As he desperately tried to figure out how to communicate with the mysterious person holding him, another voice suddenly echoed inside his mind.
Unlike the emotionless voice of Great Sage, this one sounded warm and amused.
"Hey there, buddy. You’re a special monster, aren’t you? Can you understand me?"
Rimuru nearly jumped out of the man’s hands.
WAAAH!
I can hear his voice inside my head!
Telepathy?!
After a moment of surprise, he cautiously replied.
"Y-You can hear me?"
A chuckle echoed through the mental connection.
"Yup."
The man’s tone sounded oddly friendly.
"So you can understand me after all. Intelligent monsters are pretty rare."
Rimuru immediately became excited.
"Wow! You really can hear me!"
"I can."
There was a brief pause before the man continued.
"So, are you a special monster?"
Rimuru tilted mentally.
"I don’t actually know what a special monster is."
The man laughed softly.
"A special monster is a monster that has transcended its normal limits and become a unique individual. Monsters like that usually possess intelligence far beyond their species and have the potential to evolve into something extraordinary."
"Ohhh..."
Rimuru thought about it for a moment.
Then he nodded internally.
"In that case, I guess I am a special monster."
"I figured."
The man sounded amused.
For a few moments, silence settled between them.
Then the crimson-haired stranger suddenly spoke again.
"Say, little slime."
"Hmm?"
"Do you want to travel with me?"
Rimuru blinked.
The offer had come completely out of nowhere.
"Travel with you?"
"Sure."
The man’s voice carried a relaxed confidence.
"It’s better than wandering around this cave alone, isn’t it?"
Rimuru considered it.
He had no idea where he was.
No idea how to survive.
No idea what kind of world he had been reincarnated into.
And this was the first intelligent being he had encountered.
Most importantly—
The man seemed nice.
At least he hadn’t tried to eat him.
That already placed him pretty high on Rimuru’s list of trustworthy individuals.
Without much hesitation, he replied.
"Okay! I’ll come with you!"
The crimson-haired man smiled.
"Good choice."
And just like that, an unlikely partnership was formed.
A newly reincarnated slime.
And a mysterious demon from another world.
Neither of them knew it yet.
But from that moment onward, their meeting would begin a chain of events that would shake the entire Cardinal World.
"So you’re telling me that you were originally a human, got stabbed, died, and then woke up in this world as a slime?"
Sirzechs asked with an expression of disbelief.
After spending several days traveling together through the labyrinthine cave, Rimuru had gradually lowered his guard and told him the story of his previous life.
Of course, Sirzechs already knew all of this.
However, acting surprised was far easier than explaining how he knew the details of a person’s life before they had even spoken about it.
"That’s right!" Rimuru replied proudly.
"One moment I was dying, and the next I woke up as a slime. Honestly, I still can’t believe it myself."
Sirzechs rubbed his chin thoughtfully.
"Hmm... that actually explains a lot."
"Explains what?" Rimuru asked curiously.
"Why you’re a Unique Monster."
Rimuru immediately became interested.
"Really?"
Sirzechs nodded.
"Reincarnated individuals are rare, but not unheard of in this world. Some people from other worlds retain fragments of their souls, memories, or special abilities after crossing dimensions. It often causes unusual mutations."
"Wait..." Rimuru paused.
"You mean there are other people from Earth here?"
"There are."
Sirzechs nodded casually.
"Some are reincarnators like you."
"Others are what this world calls Otherworlders—people who were summoned here, often without their consent."
Rimuru froze.
Then his entire body began bouncing excitedly.
"Seriously?!"
"Yep."
"I can actually meet people from Earth again?!"
"Most likely."
"WOOOOOO!"
The slime launched himself into the air and bounced around wildly.
"I thought I’d never see another Japanese person again!"
Sirzechs chuckled.
Watching Rimuru’s excitement was surprisingly entertaining.
A few moments later, Rimuru calmed down and turned toward him.
"Wait a second."
"You said reincarnators."
"Does that mean you’re one too?"
Sirzechs smiled.
"In a way, yes."
"I also possess memories from a previous life."
The slime’s eyes practically sparkled.
"Awesome!"
"So we’re both reincarnators!"
"Looks that way."
From that point onward, Rimuru became noticeably more comfortable around him.
The two chatted constantly while exploring the cave.
Most of the conversations consisted of Rimuru asking endless questions about the world while Sirzechs answered whatever he reasonably could.
During their journey, they encountered numerous monsters inhabiting the cave.
Venomous serpents.
Giant bats.
Armored insects.
Sirzechs intentionally refrained from interfering.
Instead, he allowed Rimuru to fight them himself.
The slime quickly discovered that consuming defeated monsters granted him new abilities, causing his growth rate to accelerate dramatically.
At the same time, they collected every useful resource they came across.
Hipokute grass.
Rare medicinal plants.
High-grade magic ore.
Anything valuable disappeared into Sirzechs’ Spatial Sovereignty storage or into Rimuru’s stomach.
Days passed.
Then more days.
The deeper they ventured into the cave, the denser the surrounding magicules became.
Even the atmosphere felt heavier.
More powerful.
Eventually, Sirzechs came to a stop.
His crimson eyes narrowed slightly.
He could feel it.
An overwhelming presence.
Ancient.
Vast.
Boundless.
The concentration of magicules in the area had risen to a level that would suffocate most beings instantly.
Even powerful monsters instinctively avoided this region.
Rimuru noticed him stop.
"Hm? What’s wrong?"
Sirzechs looked ahead.
A faint smile appeared on his face.
"We’re close."
"Close to what?"
The pressure in the air suddenly intensified.
Rimuru felt his entire body tremble.
An immense aura washed over the cavern like a tidal wave.
Ancient power filled every corner of the underground world.
Even without seeing its owner, one could feel the majesty hidden behind that presence.
Sirzechs folded his arms.
"We’ve arrived."
His gaze settled upon the darkness ahead.
"At the prison of the Storm Dragon."
Rimuru froze.
Then his eyes widened.
"The Storm Dragon?"
Sirzechs nodded.
"Veldora"
"The strongest being currently residing in this cave."
Far ahead, beyond countless layers of magical barriers and seals, an impossible amount of magicules churned like a raging storm.
The aura of a True Dragon.
One of the strongest races in existence.
And soon enough, they would come face-to-face with it.
He continued forward alongside the slime, following the overwhelming aura that filled the cavern.
As they drew closer, the pressure in the air became heavier and heavier.
The vast chamber ahead seemed endless, illuminated by countless glowing magic crystals embedded in the walls. At its center stood a colossal dragon.
No.
Calling it colossal was an understatement.
The creature’s body alone was large enough to dwarf mountains. Black scales covered its enormous frame, while streams of magicules swirled around it like a raging storm. A pair of golden eyes, each larger than a house, stared directly at the two newcomers.
The very sight of him made Rimuru freeze.
