Matou Residence, Medea stood at the rooftop of the residence, looking down.

The surroundings of the residence had already been set up with a barrier by her; as long as anything came out from inside, she would immediately notice it.

She wondered how Master was doing over there.Full novel: Arknights: Surtr, the Flame That Crosses Worlds — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

She thought to herself.

Although with the other party’s strength, she probably didn’t need to worry about anything, that was still black mud after all, so she still had to be a bit careful.

Just as she was pondering how much longer Surtr would take to come out, the residence beneath her feet suddenly shook.

It was as if something had exploded from underground.

Staggering two steps, Medea steadied herself by holding onto the wall, subconsciously assuming this was the commotion caused by her own Master.

She poked her head out from the enclosure wall.

The next moment, all the windows in the residence shattered in an instant.

Large swaths of black shadows surged out from within the residence.

The insect swarm flapped their wings, emitting piercing screeches from their hideous mouthparts, rushing toward all directions without a moment’s pause like giant waves in the sea.

Medea’s lips parted slightly, and she retreated, quickly casting a shield on herself to avoid being affected by the swarm.

She felt a malice identical to the one inside the residence from some of those bugs.

What was going on?

Did the Master fail?

How could that be.

The moment the thought appeared, it was denied.

The contract between the two of them was completely normal, and she could faintly sense that the other party’s condition was intact.

Moreover, the insect swarm before her completely turned a blind eye to her, desperately fleeing outward as if they wanted to get away from this residence, as though some terrifying thing was chasing behind them.

It was because of Surtr.

Medea guessed.

And this question received its answer the next second.

Glaring flames rushed out of the residence right behind the insect swarm.

The flames spread continuously along the trajectory of the swarm’s movement like maggots on bones, as if raging fire met firewood.

The sound of shells melting by the flames was swallowed into her ears, and the heat wave turned into a storm sweeping across the surroundings.

The sky, the ground, everything within sight was burning rapidly in the gushing flames.

“Whoa.”

Standing in the center of the flames, Medea couldn’t help but let out an exclamation.

At this moment, her distance from the flames had reached a point sufficient to make one’s heart skip a beat.

Even as a Servant, given her stats, she definitely wouldn’t fare well if she got entangled by the flames.

But she was not afraid.

Because she knew these flames would not harm her.

It was just that the smell of sulfur and the burnt smell of the insect swarm mixed in the air, making her slightly uncomfortable.

“Medea.”

Surtr’s voice rang in her mind.

“Check if there are any fish that slipped through the net; if there are, clean them up.”

Underground, before Surtr’s eyes was the already-dissolved worm pit, and the surrounding walls were flowing downward like melted candles with crimson, viscous liquid.

She raised her head; directly above the worm pit was the residence’s living room.

To prevent igniting the entire residence and causing all previous efforts to be wasted, she controlled her strength, so it was hard to say whether any fish slipped through the net.

In the distance, on a tall building.

“Hey Archer, that’s what Caster caused, right.”

Rin looked toward the archer by her side, asking a question that seemed to be comforting herself.

“Unfortunately, Rin.”

Archer ruthlessly denied it.

“That patch of flames was probably done by her Master.”

Lowering his bow, he had already lost Caster’s trace.

“Then, if she’s just a human, the use of a Noble Phantasm should have restrictions, right.”

She attempted to find some flaws in Surtr.

“Indeed, for ordinary magicians to use or rather release a Noble Phantasm is an extremely difficult matter; the higher the rank of the Noble Phantasm, the more so.”

“But that’s for ordinary magicians; Caster’s Master clearly does not belong to this category. No, whether she is even human remains open to debate.”

Archer spoke the cruel truth.

“Then how about we make a move while they are exhausted.”

Rin proposed.

However, Archer still shook his head, his gaze falling around the mansion.

“With such a big commotion, I’m afraid we aren’t the only ones who have arrived here. At the very least, Caster’s state is still intact, and if we get dragged down, we will also be in great danger.”

“Ah, just a single group is already this troublesome.”

Rin irritably scratched her head.

She had thought she was well-prepared enough, but she never expected to run into a monster.

“I suggest we look for allies and eliminate the most threatening guy first.”

“It seems that’s the only way.”

Rin nodded.

This was a very reasonable suggestion, requiring not too much hesitation.

It’s just that the choice of allies must be handled with care; we’ll need to contact other Masters and Servants later…

“Then it’s up to you to help clean up those flying bugs that escaped. If they run into the city, it will be very troublesome.”

Rin looked at the vortex of flames in the distance that lit up the entire sky, gritting her teeth in annoyance.

“Good grief, to actually cause such a huge commotion in the urban area, I’m afraid it’ll be on the front page tomorrow.”

She was the manager of this land, and she would be held responsible if there were any leaks of mysteries.

“Understood.”

“Master, the cleanup is complete.”

Surtr had just walked out of the mansion when she saw Medea descending from the air.

“Such high efficiency.”

She praised.

“The number of bugs wasn’t that large, and along the way, other Servants helped out.”

“Which Servant was it?”

Surtr asked.

“It’s Archer.”

“Archer?”

Surtr raised her head and sensed her surroundings.

There was no one around; did he hide, or had he already left?

“You certainly know a lot, Master.”

Medea was surprised.

Even with magic similar to Clairvoyance, she had barely managed to make out the opponent’s appearance, yet her own Master knew it before even stepping out.

“You can consider me to have some kind of skill to see through the future, though sometimes it’s not very accurate.”

“Just like going to the school earlier.”

“…Don’t bring up that sore subject.”

Surtr felt helpless.

Who would have known that Matou Sakura in this world didn’t even have the surname Matou.

“I’ll tell you about the intel on those Servants later. For now, tell me what you’re holding in your hand.”

She quickly changed the subject.

Surtr looked at Medea’s right hand.

There, a gray mouse was held by Medea using threads formed of magical energy.

Upon seeing the creature’s human-like expression of pain, she vaguely guessed what it was.

“This is that old bug. He parasitized inside a rat and wanted to escape during the chaos, but I set up a barrier outside the mansion and grabbed him directly on the way back.”

Indeed.

Surtr nodded.

The opponent had truly become a rat in the gutter now, literally speaking.

Medea lifted the mouse up.

Its plump body struggled incessantly in the air, its mouth opening and closing continuously as if wanting to say something, but completely unable to make a sound.

“Because I found him too noisy, I arbitrarily sealed his voice. Would you like to hear what he has to say?”

“No, no need.”

Surtr had no intention of communicating with him and raised her hand to snap her fingers lightly.

A wisp of flame rose on Matou Zouken’s body, reducing both his body and soul to ashes.

[Kill Matou Zouken]

[Reward: Primogems × 50]

[Current Primogems: 823.2]

This decimal point looked very subtle, but never mind.

Coupled with the bugs killed in the basement earlier, Surtr’s current Primogems were only two hundred short of the one-thousand mark.

Although the income from bugs was very little, there was no resisting their sheer numbers.

Moreover, the specially made bugs nurtured with black mud yielded more rewards than ordinary bugs.

Surtr could burn thousands to death with a single fire.

If not for the fact that many had not yet hatched among them, she might have obtained even more.

What a pity.

Although she had half a mind to let the guy become a bug-making machine, Surtr couldn’t stay in this world for long anyway, so killing him outright was better.

It would be great if there were more good things like this rapid reaping in the future.

But such matters could only be imagined; where would there be so many opportunities?

Shaking her head and thinking no more of it, Surtr swiped away the panel and brought Medea into the Matou Family residence.

She was going to collect the spoils of war.
