Chapter 19: The Hunt in The Dark

Apocalypse Conquest: Isekaied With The Harem System

Kael leaned against the table, his expression calm but unyielding. The room was dimly lit, the mana grid humming faintly beneath their feet. Vanya stood beside him, her Arcane senses active, her fingers tracing invisible patterns in the air.

"There's movement," she said, her voice steady. "Deep underground. The tunnel you marked."

Kael's lips twitched into a cold smile. "I knew they'd take the bait. Arrogance blinds them."

Vanya glanced at him, her violet eyes sharp. "You could have sealed it before they entered."

"And miss the hunt?" Kael straightened, his aura flaring briefly. "No. Let them think they've escaped. Let them run. It's more satisfying this way."

Vanya nodded, understanding. Her Arcane senses pulsed, reaching out to the Core of the team.

Lyra's voice crackled through the mental link, icy and precise. "Surface exit secured. They won't escape that way."

Elara's feral whisper followed, dark and eager. "Shadows ready. Let them try to slip past me."

Cecilia's voice was soft but firm. "I'll lead with the Light. They'll have nowhere to hide."

Kael's Apex Yang energy burned brighter. "Move in. Seal them."

The Core Four acted as one, their synergy flawless. Lyra and Elara vanished into the darkness, their mastery over Frost and Shadows making them terrifyingly silent. Vanya stayed at the central hub, her Arcane magic weaving through the tunnel walls, sealing them inch by inch. Kael and Cecilia entered from the front, their combined Holy Light and Apex Yang radiating blinding power.

The twins crawled through the tunnel, their breaths ragged, their bodies battered. The rough stone tore at their hands and knees, leaving trails of blood in their wake.

"I can't—" Seraphina gasped, her voice breaking. "I can't keep going."

"You have to," Aurelia snapped, though her own limbs trembled. She reached into the folds of her dress, pulling out a jagged Abyssal charm. It pulsed faintly, its dark energy a stark contrast to the oppressive mana grid around them.

"What's that?" Seraphina whispered.

"Our last hope." Aurelia pressed the charm to the tunnel wall, willing it to activate. The charm hissed, sparks of black energy flickering—but then it fizzled out, its power nullified.

"No!" Aurelia slammed her fist against the stone, her voice raw. "The wards—he's blocked everything!"

Seraphina's breath hitched. "We're trapped."

"Not yet." Aurelia forced herself forward, her voice trembling. "We keep moving."

They crawled through the darkness, the air growing heavier with every inch. The tunnel twisted, the walls closing in. The sound of their labored breaths echoed, swallowed by the oppressive silence.

Then—

Ahead, the tunnel opened into a wider cavern. Aurelia hesitated, her instincts screaming. 'Something's wrong.'

They rounded the corner.

The darkness shattered.

Blinding Holy Light filled the cavern, Cecilia's radiant aura pushing back the shadows. Beside her, Kael stood, his Apex Yang energy burning like a sun. His presence was overwhelming, his gaze cold and unyielding.

Behind them came the crackle of ice and the whisper of shadows. Lyra and Elara emerged, their combined Frost and Shadow magic sealing the rear.

Seraphina clutched Aurelia's arm, her fingers digging in. "We're—"

"Surrounded," Aurelia finished, her voice barely audible.

Kael took a step forward, his voice echoing in their minds:

"Surrender."

"Aaaaah!" Aurelia's scream tore through the cavern as she lunged, the jagged Abyssal dagger flashing in the Holy Light's glow. Her eyes burned with desperate fury, her royal composure shattered into something feral. 'If I can't kill him, I'll summon something that can—'

Lyra moved faster than thought.

A single flick of her wrist. Frost crystallized in the air. The dagger's trajectory froze mid-swing, Aurelia's wrist snapping back with a sickening crack. The blade spun upward, black ichor trailing like dying embers.

Kael caught it without looking.

His fingers closed around the corrupted metal. The dagger hissed, its Abyssal energy writhing against his skin—then stilled.

"You thought this could touch me?" His voice was calm. Almost bored.

He snapped the blade.

A sound like breaking bones echoed through the cavern. The dagger's halves clattered to stone, their dark glow extinguishing instantly.

[ABYSSAL CONNECTION SEVERED - PATRONAGE REVOKED]

The twins gasped as one. Seraphina collapsed to her hands and knees, retching. Aurelia clutched her chest where the patron bond had lived—now just a hollow, bleeding wound in her magic. 'Gone. It's all gone—'

Kael stepped forward. His Dominance Aura ignited.

The weight hit them like a collapsing mountain. Their knees slammed into stone, bones creaking under the pressure. Aurelia's vision blurred at the edges, her lungs fighting for air that wouldn't come. Seraphina whimpered, tears streaking through the dirt on her face.

"Look at you." Kael's voice cut through the suffocating aura. "Princesses of nothing. Heirs to a corpse throne." He circled them slowly, boots scraping against rock. "Your bloodline couldn't protect you. Your patrons abandoned you. Even your own tunnel betrayed you."

Aurelia tried to lift her head. The aura crushed her cheek back to the ground.

"Bind them."

Cecilia stepped forward, her Holy Light casting their shame in stark relief. Soft silk cords slithered from her sleeves, wrapping around the twins' wrists with deceptive gentleness. Elara's shadows cinched the knots tight—unbreakable, but leaving no marks. 'Pretty prisoners for pretty cages,' her smirk said.

Kael turned his back. "Prepare the East Wing."

Cecilia bowed her head. "The purification rites?"

"Clear every trace of Abyssal taint from their flesh." He glanced over his shoulder, his eyes glowing with banked fire. "Then we begin the breaking."

Lyra hauled Aurelia upright by her bound arms. The Frost Maiden's breath was cold against her ear. "You'll learn to kneel properly, princess."

As they were dragged back toward the light, Seraphina's broken whisper followed:

"We never should have challenged him."

Aurelia didn't answer. The dagger's broken halves glittered in the darkness behind them—final as a grave.
