Noah began keeping a list of people who might matter.

At first, it was simply a page in his notebook, tucked between training observations and copied references from Mystic Falls’s historical archives.

He wrote down names he remembered from the television series, followed by short notes describing what he knew and what remained uncertain.Full novel: APEX IN THE SHADOWS — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Stefan Salvatore — vampire.

Damon Salvatore — vampire.

Elena Gilbert — human, initially.

Bonnie Bennett — witch.

Caroline Forbes — human at the beginning.

Tyler Lockwood — connected to the werewolf curse.

He stopped at the last entry.

The list looked deceptively simple.

Names and descriptions.

Nothing more than a memory aid.

Yet every name represented a possible danger, an opportunity, or a person whose life might change if Noah interfered with the events he remembered.

He did not intend to manipulate everyone around him.

He was not interested in becoming a hidden ruler who arranged people’s lives from behind the scenes.

He had no desire to turn the supernatural world into a game in which every person was a pawn.

But he could not ignore the fact that foreknowledge had value.

If a person was likely to encounter a supernatural threat, Noah could prepare.

If someone possessed a rare ability, he could learn from them.

If a future event threatened his family, he might be able to prevent it.

The difficulty was knowing when to intervene.

A vampire might be dangerous but not irredeemable.

A witch might make a terrible decision while trying to protect someone she loved.

A werewolf might be unable to control a transformation until someone helped them understand it.

Noah did not want to judge people solely by what he remembered from television.

People changed.

Circumstances changed.

And his presence had already begun to alter events.

The encounter in the woods was proof of that.

He had no memory of Aaron Pike, nor of a creature attacking someone near Mystic Falls before the series began.

The incident might have occurred outside the original storyline, or it might have been caused by the differences between the television universes now sharing one world.

He turned to a fresh page and wrote a new heading.

Observation before intervention.

Underneath it, he added three rules.

First, confirm what a person or creature can actually do.

Second, distinguish hostile behaviour from mere unfamiliarity.

Third, never assume that a known name guarantees a known outcome.

He was still considering the list when a notification appeared in his mind.

[HEAVEN REWARDS HARD WORK SYSTEM]

Cultivation record updated.

Psychic Energy: Initial Foundation Established.

No numerical level appeared.

No rank.

No reward chest.

Noah stared at the message, then waited for more information.

Nothing followed.

He exhaled slowly.

“That is almost impressively unhelpful.”

The notification disappeared.

Still, the words mattered.

Initial foundation.

He had spent several days meditating, testing telekinesis, and learning to recognise the sensation of psychic energy.

The system had acknowledged the effort, though it had not explained what came next.

He could work with that.

He closed the notebook and moved to the centre of his bedroom.

A small metal coin rested on his desk.

He focused on it.

The coin trembled, lifted slightly, and fell back onto the wood.

Noah repeated the attempt.

This time, the coin rose several centimetres.

He held it in the air for two seconds before the pressure behind his forehead became uncomfortable.

Then he tried something different.

Instead of moving the coin, he attempted to sense its structure: its shape, its weight, the distribution of material within it.

He did not expect to learn anything useful, but he wanted to discover whether psychic energy could gather information as well as exert force.

For several seconds, he felt nothing.

Then an indistinct impression appeared.

Cold metal.

A circular shape.

A shallow groove near the edge.

He opened his eyes and examined the coin.

The groove was there.

It was not a remarkable discovery.

He might have noticed it unconsciously before the experiment, and his enhanced senses could account for some of the result.

But the method deserved further testing.

If psychic energy could eventually perceive hidden objects, detect living beings, or identify magical disturbances, it would be valuable for far more than combat.

Noah sat down and wrote another note.

Possible secondary application: psychic perception.

Unconfirmed.

He looked again at the list of names.

Stefan Salvatore would eventually return to Mystic Falls.

Damon would follow.

Elena’s life would become entangled with theirs, and the town would begin a chain of events that involved vampires, witches, werewolves, and forces far older than the people who lived there.

Noah could approach them.

He could also wait.

At present, he possessed overwhelming physical power but limited knowledge of the world’s supernatural rules.

His psychic cultivation had only just begun.

His family knew nothing about the scale of his abilities, and his understanding of the other television universes remained incomplete.

He would gain more from preparation than from introducing himself to two vampires simply because he knew their names.

Noah closed the notebook.

The list would grow.

But not every name required an immediate response.

He had time.

And he intended to use it.
