raise these Squires to become the best Scholars this Academy has seen in a while!’
All of these were ambitious projects that the current Lazarus held no chance of fulfilling, but he wasn’t impatient about the matter. As long as he planned properly and took things one step at a time, he had some confidence in accomplishing at least fifty percent of his goals.
’If a man does not have high ambitions in his heart, how can he look forward to living?’ Lazarus solemnly smiled as he recalled these words said to him by his old teacher.
His lifetime mentor.
—Zurbluris.
’He achieved Mythic Rank and set his eyes on the Timeless status. It’s too bad he perished during the Apocalypse. Maybe he would have been able to reach that level...’
Lazarus shifted his thoughts to the old man’s descendant.
’This Zurbluris is quite arrogant. He must have had a privileged upbringing due to the status of his family. In addition, due to the Genetic Principles, his talent is also amazing—at a starting Integration of 8 Percent. Out of everyone in this set, he is the second most talented.’
The Genetic Principles were long-established since the early period of the Seventh Aeon.
Essentially, if a Historian were to copulate with another Historian and have an offspring, such an offspring would undoubtedly have the potential to be a Historian as well.
The higher the achievement of the parents, the greater the talent of the offspring.
This was basically standing on the shoulder of giants.
As long as one’s predecessors reached a high status as a Historian, the descendant’s future was bright. Naturally, the opposite was also true. Weak Historians birthed untalented descendants, as could be seen with the current Lazarus’ parents.
This was why bloodline was important in this era, and also why Historian Households held so much prestige.
The Zurbluris Family was just one of many.
However, compared to most Historian Households, Zurbluris had a foundation that stemmed from before the Apocalypse. It even had a Mythical Historian at some point. This fact made the Zurbluris family’s status skyrocket.
After all, such a great achievement often repeat itself if there was a strong precedent.
There was a high chance that the Zurbluris Family would birth another Mythic Historian.
Even with all of this said, it wasn’t an ironclad rule that powerful Historians had to emerge from Historian Families, or that all talented Historians had Historian parents.
’In my past life, I was one of such cases... None of my parents were Historians.’
The same case applied to the most talented person in this batch.
She was the third person who sat in the front row seat, having long white hair and pitch black eyes that seemed to lead to the abyss. The young lady had a cold and detached attitude despite her superiority over all the other students.
Despite how rare it was for someone with a non-Historian heritage to be so talented, she achieved an unexpected Integration result of 9 Percent!
’I believe her name is Nyssa...’
