Charlie slowly rose to his feet as everyone stared at him in disbelief.
In an instant, the attention of the entire banquet hall turned toward him.
“Charlie, what are you doing? Sit down!” Elaine screamed in panic.
Didn't he realize where he was?
None of the important figures in the room had dared to stand up at a moment like this. Yet this useless son-in-law was trying to steal the spotlight!
Gerald and Kevin exchanged glances and whispered, “Damn, is he actually the chairman of the Emgrand Group?”
A moment later, they both shook their heads firmly.

If Charlie really were the chairman, how could his own mother-in-law treat him like this?
“Loser, what do you think you're doing? Sit down!” Harold shouted angrily from the stage.
Charlie glanced at him coldly.
How could a useless son-in-law like Charlie possibly be the chairman of the Emgrand Group?
Ignoring the curious gazes around him, Charlie turned and walked out of the hall to look for Claire.
Meanwhile, Doris stood up, walked onto the stage, and took the microphone.
Everyone stared at her in confusion.
“Hello, everyone. I'm Doris Young. Mr. Charlie Wade happened to run into our chairman outside the hall earlier. Our chairman asked me to deliver a message to everyone through him.”
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief when they heard that Charlie wasn't the chairman.
Kevin sneered.
“It was just a chance encounter. How shameless of him to use it as an opportunity to curry favor with his superior. He's really desperate.”
Gerald shrugged and smiled.
“Exactly. He's always been like that.”
Meanwhile, Doris looked toward Lady Wilson. Her expression was cold and serious.
“The chairman has asked me to inform you that the Emgrand Group is terminating its cooperation with the Wilson Group, effective immediately.
“The contract is hereby declared void.”
“What?!”
A loud cry of shock echoed throughout the banquet hall.
No one had expected Doris to make such an announcement.
Everyone was stunned and confused by the sudden turn of events.
The blood drained from Lady Wilson's face.
She hurried toward Doris and pleaded, “Miss Young, what do you mean? Why are you suddenly terminating the cooperation? Did we do something wrong?”
She had invited all the distinguished guests and business leaders to the banquet tonight because she wanted to raise the Wilson family's reputation in Aurouss Hilll.
If news of the project being canceled spread from an event like this, the Wilson family would become a laughingstock throughout the city.
Doris spoke firmly.
“This cooperation was established because our chairman recognized Miss Claire Wilson's abilities.
“Yet, without consulting us, you suddenly appointed an ordinary employee to take charge of the project.
“I'm sorry, but we cannot accept such an absurd arrangement.”
After saying this, Doris put down the microphone and walked off the stage.
Lady Wilson stood there, her face as pale as a sheet of paper.
If she had known things would end this way, she would never have replaced Claire with Harold as project director—even if someone had held a gun to her head.
Harold hurried over to her and asked anxiously, “Grandma, the appointment has already been announced. You're not going to regret your decision now, are you?”
Lady Wilson struggled to her feet.
She raised her hand and slapped Harold hard across the face.
“You bastard! How can you still be thinking about the position at a time like this?”
She glared at him furiously.
“Come with me! We're going to find Claire right now!”
