The large amount of text that popped up on the system panel left Rong Hui momentarily overwhelmed. A flash of white light appeared, and a portion of pork knuckle rice materialized on the floor in front of her.
Rong Hui picked it up and examined it carefully, then sniffed it. This was indeed the same pork knuckle rice from the photo she had taken. Because she had been too impatient and eaten a piece before taking the picture, the plating on top was missing one piece.
Rong Hui did not know whether to laugh or cry. She was happy because she now had a cheat ability, but she was also upset because the cheat had appeared too late. She was not even sure she could survive this fire. She had no mood to eat pork knuckle rice right now.
Wait.
Rong Hui suddenly caught a flash of inspiration in her mind.
Could she find something in these photos that might help her get through this crisis?
Her fingers trembled with excitement as she quickly flipped through the photos in the box. When she saw one of them, her eyes immediately lit up.
This photo had been taken when she first participated in an amateur off road hiking race. In the picture, a girl with a high ponytail leaned against a mountain bike and flashed a peace sign toward the camera, her face wearing the same bright smile she was known for.
The bicycle was not the key point.
The key point was the cycling bag tied behind the bike.
She remembered that when she had just fallen in love with cycling, she had bought all sorts of strange equipment to carry with her. Although aside from mineral water, none of them had actually been used. Perhaps this was what people meant when they joked that poor students made up for it with extra tools.
Among those items was an emergency fire blanket. When she bought it online, she had only noticed the word “emergency” and had mistakenly bought an emergency fire blanket instead of an emergency thermal blanket.
Rong Hui remembered that the blanket was still lying in her storage cabinet. She had thought she would never use it in her lifetime.
Focusing all her attention on the cycling bag in the photo, Rong Hui silently repeated in her mind, convert, convert, convert…
She hoped the miracle from earlier would happen again.

It worked.
Although the bicycle itself had been converted as well, the cycling bag came along with it. Rong Hui was so delighted she almost shouted.
She quickly untied the cycling bag and rummaged inside, pulling out a compressed package. Printed in orange red letters on the arm length package were the words “Emergency Fire Blanket.”
There were pull rings on both sides of the bag. Rong Hui pulled them apart with both hands, and a white fire blanket made of special material slid out. It felt light in her hands and was large enough to cover most of her body.
With this advantageous piece of equipment, she now had another option.
Rong Hui climbed straight into the bathtub, letting the water inside soak her entire body. When her sweater and sweatpants were wet enough that water dripped from them, she wrapped the fire blanket around her entire body from head to toe.
After waiting so long without rescue arriving, Rong Hui felt she needed to change her plan.
This was, after all, a so called “instance world.” If it did not operate like the real world where firefighters would arrive for rescue, then hiding in the bathroom would only mean waiting for death.
The temperature inside the room continued rising. The water she had previously poured on the bathroom door had already evaporated. Rong Hui touched the doorknob and found that it was not very hot. The main room door might not have blocked the fire, but the flames probably had not yet reached the bathroom.
Wrapped in the fire blanket, Rong Hui thought for a moment and decided she had to rush out and check the situation.
She was on the fifteenth floor. From the balcony she could observe the entire situation. At the very least she needed to know whether anyone had come to rescue them. If no one came, she would try climbing toward the rooftop. Going downstairs was impossible. The fifteenth floor was far too high, and she had no way to climb down to the ground from the window.
Her phone was still in the pocket of her coat, which she had not brought with her. She did not know whether her phone could even be used in this instance world. If she could not find a way out outside, she could rush back to the bathroom. Lasting a little longer would still count as something gained.
After making up her mind, Rong Hui stored the mountain bike and the pork knuckle rice into the System Backpack.
Only then did she realize that the photo box had disappeared. It had turned into a small icon in the upper right corner of the system panel. By tapping it she could choose each photo. This meant her System Backpack now had one extra slot. She took the bread out of the backpack and set it aside, then tightened the straps of the cycling bag and stored it inside.
Everything was ready.
She covered her mouth and nose tightly with a wet towel, narrowed her eyes, and bent her body low. She still remembered the layout of the room. She had to rush to the balcony within a few seconds.
The moment she twisted the door open, thick smoke and a wave of heat rushed straight toward her face.
Rong Hui quickly covered her face with the fire blanket as well. Visibility inside the room was already extremely low, and she could not tell how far the flames had spread.
Holding her breath, she ran quickly toward the balcony.
After opening the window, the first thing she saw was the bright red fire truck. Several fire trucks were parked on the ground below the building, and a ladder truck was already in operation.
Ecstatic relief took away her breath.
She was saved.
It seemed the instance world operated just like the real world. As long as someone came to rescue them, everything would be fine.
“Help! Help! Someone is here on the fifteenth floor, help!!!”
Rong Hui shouted toward the ground below with the loudest voice she had ever used in her life.
Her silver white fire blanket was very conspicuous under the sunlight. Very quickly, the firefighter on the ladder noticed her and began extending the ladder toward the fifteenth floor.
At that moment, with a loud bang, the extreme temperature inside the room triggered a flashover explosion. A wave of heat surged from behind her.
Rong Hui stumbled and almost got thrown out of the window.
“Ah! It hurts!”
Both of her hands holding the fire blanket were burned. The intense pain caused her vision to darken slightly, and half of her hair had been singed by the flames.
Seeing the ladder getting closer and closer, Rong Hui crouched down and hugged her knees, curling her entire body inside the fire blanket.
Hold on. Please hold on.
She was only twenty three years old. She did not want to die yet.
Rong Hui kept praying in her heart.
Every second during the struggle between life and death felt unbearably long.
Just when she felt as though she was about to be steamed alive, a heavenly voice finally reached her ears.
“Are you alright? Can you still stand up?”
The firefighter’s voice sounded right in front of her. The ladder had reached her window.
As a large amount of fire extinguishing foam sprayed over her body, Rong Hui felt much better. She forced herself to stand up and climb out of the window. Only when she collapsed onto the ladder did the pain fully catch up with her.
Looking down, she saw that her calf had also been burned. Torn fragments of her pants were stuck to the horrifying wound.
Her sweat soaked hair clung messily to her forehead in strands. Her cheeks were flushed a purplish red, and the smoke had left black streaks across her face. She had never looked so miserable in her entire life.
No matter what, she had survived.
Letting out a long breath, Rong Hui was just about to thank the firefighter who had saved her when a flash of white light suddenly appeared before her eyes.
