the afternoon sun hung above Tokyo, casting a warm light over the streets.

For the first time in a while, Akira didn’t have anywhere he needed to be.

No interviews.

No filming.

No worrying about what might happen next.

Just an ordinary afternoon.

Akira walked along the sidewalk with Hanoka, Takumi, and Rin.

Takumi looked around before pointing toward a large building.

Takumi: “There.”

Akira looked up.

A colorful sign hung above the entrance.

ARCADE

Akira adjusted his glasses.

Akira: “You dragged us here just to play games?”

Takumi grinned.

Takumi: “Exactly.”

Rin folded her arms.

Rin: “You say that like it’s a bad thing.”

Hanoka smiled.

Hanoka: “I think it sounds fun.”

Akira sighed.

Akira: “Fine.

But I’m not paying for everyone’s games.”

Takumi: “Nobody asked you to.”

Akira: “Good.”

They entered the arcade.

The sound of machines, music, and people talking filled the building.

Takumi immediately walked toward one of the racing machines.

Takumi: “Akira.”

Akira: “No.”

Takumi: “You haven’t even heard what I’m going to say.”

Akira: “I know exactly what you’re going to say.”

Takumi pointed toward the racing machine.

Takumi: “Race me.”

Akira stared at him.

Akira: “You know I’m going to win.”

Takumi: “That’s a lot of confidence for someone who wears fake glasses.”

Akira slowly turned toward him.

Akira: “What do my glasses have to do with this?”

Rin laughed quietly.

Rin: “He’s trying to get under your skin.”

Hanoka walked over to the machines.

Hanoka: “Come on, Akira.

Just one race.”

Akira sighed.

Akira: “Fine.”

They sat down.

The race began.

Takumi immediately took the lead.

Takumi: “YES!”

Akira remained calm.

Akira: “You celebrated too early.”

A few seconds later, Akira overtook him.

Takumi: “WHAT?!”

Rin covered her mouth as she laughed.

Hanoka smiled.

Hanoka: “I told you.”

Takumi: “No way!”

Akira: “You challenged me.”

Takumi: “Rematch!”

Akira: “Absolutely not.”

Takumi: “Coward.”

Akira: “Idiot.”

Hanoka laughed.

They tried the basketball game.

Takumi somehow managed to miss several easy shots.

They played a rhythm game.

Rin turned out to be much better than everyone expected.

Then Hanoka found a small claw machine.

She stared at a stuffed cat inside.

Hanoka: “It’s cute.”

Akira looked at the machine.

Akira: “You want it?”

Hanoka nodded.

Akira put a coin into the machine.

Hanoka: “You don’t have to.”

Akira: “I know.”

He moved the claw carefully.

It grabbed the stuffed cat.

For a moment, everyone watched.

The claw lifted it.

Then dropped it.

Takumi burst out laughing.

Takumi: “THE GREAT AKIRA TAMAYAMA HAS BEEN DEFEATED!”

Akira stared at the machine.

Akira: “I hate this place.”

Rin: “You can try again.”

Akira: “No.”

Hanoka laughed.

Hanoka: “Akira, you’re taking this personally.”

Akira: “The machine started it.”

They eventually left the arcade with nothing except a few small prizes Rin had won.

Outside, the afternoon air felt much quieter.

Takumi stretched his arms.

Takumi: “That was fun.”

Rin nodded.

Rin: “We should do this again.”

Akira looked at the others.

Akira: “Maybe.”

Hanoka smiled.

Hanoka: “Maybe?”

Akira: “Fine.

We can come again.”

Takumi raised his fist.

Takumi: “YES!”

They continued walking until they reached a nearby park.

The park was peaceful.

Children were playing near the playground while a few people sat beneath the trees.

The four friends found an empty bench and sat down.

For a while, nobody spoke.

The breeze moved gently through the trees.

Akira leaned back against the bench.

Akira: “This is nice.”

Takumi looked at him.

Takumi: “You sound surprised.”

Akira: “I am.”

Rin looked toward the playground.

Rin: “Sometimes it’s nice to do nothing.”

Hanoka nodded.

Hanoka: “Especially after everything that’s happened.”

Akira became quiet for a moment.

Then he smiled faintly.

Akira: “Yeah.”

Takumi stood up.

Takumi: “I’m getting drinks.”

Rin: “I’ll come with you.”

Hanoka looked at Akira.

Hanoka: “You want anything?”

Akira shook his head.

Akira: “I’m fine.”

Akira watched them leave.

Hanoka sat beside him.

Hanoka: “You seem happier today.”

Akira looked at the sky.

Akira: “I guess I am.”

Hanoka smiled.

Hanoka: “You should have days like this more often.”

Akira nodded.

Akira: “I probably should.”

A few minutes later, Takumi and Rin returned with drinks.

Takumi handed one to Akira.

Takumi: “Here.”

Akira: “Thanks.”

Takumi sat down.

Takumi: “So, where are we going next?”

Rin: “You just decided that?”

Takumi: “Yes.”

Hanoka thought for a moment.

Hanoka: “Window shopping?”

Akira looked at her.

Akira: “We aren’t buying anything?”

Hanoka: “We don’t have to.”

Takumi stood up immediately.

Takumi: “Then let’s go.”

Akira sighed.

Akira: “You really can’t sit still.”

Takumi: “Correct.”

Rin laughed.

Rin: “Let’s go before he runs away.”

The streets were becoming busier as evening approached.

They walked through a shopping district, stopping whenever something caught their attention.

Takumi spent several minutes looking at headphones.

Rin examined notebooks and stationery.

Hanoka looked through a clothing store window.

Akira stopped at a bookstore.

He looked through the glass at the shelves inside.

Takumi walked over.

Takumi: “You’re seriously looking at books?”

Akira: “Yes.”

Takumi: “We’re window shopping.”

Akira: “Books have windows too.”

Takumi stared at him.

Rin laughed.

Rin: “That doesn’t even make sense.”

Akira smiled.

They continued down the street.

Nobody was rushing.

Nobody was investigating anything.

Nobody was worrying about tomorrow.

They were simply walking together.

Four friends spending an ordinary afternoon together.

As the sun slowly disappeared behind the buildings, Hanoka looked at the others.

Hanoka: “We should do this again.”

Takumi: “Definitely.”

Rin: “Agreed.”

Akira looked at them and smiled.

Akira: “Yeah.”

He looked toward the evening sky.

For once, he wasn’t thinking about the past.

He wasn’t thinking about what might happen next.

He was simply enjoying the moment.

Sometimes, happiness didn’t need to be complicated.

Sometimes, it was just an afternoon spent with friends.

And for Akira, that was enough.
