“Aim 16 inches below the chin…that is their weakest spot.” Neva announced loudly.
The concrete floor trembled as metal feet hammered the ground like a chorus of drums.
They rushed forward in perfect synchronization, like an army of mindless drones.
BOOM!
The first robot slammed into Kristan’s shield only to be flung back like a rubber ball against a brick wall.
Another dozen robots repeated the same attack, their bodies slamming into Kristan’s shield.
A thunderous shockwave followed…it was like witnessing a dozen cars wrecking and pilling up on a busy freeway.
The melee combat robots equipped with energy swords swarmed forward.
While heavier armored plated robots lumbered into firing position.
Without a single word being spoken, the gun robots opened fire, their rotating gun barrels hissed like vipers as they sprayed a torrent of bullets.
The air thickened with smoke and the smell of concrete powder, scorched minerals, and gunpowder.
“These bullets sting a little.” Kristan complained as she took heavy fire.
Their gun barrels roared and spun with needle-like bursts that sliced through the thick cloud of smog and smoke.
The gun muzzles flashed with each burst of fire like lightening during a heavy storm.
Arthos and Neva’s swords screeched loudly as metal hammered against steel.
Sparks burst like stars as countless robots were cut to shreds by the Scavengers along with Murai and her assassins.
“Cutie, are you going to get serious?
Blow up those machines!
Now!” Murai screamed at Wain.
In response, his flames grew brighter and hotter as he poured more mana into each attack…no longer holding back.
KABOOM!
BOOM!
The air turned thick with smoke like maple syrup on waffles.
The decreased visibility impaired the robot’s ability to fight which caused them to unexpectedly turn on one another.
FWIP, FWIP FWIP, FWIP, FWIP FWIP
Kay, Percy, Gale, Owen, Robin, Murai and her assassins launched a barrage of arrows and throwing knives expertly pinpointing the machine’s weak spot 16 inches below the chin as Neva pointed out.
They focused their attacks on the gun bots in the rear position.
Unfortunately, the gun bots heavier design made them easy slow-moving targets.
“These guys are no fun…they are way too slow and predictable.” Robin grumbled as he expertly battered the gun-bots with a tempest of knives.
“Don’t drop your guard!
The bullets will not kill you but will bruise you good though.” Percy warned as he and his shadows dismantled the rear.
A commander robot, larger and heavier appeared.
It sprayed the room with a hailstorm of bullets without care for friend or foe.
Its gun barrels roared loudly as they silenced the remaining robots.
Percy lepted onto the commander robot’s back, driving his daggers deep into the seams of its neck.
The robot spasmed as its eyes flickered frantically.
It spun around in random circles in a last self-defense effort before collapsing in a heap of metal and smoke.
The room cleared and a heavy silence followed.
“Is it over?” Kristan asked as she stretched her shoulder shaking off the bullet nicks.
“No, this is where the fun begins.” Murai smirked as they approached the large metal door on the far end of the bunker.
The ground trembled and clicked as an elevator shafted opened, revealing a large metal object emerging from the ground.
A low, electric hum could be heard from distant engines…it was the sound of a steel titan waking from a long slumber.
“What is that?” Kay asked surprised to see a metal beast sleek and agile as a cougar but larger and heavier than an elephant.
“That’s a…that’s…it’s a War-Frame!” Neva and Wain said synchronized in awe.
War-Frames were the latest super-weapon on earth.
Built with adaptive armor plating that hardens against kinetic impacts and softens and disperses energy blasts, it can withstand heavy fire with ease. This story is hosted at g.com.
Its state-of-the-art hybrid hover-track system gives it incredible agility and mobility allowing it to climb trees, rubble, trenches, and broken terrain like a metal ballerina.
Armed with mounted rotating turrets and a magnetically accelerated rail system, the War-Frame was capable of firing hellfire rounds that punch through fortress walls and plasma sheathed shells that melt armor on impact.
“That’s one name…they are also known as predators.
They are a walking fortress of destruction and death…the ultimate metal predator.” Murai said in amazement and terror.
Thus revealing the real reason she requested support from Arthos and his group.
KABOOM!
It was like being struck by lightning at close range.
The very air bled with a yellow-gold shimmer…as if the air itself was wounded by the savage surprise attack.
In one swift and unexpected opening move, the War-Frame’s plasma cannon fired a deathblow that tore a hole through the reinforced concrete wall like wax paper.
“AAGGH!””
Two of Murai’s assassins were in the line of fire and yelled in pain.
One had his entire upper body blown off, the other had his entire right side carved off in a perfect circular shape.
Before Hector could react with healing magic, the two lifeless bodies crumpled.
No blood was shed…the plasma cannon cauterized the wound on impact like a hot-iron steak.
“Shit!” Murai cried out as she watched her men die in horror.
The War-Frame roared to life, its engines growled like a hungry beast, starving for a kill.
A strong breeze kicked up a plume of dust as the hover-pads engaged and lifted the massive tank just enough to glide over the broken slabs of reinforced concrete.
It fired a barrage of missiles and hellfire rounds at the moving targets.
Arthos roared, “Attack!”
An avalanche of steel and arcane exploded in a flurry of arrows, knives, and fireballs.
Bullets and missiles collided in a mesh of tangled metal against the arrows and knives.
