Chapter 10: Purging the Faithful

Apocalypse Conquest: Isekaied With The Harem System

The air crackled with tension as Kael and his consorts marched toward the Inquisition Citadel. The sky above churned with dark clouds, the scent of ozone and blood thick in the air. The heavy iron gates loomed ahead, guarded by corrupted zealots whose eyes glowed with unholy fire.

Lyra adjusted her grip on her manifested ice sword, the blade humming with frost. "They've fortified the outer courtyard. Expect ambushes from the shadows."

Elara grinned, her violet eyes glinting with feral anticipation. "Let them try."

Cecilia whispered, "The corruption here is so thick. It clings to their souls like tar."

Kael cracked his knuckles. "Then burn it away."

The first zealot lunged from the ramparts, his warped body twisting midair—only to be impaled on Lyra's sword before he hit the ground. Ice erupted from the wound, freezing him solid before she shattered him with a flick of her wrist.

A volley of corrupted arrows rained down. Cecilia raised her hands, and a dome of golden light erupted around them, the projectiles disintegrating on contact.

"Holy Barrier sustained," she murmured. "But they're regrouping."

Elara vanished into the shadows. A heartbeat later, screams erupted from the enemy ranks as dark tendrils lashed out, binding limbs and snapping bones. She reappeared atop a zealot's shoulders, driving her daggers through his skull before vanishing again.

Kael strode forward, his Apex Yang energy pulsing. A group of zealots charged, their bodies warped by Abyssal mutations. He met them head-on, fists wreathed in frost and shadow. The first punch caved in a chest; the second shattered a jaw. The third never landed—Lyra's ice spear shot past his shoulder, impaling the last foe through the throat.

"Covering you, Master," she said, smirking.

Cecilia's voice rang out, pure and commanding. "Purge them!"

A wave of holy fire erupted from her palms, washing over the corrupted ranks. Flesh blackened and peeled away, revealing the twisted skeletons beneath. The zealots writhed, their unholy shields crumbling under the purifying light.

Elara materialized beside Cecilia, her daggers dripping black blood. "Nice opening, Saintess."

Lyra lunged ahead, her sword carving a path through the burning remnants. "Don't get distracted. The real fight's inside."

The heavy iron doors of the Inner Sanctum groaned as Kael placed a hand on them. The metal frosted over before shattering inward.

Beyond, the grand hall stretched out, lit by flickering torches. The Inquisitor General stood at the far end, flanked by his elite guard. His voice boomed, dripping with malice.

"You dare defile this sacred place?"

The Inquisitor General's elite guard moved as one, their armor clanking, their weapons dripping with Abyssal taint. Kael didn't wait for them to strike first.

"Lyra, freeze their advance. Elara, blind them. Cecilia, burn away their corruption."

The harem moved in perfect sync.

Lyra slammed her sword into the ground, and a wave of glacial energy erupted, encasing the front ranks in ice up to their knees. The guards roared, struggling against the frost—only for Elara to melt into the darkened corners of the hall, her shadowy tendrils lashing out to wrap around their throats, yanking them off-balance.

Cecilia stepped forward, her blindfold fluttering as she raised her hands. Golden fire erupted from her palms, searing through the blackened sigils on the guards' armor. The corruption shielding them hissed and dissolved like wax.

[System: Holy Fire Incantation! Corruption resistance shattered!]

Kael moved.

His fist caved in the first guard's helmet, the impact snapping his neck before his body even hit the ground. The second swung a corrupted greatsword—Kael caught the blade mid-air, frost crawling up the metal before he shattered it with a twist. He drove his knee into the man's gut, then crushed his skull underfoot.

The third guard managed a desperate lunge. Kael sidestepped, grabbed his wrist, and snapped it backward, driving the man's own dagger through his eye.

The Inquisitor General watched, his face twisted in fury. "You think this changes anything? The rot runs deeper than you know!"

Kael wiped blood from his knuckles. "I know."

Then he lunged.

The General was fast, his blade humming with cursed energy, but Kael was faster. He caught the sword between his palms, frost spreading along the steel until it cracked. The General snarled, drawing a dagger—only for Kael to seize his wrist and crush the bones.

A sickening snap echoed through the hall.

The General gasped, but Kael didn't let him scream. He drove his fist into the man's throat, silencing him, then grabbed his head and slammed it into the stone floor. Once. Twice. A third time, until the skull gave way.

Kael exhaled, feeling the rush of vitality from the kill. No exhaustion. No hesitation. Only pure, euphoric dominance.

"Search his chambers," he ordered. "I want everything."

Lyra and Elara moved to secure the hall while Cecilia knelt beside the corpse, her fingers glowing as she purified the lingering corruption. Kael strode to the General's private vault, his Appraisal Eye scanning the blood-locked mechanism sealing it.

'Malakor's work.'

He pressed his palm against the lock, flooding it with Apex Yang energy. The blood seal sizzled, then shattered like glass.

Inside, among gold and relics, lay a black leather journal.

Kael flipped it open.

The pages were filled with names—high-ranking officials, guild masters, even a few supposed heroes of the city. Next to each, a single word: Compromised.

His lips curled into a smile.

"Master?" Lyra stepped beside him, her ice sword still dripping with remnants of the fight.

Kael closed the journal. "We've been hunting monsters outside the walls. Turns out, the real ones were inside all along."

Elara materialized from the shadows, her grin sharp. "So we kill them next?"

Cecilia's voice was soft but firm. "They've infected the city's heart. Purification is necessary."

Kael tucked the journal into his coat. "Exactly."
