Xiao Yi fastened the Spatial Pouch to his waist, picked up the modao, and gave it a few experimental swings.

It was somewhat heavy, but he could handle it. He estimated he could swing it a dozen or so times without a problem. Any more than that, however, and his stamina would give out.

Rubbing his empty stomach, Xiao Yi knew there was no time to waste. He needed to start gathering corpses and food immediately.Full novel: Apocalypse: I Built a City of Sin — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Open the gate!”

At his command, the heavy iron gate slowly swung open.

Several student zombies wandering outside were alerted by the noise. With hoarse snarls, they charged through the gate toward Xiao Yi.

Gripping the Blade of Sin, Xiao Yi held his breath and silently counted.

“One... two... three... four...”

Only after four zombies had entered did he order the gate to close.

These zombies were all at the lowest Living Corpse rank. They possessed nothing but an instinctive hunger for flesh and moved at roughly the same speed as ordinary humans.

As the four zombies rushed him, Xiao Yi roared and swung the Blade of Sin with all his strength.

In less than five minutes, all four zombies lay dead. Xiao Yi had suffered a couple of minor wounds, but they were nothing serious.

Looking at the corpses on the ground, Xiao Yi felt as though an entire lifetime had passed. Only a few days ago, these people had been his classmates. Now they were lifeless bodies beneath his blade.

Xiao Yi dragged one corpse over to the Tomb and threw it into the seemingly bottomless pit.

A line of crimson text immediately appeared on the Tomb’s stone marker.

【Zombie Burial in Progress...】

【Estimated Time Remaining: 1 Hour】

It took an entire hour to bury one zombie?

Xiao Yi frowned at the inscription before returning to the Rest Cabin and lying down.

The battle had consumed much of his stamina, and he had suffered two wounds. While the Tomb processed the corpse, he could use the Rest Cabin to recover.

Time passed quickly. Once the wounds on his arm and back had healed, the System’s notification sounded inside his mind.

【Ding! Corpse burial complete!】

【Apocalypse Coins +3】

【Constitution +2】

【The Level 1 Tomb is now empty. Please submit another corpse.】

As the synthetic voice faded, Xiao Yi felt a scorching current sweep through his entire body. It was as though every bone, vein, and cell had been nourished. Even the world before his eyes became a little clearer. The sensation vanished in an instant, and his body soon returned to normal.

So this was what improving his Constitution felt like?

Xiao Yi stood, walked outside, and threw another corpse into the Tomb.

He repeated the process. Four hours later, all four corpses had finally been buried.

After taking a moment to feel the changes in his body, Xiao Yi commanded inwardly, “System, display my attributes.”

“Both my Constitution and Strength have increased. Physically, I should be roughly on par with a competitive amateur athlete now. But in this apocalypse, that’s still nowhere near enough!”

Xiao Yi rose and glanced at the sky.

It was already noon. The blazing sun had made the zombies far more sluggish, and most had begun retreating toward shaded areas. Only a handful remained on the athletic field.

This was his chance to cross the field and collect food and water from the campus convenience store.

With the City of Sin, his safety inside the walls was assured. Food and water, however, were resources he desperately needed.

Hunger and thirst were already making him dizzy.

“Open the gate!”

As soon as the gate opened, Xiao Yi sprinted toward the convenience store on the opposite side of the field.

Only three zombies wandered aimlessly inside. Xiao Yi recognized one of them as the store’s notoriously stingy female owner. The other two had probably been students before they turned.

Xiao Yi rushed into the store. Before the three zombies could react, he swung the Blade of Sin and decapitated them all.

Ignoring the corpses for the moment, he opened his Spatial Pouch and swept all the snacks and bottled water from the shelves into it.

The commotion had been too loud. Several zombies wandering nearby noticed the activity inside the store and began staggering toward it.

Xiao Yi frowned slightly. He stored the three corpses in his Spatial Pouch and prepared to sprint back, only to discover that a strange zombie had appeared outside the City of Sin’s gate.

This zombie was clearly different from the others. It was much larger and more powerfully built, and it was repeatedly hurling itself against the city gate.
