Preface
This is not how I expected to die. Not shielding an innocent family from dragonfire or cutting down an agent of Tiamat. No, I am dying with acid in my throat, choking me as it spills from my very veins, with a hellscape surrounding me and a false sky above.
I could almost laugh at the absurdity of it all if it weren’t for the liquid filling my lungs. Nothing has turned out the way I had expected, the way I was told it would.
In many ways, I’m grateful.
In others?
I’m angry.
This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.
And even more angry, that this is when it ends, and I will leave behind unfinished business.
But that’s what happens when you live a life like mine, dancing on the line with little regard beyond my singular focus. And at the heart of that focus, long before this moment, was a temple, nestled in a remote mountain range. There was a girl at that temple, who dreamed of fighting for goodness, of fighting in the name of dragonkind and bringing hope to the world.
And there was hope, in the form of a little green drake, who looked at the girl and said, “Dare.”
The wind rises, and the wings unfold.
I am found. I am firm. I am yours.
In the name of the Platinum King.
