Chapter 7: The Saintess in the Vaults

Apocalypse Conquest: Isekaied With The Harem System

The Grand Cathedral loomed before them, its towering spires piercing the blood-red sky. Once a beacon of divine light, its marble façade now pulsed with veins of sickly violet rot. The stained-glass windows, depicting saints and angels, were fractured, their colors bleeding into the stone like weeping wounds. The air reeked of incense turned rancid, mingling with the metallic tang of spilled blood.

Kael flexed his fingers, feeling the hum of Yang energy in his veins. 'This place is a tomb pretending to be holy.'

Lyra's ice-blue eyes narrowed as she surveyed the entrance. "The corruption runs deep. The Abyss has taken root in their faith."

Elara crouched low, her shadow blending seamlessly with the creeping darkness. "I count six patrols. Corrupted, but still disciplined. They're not mindless—yet."

Kael nodded. "Lyra, muffle our steps. Elara, scout ahead. We move fast and quiet."

Lyra exhaled, her Frost Maiden bloodline activating. A thin layer of frost spread silently beneath their boots, deadening sound. Elara melted into the shadows, her form dissolving into the gloom.

They slipped through the grand archway, past statues of saints with hollowed-out eyes, their stone faces weeping black ichor. The once-pristine halls were littered with broken relics and smeared with symbols of the Abyss—twisted sigils carved into the walls like open sores.

Elara's voice whispered through the shadows into Kael's ear. "Two paladins up ahead. Their armor's fused to their flesh. They're more monster than man now."

Kael peered around the corner. The paladins stood guard before the inner nave, their once-shining plate mail now warped, spikes of bone erupting from their pauldrons. Their faces were half-melted, one eye swollen shut with Abyssal growths, the other glowing a sickly yellow.

Lyra's grip tightened on her manifested ice sword. "We take them before they raise the alarm."

Kael grinned. "Synergy strike. Go."

Lyra lunged first, her blade trailing a wake of absolute zero. The frost surged ahead, encasing the nearest paladin's legs in ice. The corrupted knight roared, but before he could swing his maul, Kael was already there. Golden Yang energy flared around his fist as he drove it into the paladin's chest. The armor shattered like glass, ribs exploding outward in a spray of blackened bone.

The second paladin turned, his mutated jaw unhinging to scream—but no sound came out. Elara materialized behind him, her shadow-forged daggers sliding through his spine like butter. His body convulsed, then slumped, dark blood pooling around his twisted limbs.

They didn't pause. The nave stretched before them, its pews shattered, the altar defiled with writhing tendrils of Abyssal flesh. At the far end, a group of corrupted clerics chanted in guttural tongues, their robes stained with blood. One turned, his face split vertically by a jagged maw of teeth.

"Intruders!" he screeched.

The clerics' hands glowed with corrupted holy magic, bolts of twisted light screaming toward the trio. Lyra pivoted, her ice sword flashing as she deflected one blast. The spell shattered against her blade, sending crystalline shards flying.

Kael charged, Golden Yang energy radiating from his body like a corona. He grabbed the nearest cleric by the throat and slammed him into the ground hard enough to crack the marble. The cleric's skull burst like overripe fruit.

Elara danced through the shadows, appearing and vanishing like a nightmare. Her daggers found throats, spines, and hearts with surgical precision. One cleric tried to cast a barrier, but her shadow bind lashed out, coiling around his wrists and yanking them apart. Lyra's ice spear impaled him mid-scream.

The last cleric, a withered old man with too many eyes, raised his hands. "You dare defile this sacred—"

Kael's fist met his jaw, silencing him permanently. The corpse crumpled, its extra eyes still blinking.

Silence fell. The nave was cleared.

Lyra wiped black blood from her blade. "They were once holy men. Now they're just meat."

Elara flicked gore from her daggers. "Meat that talks too much."

Kael turned toward the massive doors of the Inner Sanctum. They glowed with a sickly golden light, pulsing like a heartbeat. The air here was thick with corrupted mana, pressing against his skin like a living thing.

'Whatever's behind those doors… it's not just corruption. It's worship.'

Lyra inhaled sharply. "That aura… it's like the High Priest's, but worse."

Elara's violet eyes gleamed. "Then let's kill it faster."

Kael cracked his knuckles. "Open it."

Kael kicked open the Inner Sanctum doors. The stench of rotting divinity hit them like a physical force—incense turned to bile, holy water blackened into sludge. The chamber was a cathedral's nightmare. Golden light flickered from corrupted braziers, casting writhing shadows across walls carved with defiled scripture.

At the center, atop a platform of fused bone and melted gold, stood the Corrupted High Cleric.

His once-regal robes hung in tatters, his body swollen with Abyssal mutations. One arm had split into three jointed limbs, each ending in hooked talons. His face was a grotesque mockery of holiness—a halo of jagged black horns, his mouth stretched too wide, filled with rows of needle teeth. His remaining eye burned with violet fire.

"Defilers," he rasped, voice layered with a dozen hissing echoes. "You trespass in the house of the True God!"

Lyra's ice sword flared. "That thing hasn't been a god's servant in a long time."

Elara bared her teeth. "Let's put it down."

The High Cleric raised his talons. Corrupted holy light erupted from the floor in jagged spikes. Kael lunged forward, Yang energy surging around his fists. He punched the ground, sending a shockwave of golden force that shattered the spikes mid-air.

"Lyra, freeze his footing! Elara, blind him!"

Lyra slammed her palm onto the marble. Frost exploded outward, encasing the platform in a sheet of black ice. The High Cleric staggered—just as Elara's shadow bind lashed out, wrapping around his face like a living blindfold.

He screamed, lashing out blindly with his talons. One caught Lyra's pauldron, shredding metal. She gritted her teeth and swung. Her ice sword carved through two of his mutated arms, sending them thudding to the ground, twitching.

Kael didn't give him time to recover. He vaulted onto the platform , Yang flaring like a miniature sun. The High Cleric's remaining eye widened.

"You—!"

Kael's fist plowed into his gut. The impact sent a shockwave through the chamber, cracking the walls. The High Cleric doubled over, ichor spewing from his maw. Kael grabbed his horns and wrenched his head up.

"Your god's dead." He drove his knee into the cleric's face. Bone crunched. "You're next."

The High Cleric screeched, his body convulsing as Abyssal energy boiled beneath his skin. He was preparing something—a last, desperate spell.

Lyra saw it first. "He's overloading!"

Kael didn't hesitate. He grabbed the cleric's jaw with one hand, his other fist glowing Golden . "Open wide."

He punched down the High Cleric's throat.

Golden light erupted from within the corrupted priest. His body bulged, then burst apart in a shower of blackened viscera and shattered bone. The explosion of energy sent Kael skidding back, his arms smoking.

Silence fell. The chamber trembled, the last remnants of corrupted light flickering out.

Elara wiped gore from her cheek. "That was messy."

Lyra exhaled, her breath frosting. "Effective, though."

Kael turned toward the back of the chamber, where an ornate vault door pulsed with faint golden light. "Now for the prize."

He ripped the door open.

Inside, the air was pure—clean, almost painful in its brightness. The vault was a small, circular chamber, its walls lined with holy relics. And in the center, chained to the floor by glowing manacles, knelt Saintess Cecilia.

Her raven-black hair spilled over her shoulders, her green eyes wide with shock. She wore tattered saintess vestments, her delicate frame trembling. But despite her imprisonment, she radiated pure, uncorrupted Holy Light—a blinding contrast to the filth outside.

Kael stepped forward. The moment his Yang aura touched her Holy Light, the air hummed with resonance. Cecilia gasped, her entire body shuddering.

"You…" Her voice was barely a whisper, awestruck. "You're not tainted."

Kael crouched in front of her, studying her face. "Neither are you."

Tears welled in her eyes. "They tried to break me. To make me drink the Abyss. But the Light… it wouldn't let me fall."

Lyra cut her binds with a flick of her ice sword. Cecilia collapsed forward, catching herself on Kael's chest. The moment her skin touched his, her breath hitched. Her Holy Light flared, intertwining with his Golden light in a dazzling spiral.

Cecilia's pupils dilated. Her fingers dug into Kael's armor. "This… this is what I prayed for."

Kael cupped her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze. "You're mine now."

She didn't resist. She melted. "Yes."

Lyra crossed her arms. "She's fragile."

Elara smirked. "Or just starving for real power."

Kael stood, lifting Cecilia effortlessly. Her Holy Light pulsed against him, warm and alive. 'This changes everything.'

He looked toward the shattered cathedral doors, where the city's corrupted skyline loomed.

"With her light, we can purify the mana grid."

Cecilia pressed her face into his neck, her voice trembling with devotion. "Use me."
