Claire Wilson's heart was still pounding with excitement when she left the Wilson family's workplace. Granny would formally announce her new position tomorrow. Finally, she could hold her head up high!
She looked at Charlie Wade and said happily, “Charlie Wade, thank you! If it weren't for your support, I wouldn't have dared to step forward and accept the challenge.”
Charlie smiled. “Darling, you deserve this.”
He turned his head away for a moment before looking back at her. “Oh, yes! This is such a wonderful and happy occasion. Let's celebrate, shall we?”
Claire nodded. “How do you want to celebrate?”
“Our third wedding anniversary is just around the corner. Let's celebrate it together! I'll arrange everything. You just need to relax and enjoy yourself.”
Claire stared at him in surprise. “Are you planning to surprise me?”
“Yes!” Charlie replied with a laugh. “I'm going to give you a surprise!”
Claire felt a warm sensation spread through her heart.
“Okay, then. I won't ask you for any details.”
“You don't need to. Just wait and see!”
Charlie already had several plans in mind for their special wedding anniversary.
Previously, money had been the main problem. He had been extremely poor and couldn't afford to buy his wife any gifts. In fact, he couldn't even afford to give her a proper wedding ceremony.
Now that he had money, he wanted to make up for everything and give her the anniversary she deserved.
After parting ways with his wife, Charlie went alone to a jewelry store called Emerald Court in downtown Aurouss Hilll. Before heading to the best hotel in town to book a venue for their belated wedding celebration, he wanted to buy a gift for his wife.
When he walked into the store, the sales staff barely paid any attention to him. He was wearing four-striped sneakers that were obviously counterfeit Adidas.
Charlie didn't mind. He looked around by himself for a while until he noticed a jade pendant displayed inside a glass cabinet.
It was extremely elegant and exquisite—perfect for Claire.
He called one of the salespeople over.
“Excuse me. Could you take this necklace out? I'd like to have a look at it.”
The man glanced at him indifferently.
“I don't have the key. It's with our manager.”
He then spoke into the intercom.
“Miss Wolfe, there's a customer here who wants to see our most valuable piece.”
Soon, an extremely attractive woman wearing heavy makeup hurried into the store. Her name was Jane Wolfe, and she was the store's sales manager.
“Which distinguished customer wants to see our treasured collection?”
The employee pointed toward Charlie.
“This gentleman here.”
Jane turned her gaze toward Charlie and immediately made a disgusted face, as if she had just bitten into something unpleasant.
How could this poor loser possibly afford the store's most valuable piece?
She turned to the male salesperson.
“Hey, Gill, are you joking with me?”
“No, it's true. This gentleman wants to see the necklace.”
Jane sneered.
“Are you seriously telling me that this loser can afford that necklace? Are you blind? If you are, tell me now so I can fire you and stop wasting my time!”
She could tell at a glance what kind of person Charlie was and immediately judged his purchasing power. In her eyes, he was nothing more than a poor loser.
The male salesperson remained silent.
Charlie frowned and asked, “You opened this store to do business, didn't you? I want to see the necklace. What's the problem?”
Jane sneered contemptuously.
“Yes, we opened our doors for business, but we don't do business with mentally deficient people. You can't afford it, so just leave.”
The frown on Charlie's forehead deepened.
“How do you know I can't afford it? Which of your eyes did you use to judge me?”
Jane mocked him.
“This jade necklace is worth tens of millions of dollars. You want me to take it out just so you can take a picture and post it on Instagram to show off, don't you?”
She crossed her arms over her chest and stood there arrogantly, looking down at him.
Several other customers were browsing the store. When they heard the necklace's price, they were shocked. They began whispering among themselves and pointing at Charlie.
“That guy is ridiculous. Why does he want to see it when he clearly can't afford it?”
“Exactly. Didn't he look in the mirror before leaving home? How could someone dressed like that possibly afford such a beautiful and valuable piece of jewelry?”
“People like him are everywhere these days.”
Charlie glanced coldly at Jane. She stared back at him with a mocking smile.
He decided to teach this ignorant woman a lesson.
He took out his phone and dialed Stephen's number.
“I want you to prepare thirteen million dollars in cash and bring it to Emerald Court within ten minutes.”
“Okay, Young Master. I'll be there right away.”
The corner of Jane's lips twitched as she sneered.
“Wow, you're really committed to your act. I'm impressed! Thirteen million dollars in cash? I've never seen that much money in my entire life. I hope you'll let me open my eyes today!”
Charlie replied expressionlessly, “Since you've never seen it before, you'll see it soon enough.”
The mocking voices immediately filled the store.
“It's okay to be poor. Just don't be so arrogant.”
“Haha! This guy doesn't look rich at all. Thirteen million? If he can even produce thirteen thousand dollars, I'll call him Dad!”
“Well, I'm curious to see what thirteen million dollars in cash actually looks like!”
Listening to everyone taking her side, Jane smiled smugly. She couldn't wait to see how this poor loser would react when the money failed to appear.
A few minutes later, several Rolls-Royces suddenly pulled up in front of Emerald Court.
The men inside carried black leather briefcases. They were muscular, their expressions stern, and an intimidating, cold aura radiated from them.
Everyone inside Emerald Court was stunned by the sight.
